My sir this song by both the late great Rick James and Teena Marie is definitely one of the greatest duets in music history! Pleeease react to more Teena Marie and Rick James. Teena is a vocal beast I’m sure you’ll see ❤!!
when this song came out, the public did not see Tina until after it blew up on the charts, and many people were shocked, including me, to learn Tina was white ...
I'm glad you liked it, but I didn't appreciate the narrative that you think he did "bad things" in the relationship. The word "abuse", let's face it, that's the word you're talking about, is referring to abusing the relationship itself. Use and abuse is a common saying when someone is manipulating the other person in the relationship. Never in the years and decades I have listened to this song that I even thought to go that route. This is a love song. R&B music. We don't talk about stuff like that.
Artist, R&B back then were not necessarily like MCs are today. They didn't sing about their lives. They sang about topics, concepts, and ideas (without necessarily being personal). Rick James wrote this song, and when it was released, Rick was the #1 artist on Motown's label. Teena was relatively new. Rick was her producer and romantic interest for a time. Teena (and the rest of the then known universe) knew Rick was a wild boy and not the settling down type, so their relationship, both business and personal, didn't last.
There’s no way you never heard this song playing in black households, brother 🙄🤣
I find it hard to believe that you have never heard of Rick James and Tina Marie. Your parents failed you by not putting you up on game! You've never been to a Bar B Que or cookout where Rick James was being places??
Rick James is so underrated as a vocalist, musician, and producer. He was a multi-faceted individual with a tumultuous life. Tina Marie was a powerhouse vocalist in her own right. They did have a bit of a toxic romantic relationship for a while but always spoke fondly of each others' talent. 💖💖
The term "Use and Abuse" didn't refer to physical violence back in the 80s. It meant to take advantage of another person. In this case, he was expressing that he was a player that didn't appreciate women--- use them and move on (abuse them).
Teena Marie was my favorite R&B singer from the 1980's bar none - and that is say alot.
Where has he been living😂…neve heard this song or TEENA??? This reaction you know what I’m just going to ….🤫but I love when our artists shock the heck out of a person.
Use and Abuse them is a reference to taking advantage of them not necessarily putting hands on them. Like take relationships for granted etc.
Lady T & Rick both RIP🙏🏿❤
Teena Marie was actually heavily sick with the flu when she sang this. Rick was going to use a different singer because she was ill, but she came in and sang this in one take before going to the hospital. Teena Marie known as "The Ivory Queen of Soul"...
Wish we still had great music like this being made today 😢
This is one of the few songs that will stand the test of time. May they both rest in peace.
One of the greatest slow dance songs ever! along with Earth Wind and Fire‘s Reasons.
Love Rick and Teena so much !!!!!!
this is a classic; i grew up on this one ...
This was such a huge hit. A pure Soul Classic!
Music that made you feel something!!! Absolutely Spectacular!!!
