  • If you missed my first videos about Regalia Paper, they're here:
    • New REGALIA Paper from... (Regalia & Recorder)
    • Serious Problems with ... (Bad Regalia)
    Endless Stationery sent me some new Regalia paper to test (I believe) along with an Endless Explorer leather notebook cover (with Large Storyboard) and two different Endless Companion Pen Pouches: two pen and a five pen models.
    This is honestly too much stuff for one video, but I'm going to be traveling during September, and I don't want to leave it until I get back.
    Curious about the Lotus Everest pen in this video? Here's the review:

    Thanks for doing a follow up on this. The performance of regalia seems really good.

      Hey Roxie, thanks! I'm hoping that I can find some interesting and unusual inks in Eastern Europe, but I expect to be doing more writing than shopping on this trip. But I've still got a few weeks before I leave, so with any luck, I'll get another video or two out.

    Thanks for the update! I’ve used the recorder notebook and the Creative Block notepads from Endless, and so far I haven’t had any issues. It seems like it may have only been select batches of the Storyboard that had problems. Overall, the performance of Regalia paper is so good I can get past the occasional bleed through/freckles. I’mamazed by how crisp and bright almost every ink looks on Regalia Paper.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  Před 11 měsíci +3

      Yes, I've been really impressed with Regalia paper, overall. If I could live with yellow/ivory paper, then Midori MD paper is actually my favorite, but I really want a true white (because I've always been more interested in inks than pens, if it isn't obvious). Seems like the bad batch of Regalia was fairly limited, luckily. Hope they keep it up! And make A5 softcovers.

    Thank you for the follow-up! As a daily user of the Endless Explorer (for what it's worth, for about a year over multiple large storyboards, with no freckling) the issues you found in the original review had me concerned! I'm glad to see it was resolved. I like Regalia even better than TR for the way it displays shading inks!

    Ty for the follow up video! It is very educational.
    It would be wonderful to actually see a follow up with writing tests on the paper(s) as swatching of inks is not a common everyday activity. The real question is if the freckles impact writing, and does writing with different nib sizes actually stacks up to Japanese paper.
    For instance cosmo air snow is actually not ever pleasant when using fine or extra fine nibs, but great with stub or bold or oblique old nibs. Cosmo Air Light is good for all medium/fine nibs and feels as elegant as the old Tomoe River with all sorts of inks and pens.
    My request for a future video about writing comparisons is because it would help in making a decision to buy or not to buy based on writing as the only activity. As always such high quality, well produced video makes watching them a joy and being a subscriber a privilege.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the suggestions! :-) If you haven't already seen it, I did writing samples on the faulty Regalia paper in my video about the Endless Observer ( czcams.com/video/FxH8oWAovRo/video.html ) and I don't expect any additional samples of the same batch of paper to behave differently, so I didn't re-run the tests... these were primarily to determine whether the paper in questions fell into the "faulty" category or not. I never use EF nibs, so I would leave that testing up to someone else... I'm not familiar enough with them... but I did a bit of writing with at least one fine nib... I'm not sure which of the Regalia videos it was, at this point.

  • @UrbanHafner
    @UrbanHafner Před 11 měsíci +4

    I do have a Creative block with the bad paper. It holds up to moderate amounts of ink just fine, but when you overdo it it starts to bleed and feather pretty badly. But I saw your video before buying it and it was the cheapest option. So, at least I've tried the paper now and I might give it a try with a "real" notebook later on.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  Před 11 měsíci

      In my Endless Observer with bad paper, even when I was just writing with a broad nib, if I ran across any of the spots that would have freckled in a swatch, I'd get bleed through and feathering, so it seems that there might be some variation in the "bad" papers, with some worse than others. For the most part, if it didn't feather under normal writing conditions, I'd probably consider the paper to be good enough 🙂

  • @vwood2
    @vwood2 Před 4 měsíci

    Thanks. Like you, showing the true colour of the ink is very important to me. I’ve been using both versions of the Endless Recorder - TR & regalia papers with dot grids. They both perform beautifully. I have a slight preference for the regalia paper, which is a bit brighter, so my blue inks look even more vibrant on the page. But both papers showcase the ink well. I really hate how Leuchtturm and other ivory / yellow paper dulls & sometimes distorts ink colours.

  • @TymberJ
    @TymberJ Před 11 měsíci +1

    I have an older Endless Recorder I'm still using that had some of the same issues (freckling, super sensitive to hand oils), but not as bad as the one in your previous review. I wonder if whatever equipment problem they had was getting worse gradually?
    Owning up to having had a problem and committing to fix it goes a long way in my book. The build quality of both Recorder notebooks I've used has been great, with one holding up wonderfully to a daily beating in a backpack for a year -- they don't seem to intentionally cut corners.

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  Před 11 měsíci

      Agreed. Introducing a new type of paper is a pretty massive undertaking, so it doesn't surprise me that they have had a bad batch or two along the way as they're getting everything figured out. I've always been impressed with their products, so I hope that they're really staying on top of their issues with the paper.

    Thanks for this review. I believe I have a couple of storyboard notebooks both A5 and A6 which are not performing well with some inks - Diamine Celadon Cat - feathers and heavy bleed, R.O. Fire and Ice no feather but bleeds and R.K. Alt Grungroen bleeds and feathers. I may try another notebook but reluctant to buy more if the bad batch is still out there. Great analysis and thank you.

      I just noticed the same thing recently. Very cool. They also have the A5 size of the Storyboard, which is even better news... but they're charging double the price of a normal "large" Storyboard, which is not so nice. Hopefully they expand availability (and also get "ruled" and "plain" and get the price more in line with the others.

    Thank you for sharing this helpful review, I've been considering the endless companion wth the five pen slot. I know it is designed for their storyboard pocket notebook (standard size pocket notebook) but do you think it would fit an A6 notebook (pocket plus)?

    • @thewetpen
      @thewetpen  Před 10 měsíci

      I just took a look at the dimension of the Companion with the aid of a ruler, and it looks to me as though an A6 should fit pretty well. The height is no problem, but the width is tighter... but I think there's about 110mm of space and you only need 105mm.

    I am so reluctant to get one of the Recorders... Haha. I don't mind ghosting, but I'd hate if it bleeds through. I'm wondering how it works with regular writing. I just use a medium TWSBI mostly with Noodler's Red-Black.
