      @@Elizabeth-ve6ug Hey there, thanks to this comment I checked out the acetone video too which was helpful, so thank you! Looks like his video with the acetone is to make the silicone easier to pour over something you need to mould, and the above with the corn starch is to make a mould where things are pressed into it instead! It will depend on what you're doing which one will be better for you. Need a full 3d shape? Acetone and pour the mould. Want one side flat? Corn starch and press the object in.

  • @CarnivoreKrak
    @CarnivoreKrak Před rokem +14

    Just use dish soap instead of cornstarch if u don’t have any on hand . Squeeze some dish soap into your water first, then put the silicone in - it eliminates the stickiness and as you are forming the mold ball in your hand you just keep forming the ball dipping your hand in the water as you go and once the silicone isn’t sticky at all ur mold is done

  • @CJDe-kx8of
    @CJDe-kx8of Před 5 lety +43

    FYI: Working industrial insulation, we use a lot of silicon. The quick and easy way to remove silicon from surfaces and hands is WD-40.
    Spray with WD-40, wipe off then, wash with soap and water.

    • @MaryAnnNytowl
      @MaryAnnNytowl Před 5 lety +2

      Where I worked, and used a lot of silicone, we just used laquer thinner to wash it off with, LOL! We didn't want any WD-40 wafting along in the breeze, as awful things happen when you paint a surface that's gotten WD-40 on it. You've never seen the extreme level of fish-eye that stuff creates!

    • @CJDe-kx8of
      @CJDe-kx8of Před 5 lety +4

      Mary Ann Bittle ... Oh, yes I have!👁
      It's nothing for us to go through a case of silicon a day.
      Spraying a small amount of WD-40 to rub on one's hand to quickly breakdown, (without gumminess), silicon and wash away with soap and water takes place in sink, not in a painting work area, (enclosed?), where you indicate you use the thinner.
      Even advertised as orderless, thinners are the more hazardous choice and are easily spilled.
      But, each to his/her own.🙂

    • @CJDe-kx8of
      @CJDe-kx8of Před 3 lety +2

      @@MaryAnnNytowl ...
      Laq. Thinner, besides being caustic/flammable, wouldn’t cut the industrial silicon we used; would cause it to gum up and smear and made a sticky mess that wouldn’t wash nor wipe off.
      We had only one authorized safety cleanup station in a huge sq. ft.-entirely open/no walls (except along one wall for bathrooms & office) floor plan-3 stories high semi-open bldg housing the warehouse/materials storage, tool cage, open area welding shop & our insulation-fabrication-heat-trace shop area.
      Insulating materials aren’t the pink house stuff.
      It is an electrical power generation plant using coal mined/processed in the area.
      TIP:
      Last Fall, using hi-temp silicon on my wood stove and out of WD-40, I tried a few drops of pure Tea Tree Oil I keep on hand for various uses.
      Walmart carries it.
      It instantly dissolved the silicon on my hands, added soap and washed clean.

Walk away and it will set in a few hours. Over time it will become more firm. Remove from container and remove pieces. Done. No corn starch needed... the silicone will set on its on and you have time to work with it. I make 3 molds this way.

No sticky stuff, no cornstarch! If your bent on colors, you could add the food coloring to the water.🤗

      @@katunyingmushroom4503 I think the silicone molds will lose the pungent smell after a while.

    I found a silicone tube at Walmart that didn't stink like strong @ss vinegar and with your recipe it works great.

    Just keep in mind, shiny mould surface = shiny resin casting. Cornstarch moulds are a dull surface, so your resin casts will be dull as well. Great video, thanks so much.

      Once you pour or seal with another coat of resin it shines right up. :)
