    Hi, great video. The only cost that's really concerning is the student loan payment. It's every single month, it's expensive, and it lasts for a very long time by most people's standard. I graduated pharmacy school when the BS was an option so fortunately no student loans. Been practicing for over 25 years. Real estate was also very affordable but now, times are very different. Its a whole differennt ball park nowadays.

      yes, the student loans is a very big con to the profession now. Almost every health profession has significant tuition costs these days. I am jealous you had no student loans - the dream!

    Hey! Great video, thank you for sharing. Any residency interview tips?

      Compile all your pharmacy experiences and interventions into an excel and break it down into the STAR method. Also, be careful of what clinical topic you bring up in your answers during your interview because they will ask follow-up questions about it to make sure you actually know what you’re talking about!

      @SarahPharmD  Před 8 měsíci

      I did receive my pharmacy tech license when I was in undergrad! Back then, all I had to do was study and pass the exam to get my license. I am not sure if they changed the requirements or not. If it’s still the same, then I would just recommend to self study!

    I know that this might be a personal question, but did you ever feel like you were missing out on time or life when you were pursuing your Pharm D?

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Definitely! It’s very normal to feel that. I was jealous of my friends who were already working and were already established in their career. Interestingly, I found out from one of my non pharmacy friends that she was jealous of me - because I essentially got to experience college part 2 during pharmacy school. I got to make a lot of friends and join a lot of organizations during the time. So there’s pros and cons for sure to pursing a pharmD

    Hiii, how and when did you know you wanted to persue a pharmacy career?? Im interested in it a bit but I don't know if its right for me yet.

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 8 měsíci

      I was interested in a career in healthcare but i couldn’t decide which profession. So during college, I made sure to get as much experience as possible as a volunteer at a hospital and shadowed nurses, pharmacists, and doctors to get an idea of what it’s like. Once I narrowed down on pharmacy, I got my pharmacy technician license to get work experience to confirm that it’s actually for me!

    Did you take out private student loans after federal loans cover everything up to cost of attendance? I am confused if I can take out more loans than cost of attendance set by school. Thank you

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I took out federal Grad plus loans, which didn’t seem to have a cap back when I was in pharmacy school!

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 6 měsíci +1

      But I did also have a private student loan that my pharmacy school gave me. It was a lower interest rate so that is why I took it, but I did not realize at the time that it would be ineligible for PSLF since it’s not federal

    With this economy, I didn’t trust the loan forgiveness plans. I paid mine off 100%

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 8 měsíci

      Totally understandable! There’s always a risk that they would end the program. I would pay it all if I could, but PSLF is more feasible for me and my life goals :)

    by federal hospital do you mean the VA?

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes I work at a VA hospital!

    • @hydr_tion
      @hydr_tion Před 8 měsíci

      @@SarahPharmD thank you so much for your response! I’m a 3rd year student thinking about residency w/ the VA. Do you recommend the government sector or staying in public healthcare system? I’m not really aware of the pros and cons except for practice agreements in the VA. Also is it easy to transfer between states? Say you left the VA in NY and wanted to go to Ohio, is it readily easy to get a new position?

    • @SarahPharmD
      @SarahPharmD  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@hydr_tion since I work at the VA, I am definitely biased towards working there! What’s great about working at the VA is that there are hundreds of VAs throughout the nation so once you’re in the VA system, it’s a lot easier to transfer to another VA. VAs prefer to hire people within the VA system first before they extend their search to the public. VA is also a federal hospital so you get a lot of federal holidays off and you get a lot of good retirement benefits.
