tldr - It's dumb, but within reason. And forewarning: most of what a know about law I learned in a single class about seven years ago, and was a baby class for stupid BBA students that will probably never look at a real law course. So I could be super off.
Anyway, it 100% is ridiculous, but to be fair, companies kinda have to do _something_ to at least said they did it. That way they can keep a hold on their copyright instead of it at least partially losing it. Spam (the company) could for example sue another company that sold food called Spam, but they can't do anything about non-capitalized spam being associated with junk, because that's how society sees it. Maybe if it was decades ago and they went after it as seen as junk mail (literal, physical mail, by email times it was probably too late) they could have nipped it in the bud, but by the time "spam" meant "garbage", they would have lost that chance. There are better examples, but I can't think of them right now. It's why big companies like Disney and Nintendo send copyright SWAT teams out for the littlest things. Once Mickey becomes more seen as a cute mouse than a Disney character, they'll at least lose some partial grasp on the copyright. And even for the music, the companies probably wouldn't be able to get anything if it went to court, because UV isn't a music channel illegally playing the songs. The music's playing as a video game channel, and it won't hurt them for the songs to be played. But that of course would mean needing to go to court over a few pennies, which would be pointless. It's also why channels that review TV and movies usually keep remove the sound and mirror the video. They can 100% legally use film clips, because they're reviewing it and not playing it to get money directly from it, but it will still get hit by the CZcams algorithm and they'll lose most of their view money in the few days it takes before a human can look at it and say it's fine.
So yes, ridiculous, and yes pointless. But also yes, not ridiculous or potless to a tiny, _tiny_ margin. And man, that was a lot longer than I was expecting to go, and I apparently remembered a lot more from that course than I thought I did. XD
