      I bet Bradshaw wouldn't do it. He never cared much for catering to his fans. I've been to the Yamaha shops where the team would appear on the days before a big MX national or Supercross, and Bradshaw would sit over in a corner, behind a bunch of boxes or motorcycles where it was impossible to approach him, chatting with his girlfriend. He couldn't be bothered to talk with people. Meanwhile, Doug Henry, Kevin Windham, McCarty, et al would be having a good time with the fans, participating in trivia contests, raffles, etc.
      I mean, some people are like that, it's just their personality. Whereas, guys like Rick Johnson clearly love the attention and getting to relive their glory days. It doesn't take anything away from Bradshaw's riding ability. But I would wager that he would decline to be on the Whiskey Throttle show. Couldn't be bothered.

Becoming famous at 16 and before to be honest could effect someone for sure being around fans while growing up. Or just like you said, it's their nature and not that open to be around lots of people.

    When I was a little kid it was Brad Lackey - when I became a teenager it was RJ. No disrespect intended to the others but RJ was the literal man of his era. Everyone was afraid of him, your girl wanted him, your parents liked him. I never had the cool or the style and then when he started talking about his relationship with GOD before it was cool and the world was like "wtf dude keep that private" I admired his convictions and courage even more. I met RJ and his bride last year at the MXoN and it was the best moment of the weekend - they were beyond gracious and cool.

    I remember reading about the 1982 250cc National Championship in the September '82 issue of Cycle magazine. Rick lost to Donnie by 3 points. 300 to 297. Imagine if he had decided to stay in third in the first moto. He would have only needed a seventh or an eighth place finish in the second moto. A support rider winning a national championship. How cool would that have been. Not to mention, the YZ250J was universally considered to be the worst 250cc motocross bike that year against the Honda RC250 which was head and shoulders above all the other works bikes of the day.

    It really amazes me listening to RJ. I watched and analyzed Moto for so many years. Hes talks about the different style of each generation, if you listen really closely, as he talk through each generation you can hear how each main guy changed the sport, but the line choices, cornering, where you end up if you go here,here, and here. Supercross/Motocross never changed, it was the guys that changed the way they got from that point "A" corner to point "B" Corner. That's why you see most trainers today have you do one more month or two more months and then they start breaking the track down in sections to show you how to get from that point A to point B Corner faster. It's absolutely awesome to listen to what he's saying in reading into each Generations mindset of the racing. Awesome guys great show

    One off weekend 1987 I was flagging the downhill at Carlsbad ( to pay for my race) off weekend meaning it wasn't a national or during ama season. Just a regular weekend when anyone shows up to race.
    So RJ shows up and then the golden boy rolls into the pits. These guys are the 2 fastest by far in the pro class they even lapped local pro jungle Jim Chamberlain ( who hauled ass out there). Anyway the track had been sprayed and plowed that morning so on the side of the downhill there was these big chunks of dirt that were created when they plowed the track.
    So once RJ n Broc get going they are dueling and going faster n faster , it's becoming a race for ego and bragging rights. Broc would get ahead n RJ would lead, but at one point going up the uphill Broc was leading and coming down the downhill RJ takes the inside line, off to side of the track, going thru and over those huge chunks of hard dirt he must have been going 75mph, forks bouncing back n forth in a blur, and he gets towards the bottom he had passed broc and took the outside of the left turn then cut in and the pass was complete. Unequivocally the most insane thing I've ever seen on a mx track. No one beats RJ at that track ever in history he'd smoke anyone on a 250 or 500.

  • @gilly3380
    @gilly3380 Před 5 lety

    I like the concept of this series. I hope that the production improves. There's zero camera work going on. Just a static tripod is a sad loss of opportunity.
    Multiple cameras (even just one more) would AT LEAST double the production value, and some close-ups would double up on that! Right now it's pretty amateur, and these guys (as well as the fans) deserve better. I'm sure pretty much every person involved has a camera, and volunteers could be possible. Even just closer framing would make this more viewable. Right now, it's pretty much a radio show. I understand sponsorship fulfillment, but the logos could be much, MUCH, smaller, and just seen from closer up, so we can see the faces of the panel (in this age, its safe to assume that MOST of the views will be/are made by cell phone, as opposed to a big screen).
    I'm also surprised that, for a guy with quite a few years of broadcasting background, GL blows his mic out and talks over people a bit much (at least on the Emig interview). A sound guy wouldn't hurt.
    Pingree is a natural. Great idea. Needs some professional work.
