@@EarthSurferUSA I like your point about putting DeCister in charge. My reference to Roger as being so great was he did it back on those old bikes and he’s been innovating etc ever since. I truly believe Stewart had potential to truly be the greatest of all time when it comes to raw talent on the bike unfortunately he was his own worst enemy.
Truly. The GREATEST ever! As a rider and with his overall influence on the sport, no single person has had as much of an impact. No one person is as synonymous with success in the sport. All those world championships he won himself…. Plus the many championships he was a part of. Motorcycle development, the gear and equipment, style…. He has had an influence on everything. When he was racing, he was a Euro Rock Star. Always the model of a professional. He defined what it was to be a professional. And on top of all that he is universally known as a really genuine, honest, good person.
I am 53: in Canada in the 70's we had a gp. I saw Roger .Brad Lackey. Heikki Micholas and the nicest guy Japanese Kinoshita. Back then you could walk the pits and get close. Lackey was on Honda and blew his forks every moto.I remember seeing maico with extended forks. Fox shocks. Great memories.
Rodger Decoster, thank you so much for what you've done for our sport. As a consumer on the outside looking in you have done some amazing amazing things. What you have done with each manufacturer absolutely blows my mind.
Thanks for doing this interview with Roger, he's such a humble, wise, knowledgeable guy. Would've been nice to hear even more about his racing career, but the main points were covered. Looking forward to more of these shows now.
Roger Decoster the definition of motocross. I met RD back in the 90s in Seatlle at a local moto shop. I BS with him a little, very nice guy. I was very nervous talking to my moto hero.
Awesome interview, great to hear about his life and how he got started. RD is the kind of guy you could just sit and listen to for hours, so many great stories, so much knowledge and experience. His influence in the sport is 2nd to none. Good job guys!
A true ambassador for the sport. I was that little kid who got sick in Ettelbruck when the tension between Willy Bauer and Roger got too much. Roger eventually was World Champion that day and suddenly I felt much better. I was that little kid crying when I read about the Balen accident in the paper. So many memories...if only I could find the pictures of that kid together with Roger again. Unfortunately much more appreciated in the USA than Belgium...what a pitty.
