That's a Carter siren. They sound the same as a FS XT22 but lower pitched due to the current frequency being 60 Hz in North America, Japan and some other parts of the world, and 50 Hz in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, most of South America etc...
You are correct. It would be either made in the UK or locally (there's a wellington-based company that makes new ones and spare parts, as the fire service requires that all fire sirens be the same).

It's only used to callout the fire brigade....most NZ Fire stations have them.
I doubt there are any Sterling sirens in New Zealand. It is probably a Grifco from Australia.

That's a Carter siren. Sterlings usually sound like Sentry sirens.
