  • Nearly seven billion dollars worth of military equipment has been left behind in Afghanistan. This American military equipment has just been left behind to be used by the Taliban. Weapons are in the hands of the same enemy that America tried to drive out for two decades.

Just because $7 billion of weaponary was left in Afghanistan does not give The United States the right to seize $7.7 billion in funds from The Government of Afghanistan. The United States needs to release the money to Afghanistan.

The Trump administration and the Taliban signed the United States-Taliban deal in Doha, Qatar, which stipulated fighting restrictions for both the US and the Taliban, and in return for the Taliban's counter-terrorism commitments, provided for the withdrawal of all NATO forces from Afghanistan by May 1, 2021. Following the deal, the US dramatically reduced the number of air attacks on the Taliban at the detriment of the ANSF fighting the Taliban insurgency. Trump did not include the Afghan Govt in that negotiation.

@Chitra Venkataramanan, noting the recent Taliban or Pashtun attacks inside of Pakistan, that could be part of what the Americans had in mind. You are right that it seems too deliberate even for the Americans. According to some it was the Americans who created the Taliban in the first place via the mujahadeen. Perhaps they had some agreement to leave many workable weapons to help destablize Pakistan and perhaps even drag communist China into some kind of military quagmire eventually.
