She did them both - she definitely sings awesome opera and she was in the Olympics representing South Africa where her mother was born and where she lives now.

Well, this is ten years later now. She has been in college for some time so has not been involved so much in music but I am just waiting for her to get back involved and show how her talent has progressed. What I have heard from her lately has been equally amazing.
There are veterans groups who actually use her music for therapy. Believe it. Yup, a God-given talent. She had it all the time.
Thank you for a great reaction. She is fantastic. She sings in at least 7 different languages and speak 3 at the age of 17. She was also in the top of South Africa young long distans runner. I'm from Sweden and she sings Gabriellas song in nearly perfect Swedish.

Bravo, starting from the beginning. I've watched her grow up performance by performance. Going performance by performance has been very exciting. I've listened to her performances over and over, and still am moved by each one. At this age she had it in her mind to build playgrounds for kids which led to a foundation 7 months later to do just that. Now over 20 playgrounds built. She is just a gift to us.

She got the ticket as shown, but translation shown to the finals was not. She went to the semi-finals, with Ave Maria, and the finals with Nessun Dorma. She won with over 50% of the votes. I love the look toward the beginning with one of the other contestant. The look as though she knew it was over for her. The thing she does different then other kids singing these songs is she is able to through the emotions of the song as we'll as a beautiful voice. Love your reaction

Her family were musical. Father played the church organ, mother and brother both picked up the violin, so she was feeling a bit left out, and took to the singing. She was exposed to classical music from an early age, but she had a natural talent, and applied herself to developing it. There are a few clips of her singing before HGT show, but to be honest, they are a bit rough. It was her that the light really shone out.
In the Semi-finals, she offered an Ave Maria. (Not the one you have already reviewed) Then in the finals she delivered a Nessun Dorma. She was asked to do it as an encore too, which she did, impeccably.

If you stay with Amira you will have an exciting journey. Andre Rieu invited her to have a master class with him and then to appear on stage with his orchestra (age 10). She sang the full version of O Mio Babbino Caro before around 10,000 people and received a standing ovation. She is now 18 and sings arias, classic crossover, musicals, hymns, etc. For fun she also sang Little Drummer Boy. Fluent in English and Afrikaans, she has sung in around 11 languages.

Great sincere reaction once again D. To follow in order, the next would be the semi final singing Ave Maria & then the final singing Nessun Dorma. Then, we have an absolute feast of performances to keep you busy , very busy.
It’s hard to imagine this so very young person had the foresight to start up a foundation to supply schools in South Africa with playground equipment because she witnessed them playing in dirt. To date, I believe it’s either 16 or 18 schools that have playground equipment donated & maintained by Amira’s foundation which is funded directly by Amira plus donations. She is just an incredible human being. ( or maybe she is an Angel )

Apparently, Chantal was staring at her because she was worried that Amira was miming - and terrified that she wasn't. And the Olympic athlete reference is not as odd as it seems - she was the Dutch cross-country running champion for her age group.
Her long distance running certainly gives her that amazing breath control.

Great reaction... It so brings me back every time to the night I accidentally watched this video when I was looking up a group late one night on CZcams that had a song in a film I'd just watched... Amira's video of her audition came up at top of the CZcams list and I really only hit it because she looked different to the usual often made up kids that go in for these auditions which I seldom watch anyway. You already knew about her before watching this.... But I knew nothing about her ...and wasn't expecting much. To say I was stunned when she opened her mouth and started singing is the understatement of the century! Like you! Need I say more. That was spring of 2015 and I was up hours after watching her semi final and final performances plus every video of her since then til that night. Next morning I was ordering her CD!

I think the best chronological viewing of Amira is to start with this HGT when she was 9.
