What's even more amazing is she was recovering from the flu. They weren't even sure she would be able to perform. If you thought this was incredible, you need to watch her third appearance which was even better than this performance.

Amira Willighagen speaks both Dutch and Afrikaans because she was born to a Dutch father and a South African mother whose mother tongue is Afrikaans. She grew up surrounded by classical music.
She has been my favorite for years ever since I fist heard her on CZcams. Amazing
Actually, speaking of someone who was not impressed was two vocal coaches who were negative about her. I just had to castigate them both and set them straight. I just felt they were jaded after hearing so many children try to force themselves to sound like adults that they assumed Ammira was the same. But Amira is different. That is her God-given voice and she forces nothing.

I believe her family would translate the language to Dutch, her native language. This way she understood what she sang. This helps with the emotions. Most young singers can sing the song, but not know the meaning. Amira does know the meaning and it gets you in your heart. Ave Maria is the Holy Mary in the rosery. Amira is very religious. Amira is one special young lady. Great reaction.

Her grandmother on her mother's side was an opera singer, so guess it runs in the family. Very talented gene's, as her brother is a really good violin player too.

This performance of Ave Maria presented by Amira is unsurpassed. She is fluent in 7 languages including Italian and Afrikaans, she is extraordinary! Some of us think she is getting a heavenly download when she is singing. She closes her eyes and goes inward. I believe (because it happened to me as a child, she receives messages on how to sing the song. For me it was a different topic but I could see illustrations in front of me like drawings to state what I was seeing. It was a heavenly download. I saw botanical illustrations in front of me and described them exactly for the teachers. I was about 9 years old.) For Amira it is music and Opera. She understands the notes and is flawless. Years of practice to sing like that. Celestial downloads are the only explanation!

All right, some facts: Amira was born on March 27, 2004. Her brother, Fincent, is about 18 months older. This performance was in late December, 2013; she had a "Master class" with Andre Rieu on December 7, 2013. "Ave Maria" (this one is by Bach/ Gonoud). Lyrics are in Latin, BTW.
During the O Mio Babino Caro performance in Maastricht you can catch Andre Rieu beaming at her with pride at how much she learnt from that class, and of course he calls for the standing ovation from the orchestra at the end.
In relation to your comment at 5.25, according to my research, in 2007, on July 2, the (perhaps the greatest ) soprano of the U.S. BEVERLY SILLS passed away,...so AMIRA was 3 years old and her passion for opera/classic music captured her around then...is my opinion.

This is so good. I dont know what these kids have eaten when they were a baby. It is really special. When youngsters are performing such beautiful music, I feel there is hope for the future. Compare Amira Willighagen with Lucy Thomas from UK (who has the same age as Amira), Jadyn Rylee from Canada (a bit younger, but....wow). I mention just 3 of them, but there are a lot more talents out there.

Yeah, Fincent, her brother is two years older, he has had to stand back and watch his sister get all the attention, but he has been incredibly supportive of her, and they obviously have a very strong bond.
The week before this semifinal, amira was suffering from a chest infrction/ cold, and couldn't get the rehearsals in that were wanted. Those behind her, including the judges, we're having kittens, but Amira came through and delivered when it was needed. I think that's the reason Chantel said she was so nervous.
Just the final to review, then you can start picking off the milestones in her career.
Just want to add, Fincent helps Amira with translating all the aria lyrics, so she knows what she is singing about, helps with pronunciations, and her school homework. She has expressed her thanks to him in the acknowledgement section on some of her cds and dvds.
This is the best voice on the planet. I do not like her voice now as well but is normal growth. Some may feel opposite. All good. Until she is in mid twenties will continue changing some.

I honestly believe that she is reincarnated from another professional singer -- possibly Opera singer Maria Callas who died in 1977. This is far from normal in every dimension.

Before watching the final, I recommend that you make a video by Luciano Pavarotti (the greatest Opera's Tenor in history). So you will have a good reference point, what Amira is going to sing. Luciano was a legend to sing this. So you can see Amira's abilities !! Although the secret of his voice will remain mine. Yes, there are a bunch of young singers with fantastic voices (some would indeed say angelic) that will make their mark in the world of music. Angelica Hale also sang "Ave Maria" back in 2016 at the Tower of Talent fundraiser for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. I tried to find out, unsuccessfully, if she and her brother were twins. What I did find was a video of her and her brother doing a figure skating duet.
