Here’s what ABBA did. There were two genius songwriter/musicians. They employed powerful and beautiful vocalists to transmit the energy and created relatable content. Love, loss, yearning and happiness.
So they drew you in and then kicked you in the heart with just a wall of keys, guitars and stacked vocals for the choruses. Genius.

    nice to see you again
and thank you so much for this lovely reaction
    I love so much "S.O.S."
it was recording in August 1974, four mounths later ABBA win the Eurovision Song Contest in April 1974 with their fantastic "Waterloo"
but ABBA didn't realize it as a single until August 1975 (a year later)
"S.O.S." is just exactly in the middle between "Waterloo" (their first worldwide succes when ABBA win the famous Eurovision Song Contest) and "Dancing Queen" (their most worldwide hit and best selling song)
the same the blonde Agnetha Fältskog, who was the leads vocal here with her soprano voices, recording a beautiful cover from S.O.S. (in swedish) for her solo album a few mounts later in 1975 too
also the brunette Anni Frid (better called Frida) was mezzo soprano voice, you can hear She leads in #1 hits like
    Fernando
    Knowing me knowing you
    Super trouper
I suggest to the next video back to 1974, when begin the international famous to ABBA, when They win in the mytic England the most historic edition of Eurovision with their iconic piece of glam rock "Waterloo"
this is the link with the introduction and their live perfomance:

Thanks for the ABBA. I think this is the first song Agnetha brought that sad/hurt voice to in an ABBA song. Nobody can do it like she does. You can really hear the influence songs like "I'm Sorry" or "End Of The World" had on her as an artist. She must have been practicing that since childhood. It's easy to get caught up on just Agnetha's voice but Frida was just as good but with a different flavour. React to "Fernando", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Super Trouper", "Money Money Money" or my favourite Frida song "I Wonder". She was brilliant too. And like you said when they blended their voices (and they could do it at the drop of a hat) real magic happened. Guess while I'm at it. Benny's music and Bjorn's lyrics are always fantastic. It's like they knew how to write perfect songs to bring out the girl's strengths vocally. Just a great band.

In the UK at least, ABBA had 6 No.1 singles between January 1976 and March 1978; almost making them honorary Brits themselves. After that the pop music world began to change and that and their personal break-ups started to erode their commercial success - although their later hits, while different, are every bit the equal of songs like this.

They made history by being the First Group to do American Bandstand in 1975 from Sweden (& The Only One). Agnetha was already a Pop Star in Sweden between 1968-1972 with Eight Hit Records, she met and fell in love with Bjorn (The Clean Shaven One) who was in a Folk Group The Hootenany Singers where he met Benny (Whose Real Name Is Goran) who was in The Hep Stars and his then Girlfriend Anni-Fryd aka "Frida" is actually Norwegian, who was a successful Pop Star who did her Version of Baby Love By The Supremes in Swedish no less. They were heavily influenced by American R & B, Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Tamla Motown as it's known in Europe.

An specialy comment, in this case about the blonde singer Agnetha Fãltskog, who has impacted you a lot
One of the distinctive characteristics of ABBA is the central role of its two outstanding female vocalists (beautiful and attractive as well)
Anni Frid (Frida) Lyngstad has a mezzo soprano voice, is distinguished in the lower tones, She is the happiest on stage and is more ductile for dance and choreography
Agnetha Fãltskog, the youngest of the group, has a soprano voice, She stands out in the high tones and the power of Her voice, She is more ductile to act and interpret the lyrics, and Her face reflects more emotions
Agnetha sings, acts and performs in every song; and "S.O.S." is one of Her best performances as a leading voice. Her emotional tone on the verge of tears together with the dramatic introduction to the piano is one of the most praised characteristics in this fantastic song.
    There are a variety of songs that have Agnetha as Her leading and emotional voice. You already saw Her before in: The winner takes it all, Gimme gimme gimme and Take a chance on me, and now on “S.O.S.”;
    and I can suggest others:
    I've been waiting for you
    My love My life
    Thank you for the music
    Chiquitita
    Slepping through my fingers
(of the five there are videos for You to listen to Her and at the same time see Her in her gestures and expressions)
In my personal opinion, Agnetha Fãltskog is together with Karen Carpenters the female voice that I enjoy the most, one of the most extraordinary privileged and beautiful
also, the other singer, the brunette Anni Frid (better know as 'Frida') have the lead voice in a lot of fantastic songs, like:
    Fernando
    Knowing me knowing you
    Money money money
    One man one woman
    Super Trouper
That's what at these time I think and suggest to react to the next the ballad folk "Fernando" (1976), the second greatest worldwide hit to ABBA (only behind Dancing Queen), to see Frida as lead voice and see how versatily is ABBA in different style and genres of music

It couldn't be better explained, that's just what I think of ABBA, Agnetha is so beautiful, she has a great voice and plays great, for me she is the soul of ABBA.

ABBA were one of the VERY few Disco era bands/groups that wrote all their own songs. They were, in some ways, the Anti-Pop... Closer to Led Zeppelin than the Jackson Five.

As a hard rock fanatic I have to admit Abba is impressive. At 1 point they represented 1/4 of Sweden's gross national product. The blonde woman Is the 3rd richest recording artist in history and has a net worth of over 800 million dollars. To put that in perspective, she's 300 million dollars richer than Bruce Springsteen. Only Paul McCartney and Jimmy Buffett have made more money.

to fill the hole in your soul by abba I reccomend Hole in your soul by ABBA :p The studio version is great as you get the stronger background vocals of Benny and Bjorn and some interesting production halfway through as they take away some of the sound which makes what remains sound clearer, but the best of the best is the the live version at Wembley 1979! Watch the video of Does your mother know and hole in your soul live at wembley! The two in a row is better than watching just the one as they feed into each other. So much energy and good vibes! Also I reccomend Fernando and Chiquitita

@@symplytraciereacts So happy you saw this :) I reckon the live as you will feel entranced by their on stage performance - it's so much fun (make sure to do the Does your mother know and hole in your soul video though rather than just the one as above)! But pretty pretty please do check out the studio too ahaha. The production is pretty awesome.
The issue with ABBA is that they have so many great songs and music that you have to wait so long to get through it all and discuss everything great about it ahaha. My favourite way to go through everything now that I've heard it all is play all their albums starting with the last released (and then playing you owe me one, and I am the city, which were created after the final album of theirs) and then going backward in time through all 8 albums of theirs. Anyway too much info here lol. One or two great songs and performances at a time. And I'm so glad that you are enjoying, discovering and sharing :)

from studio recording isn't video official, it's so power and in 'rock metalic style'
you could see with these images of that link:

(it's opening TV special ABBA in Switzterland 1979)
live perfomance in London 1979 is more energetic, with all ABBA members enjoy on stage, it's the last song of the Concert (before the encore songs)
but I agree with a before comment that it's prefer to see first "Summer Night City" live in the same concert
