Great video. I only did one thing differant. I decided to go on vacation while the oil drained out. :)
It moves like molasses. 😆
Thanks for watching!
That's a happy engine right there. I've had a couple Kohler's and they were outstanding.
It’s been a great engine! It is almost half the horsepower (24 HP) of a WWII Willy. 😂
Granted I wouldn’t get very far off-road. Thanks for watching!
I love your work bench area
Thanks! 😊 I built it all! Custom DIY. I even have a rolling cart that goes under the bench. Thanks for watching!
Just did my ikon last week 2nd time doing oil, its just a battle.
I'm thinking there's an easier way but watching your video just confirms I'm not alone.
Someone sent me this… www.amazon.com/Drainzit-Oil-Changing-Aid-STAN1438/dp/B000PDN3HY
I will probably install one on the next oil change and see how it goes! Thanks for watching!
I have a bad case of spring fever! Great video!
Spring fever hit in November! 😂 And thanks for watching!

I need to try the engine oil trick. I normally use transmission fluid.
It shines like a new stainless steel pan sprayed with PAM in the sun! ☀️ Thanks for watching!

Just did mine last week. That oil drains so slow. I’m going to let mine run for 15 minutes or so before I change the oil next time. Let it warm up some
I need to next time. I was five years older when it finished. 😂 Thanks for watching!
I’ll be doing mine in the next week or so 🤙🏻
Love it! I want to be ready to go when it’s time. I still have do my blades. I figure I’ll sharpen both sets when I do. If you want a Suburbia Dad logo sticker, email me. The email address is in the video description. Thanks for watching!
hells yea bud..i knew something was coming when i saw the donuts on IG last night! 😂
😂 You have to keep your skills sharp for game time! Thanks for watching!
What’s the spark plug gap?
I suppose it would depend on the engine you have. It should be in the manual for the Kohler and Kawasaki. Hope that helps! I’m sure by now you found it. Thanks for watching!
Nice vid. I need to do mines but I think I’m going to wait just a little bit longer because it’s in my shed and it’s still chilly here in Indy
I hear you! One nice day and then 3 or 4 not so nice. We are almost there! I need to go sharpen blades, grease, and level / pitch the deck. I think I’ll be ready to go then. Thanks for watching! You’re an OG of the channel.
@@theSuburbiaDad no problem bro love the vids
Great job, excellent video, 👏 👍 I'd like to know how much oil goes in the engine and what type of oil, thanks
The oil quantity depends on the engine you have. My Kohler is 2 quarts (page 8 of manual below). In my experience, you’ll never get it empty - so it won’t take two quarts.
The type of oil depends on the temperature you’ll run the engine. Your manual for the engine will give you the temperature ranges. For the Kohler, I’m running 10w30 full synthetic. See page 6 of the manual below…

Thanks for watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad I have the 52 inches kawasaki engine, I'm pretty sure both are similar, your response answed all my questions. Thanks a lot of the quick response 👍
No problem! Thanks for checking out what I’m up too. Enjoy the mow!
I need a new drain plug, so do I just go to lowes don't know the size I need? I lost my old one.
I would reach out to Ariens customer service. They can probably direct you to the correct part number. You might be able to just pick it up on Amazon. I don’t know if Lowes will carry it in stock; but maybe. Thanks for watching! Let me know what you find out.
Does Ariens still produce the Ikon XD.
Yep! They’ve upgraded the style, but you can still get one!
Kawasaki motor now.
Everyone I've spoken to says the Kohler 7000 which is the one you have here. I love mine also.
Kohler did great! Solid motor. American made too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You seem happy with your mower. Did you buy from a big box store or a dealer? I keep hearing horror stories about big box store versions, but they all look the same to me.
I got mine a Lowe’s. I took time to go over it when I got it to make sure it was all good. I’ve had no issues at all. I haven’t even changed a belt yet. In two seasons, I’ve put about 150 hours on it. I would buy again without hesitation. Engine is still strong and it cuts great! I need to do a review. I cut about an acre. Thanks for watching and commenting! Hit me up with more questions if you have them.
How many quarts of oil does it take?
The Kohler 7000 series engine takes 2 quarts. I’m not sure about the Kawasaki. Thanks for watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad thanks. I have Koehler, same mower as you. Bought a “grass flap” pedal initiated discharge shoot too.
Send me a link to the discharge flap.
@@davidrampone This guy answered your question about the oil and you couldn't be bothered to send him the link for the grass flap? You suck!
Did you install a bagger?
I didn’t get the bagger Ariens makes. With the amount of leaves I have in the fall, I needed something with large capacity. So, I went for the Cyclone Rake. It’s awesome!
Here is my video using it…
