There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.
Hi Tom; Good video and nice shop. Couple of things on The Kawasaki motors. When checking oil do not screw the dipstick in all the way to check level. Many folks including myself have done this. It says right on the dipstick do not screw in all the way. If you do screw it in all the way and top off to that line on the stick than the oil will be too high. Second ,try to sell your customers on the made by Kawasaki screw in rubber drain hose. Its cheap and doesn't make a mess like that Yellow plastic drain that' s on there stock. There is a cast tray under the Oil filter so my mod was to take a cereal box and form a funnel out of that so it will stop oil dripping on the drive belt and pulley on that side. Also ,when changing oil use the rubber drain hose. As you know all the dirty oil is on the lowest point in that crankcase which won t be removed if using the suction method. Apply a small amount of pressure on the oil fill pipe with your air hose. That will force out the remaining oil and debris as well. Again 1or 2 psi is more than enough. Do not over do it! You will pocket a few bucks in labor and your customers will like the fact that you really care about their machine not to mention the next time it comes in for service it;'s a drop oil and go scenario. Also I noticed you had some 2x4 material to use as chocks. If that strap lets go those rear tires will go right over those 2x4's like Greased Lightning . Those front wheels will go right over you and no I dont trust the Parking brake in that scenario. That zero turn weighs 682lbs per spec , and maybe more with topped off fuel. Instead Invest in a pair of Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply rubber or plastic chocks they are way higher, weigh and cost almost nothing. Just trying to save your Bacon here..... Hope this helps.

thanks for your videos for the blades i use a 40 grit flap wheel on my grinder, removes metal fast and wont heat up, i can do a bad blade in about ten seconds each side, i mow for a living and sharpen my blades 2 or 3 times a week depending on how many sticks i dont want to pickup lol, short of buying a professional sharpener this is the best way i have found and the flap wheel is a lot quieter

Mine came with a clear plastic tube that connected to the plastic oil drain. The most irritating way to get the oil out. Now, I've lost the tube. Other than that, I love this mower!
I bought a Braided Stainless Steel Drain Hose for my Kawasaki oil changes. After cutting the silly plastic fitting off the engine, it was an easy install. The Stainless hose stays where I bend it, instead of trying to straighten up away from the oil container. Amazon has 'em.
Since it had way too much oil in it it's possible the owner screwed the oil gauge in fully to check oil level which was the case with a lot of older small engines but isn't the case with a lot of the newer engines

Ha its that time again for an oil change on my Apex 52.... The fuel filter you removed is the original Kawasaki filter, which I'm sure you know that. I just replaced the one on mine as well (with an original KAW filter from the dealer), but did't bother with the spark plugs. It's the same engine -FR691V as the mower you're working on. Got a ? ... What's the rule of thumb on spark plugs? My mower only has 41 hours on it, but this is my 4th season using it. It runs fine and never an issue so my motto is ... If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm also a fellow Georgian.
i buy Purple Power at walmart in the 2.5 gallon jugs, mix it half with water in a cheap little one gallon pump sprayer, soak the equipment and just hit it with the water hose on straight stream avoiding the air filter, somethimes i'll put in a bad air filter just to soak up any water, after that i'll replace it
Hey any help , I purchased mine brand new , now it has 48 hours on it and the blades are not engaging when I pull the PTO up I can hear it trying to , but nothing
check your belt, make sure it hasnt come off, look under the back of the mower and see if the belt is still on, with a 3/8 socket take your blade spindle pulley covers off and make sure the belt is still on, and make sure something doesnt have the blades wedged like grass or a stick or something, with the mower off... if you can turn the blades freely the belt come off
Thank you sir I have done this and belt is tight and on and looks great , but the pto will not engage unless I hook up like to my car , for instance jumper cables is what I've been having to do , thought it was the battery so bought brand new from ariens service dealer and then they gave me a bigger battery , so i had bring it back cause the battery tie down doesnt fit with that battery , and no joke he said you dont need it anyways most ppl just take them off , so baffled i was like okay so i put the battery on it and it worked then after a while did the exact same thing the only way i can get the pto to engage is start the mower and still jump it off with my vehicle, or start it and hook up a battery charger that is the only way , I have the exact same mower in ur video same motor but I was wondering on ur starter solenoid the smaller wire hooks to which side on the solenoid , mine is on the left side of the solenoid but my solenoid is underneath the seat right under the black fuse block but please any help I would greatly appreciate it if you would like my cell number is 865-253-2313 please call me if you can , and I can show you video or pics if you need me to, and show you exactly what I'm saying is honestly 💯% truth , but thank you sir so much I have asked the service dealer and they want to keep my mower for months and I can't wait that long , not to mention , pay lost and job lost thank you again sir for ur time and help
My Gravely ZT-XL leaked from the same type of plastic oil drain plug. It had oil residual all around the engine , just like the one you worked on. Very bad design.
I no longer lay under my mower to service the deck. The IKON-XD52 deck can be removed in less than ten minutes and without tools. Flip it upside down on the bench on a 4X4 on each end and work standing up. When oil is drained and black in color, that's a good thing. It means the oil is doing its job and holding contaminants in suspension rather than allowing them to cling to critical engine parts. All the best to you as you begin a new journey.
When I take oil out of my Iconx I have a mini pump I put the tube where the yellow cap is. Much faster then your method. As far as how much oil goes in machine just look at the owners manual! Just guessing like you are doing takes longer and inaccurate. You definitely had to much in there,Iconx take 2 qt. That is the reason you had oil all over the frame.
The reason it read so much oil is your supposed to check oil without screwing down the dipstick . Down So when you screwed it down it showed more oil . Dipstick says check only by seating the dipstick but not threading
yea it was weird, didnt smell like fuel, seemed to be all oil but way over full... customer was like "well i dunno". we have to be investigators for sure!
I just did a tune up in my ariens ikon xd52. I replaced the drain plug with the hose part# 51044-0902. Next time should be easy oil change.

Dont screw in the dipstick, set it in a pull it out. My ikon X 52 with the same engine calls for SAE 30W?

I did my oil change on my push mower man it was over do lol the oil was black had to go to Home Depot get 2 quarts of oil for 15 bucks

I just purchased my first zero turn. When is time to sharpened the blades do you need a way to rebalance the blades or it doesn't matter?

You are supposed to grind using the rest and the blade the other way around grind from the top is the proper and safe way to use a bench grinder

I am always suspicious when I see high oil level that the carbs are leaking into the cylinders or I question the costumer . That is way over full .
