    One thing about using a clipper is they will change the tone of your sound drastically. You have to be careful. Its one thing slamming a kick 808 making it loud but listen for the tone shift. Unless you dont care about the tone. When it comes to mastering a song all the tracks even vocals it might get loud but everything will change tonality.

    I LOVE IK’s clipper. It might sound insane but for 95% of the hip hop tracks I mastered for my recent record I used 2 IK clippers in series (1 to 3 db clipping each) followed by Fabfilter Pro L2 used as a clipper (slowest attack, fastest release, no oversampling). Power, punch, no pumping, perfection

    What do you think about the "loudness war" being over and now due to streaming platforms needing less hot mixes to get a consistently loud track between songs? Are we still mixing to 2010s standards or should we now be mixing to 2020 levels and using less limiting and maintain more dynamic range in our mixes knowing that the streaming services algorithms are going to normalize our content upon upload?

    • @RawTechniqueStudios
      @RawTechniqueStudios  Před 4 lety +3

      I prefer the new more dynamic approach but people are so use to the loud sound and in that is heavy compression and clippers... so depends on the artist. I get loud but make sure to leave -1dbTP for streaming.

    • @RawTechniqueStudios
      @RawTechniqueStudios  Před rokem

      It just depends on your tracks gain going into the plugin. If it’s low gain you need to push higher to get to the clipped stage. If you have a high gain you need less to get to the clipping.

    That beat nice, you did that?

  • @divaudofficial
    @divaudofficial Před 3 lety +1

    But what about LUFUS readings? Due to the Loudness Wars, the industry decided to have a standard LUFUS reading of -14db in terms of loudness. Your fab filter reading was hitting -9, -10. Whenever I hit -14db it sounds good BUT in comparison to professional tracks, it’s not as forward. All this to say, do you aim for -14b or do you just want your beats to be loud enough in comparison to industry music?

    • @RawTechniqueStudios
      @RawTechniqueStudios  Před 3 lety +2

      I try to make the song sound good and get as loud as I can without hitting the limiter too hard. I aim for -9 LUFS or so but not a big deal if it is -8, -10, -11... -14 LUFS is just Spotify's playback. Eveyone still uploads at full level like on a CD and Spotify just turns loud music down to -14 LUFS.

    Is it wrong I am not liking the sound of clipping? I also did not experience what you showed in a savings of decibles. In all cases the sound wasn't improved and there was no real benefit as far as decible savings. I must not be using it correctly.
    Maybe I am not using it right, but it seems I can achieve a better sound with more depth not using a clipper. I tried it on kick drum, then drum bus, bass, and rythm section. I did not like the sound it imparted in any situation and it always seemed to take away from punch and feeling, it felt flattened to some degree. But its late at night, I may be tired and will try again in the morning. I am brand new to this clipping stuff.
