Westfall - Music & Ambience | World of Warcraft Classic

- Westfall borders the Kingdom of Stormwind and is mostly populated by humans not under the Alliance's complete control. The region was stolen right under the Alliance's nose by its own bitter people. This rich land has lain fallow since the Second War, but it is now held by the Defias Brotherhood. Stormwind claims the land as its own, but it has found little time to be concerned with it, with insufficient funds and might to retake the region. A handful of farmers still try to keep their land, and some even attempt a tithe to Stormwind every year, but most only grow enough to feed themselves. The Defias Brotherhood controls much of the region, focused in the southern area of Moonbrook.
Westfall is a region of rolling pastures and farms that were once beautiful and green, but now have become barren with drought and maltreatment at the hands of bandits. The grass is yellowed and the fields are infested with ravenous carrion birds and mechanical harvest watchers gone rogue. The outlawed Defias Brotherhood has gained a strong foothold in Westfall and controls several camps and farmsteads in the area. It is rumored that these bandits possess a large mine with an entrance somewhere in the small town of Moonbrook, and that they have connections with the kobolds that occupy the Jangolode Mine in Westfall and the various mines in Elwynn Forest.
The People's Militia has erected a last bastion of military power in the region at Sentinel Hill, from where they issue commands to anyone willing to aid the cause. Although most of the area's farms have fallen to disrepair and passed into control of the Defias, there are still a number of farmers who bravely (and desperately) cling to their holdings in spite of overwhelming odds.
After Stormwind City was razed by the Horde in the First War the Stonemasons Guild, led by Edwin VanCleef, were hired to rebuild it, a massive project which required a small army of engineers and artisans. After the reconstruction was complete, VanCleef met with the nobles. What happened next is somewhat unclear; the nobles claim that VanCleef demanded more money than was originally agreed upon, while the Stonemasons maintain that the nobles refused to pay them the promised amount. The Stonemasons started a riot in the newly-rebuilt Stormwind that resulted in the accidental death of Queen Tiffin Wrynn, when a thrown stone hit her in the head. This caused King Varian Wrynn to deal with the rioters more severely, driving the Stonemasons from the city.

For some strange reason, whenever I quit WoW for an extended period of time, it's my memories in Westfall that bring me back. It's like a real place where I spent my childhood. Oh the feels...
Westfall has such a unique feel, I know exactly what you mean.
Came here for the exact same reason and to say the same thing!
Thats because It IS a real place where you DID spend your childhood! whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@@vizzini539 True!
For me it was the plains of Mulgore that I am reminded of with this song. Where my Druid began his journey.
I remember spending so much time clucking at that chicken to get the chicken as a pet. LOL!
Started playing in fall 2005. Young impressionable me. Outside in the real world we had our autumn storms, colorful trees, cold nights, warmish days, pumpkins and barren fields. Then, arriving in Westfall which mirrored the real world, with this majestic music and gorgeous (still) graphics. Man, this game manages to deliver the same feelings it did almost 20 years ago.
The only thing hitting the feels harder than this is Defias Pillagers.
That time you hand in the Westfall Stew.
Desperately seeking a rejuvenating escape from the 9 to 6 work grind and continuous self-improvement at home. Exhausted and longing for the carefree days of youth, spent playing wow and finding relaxation.
Bro.... ;(
I like old Westfall. I've lived in the Midwest most of my life and I like the idea of a zone consisting mostly of farmland. Deadmines was one of my favorite early dungeons as well.
I am a 'city boy', but the more I get old I like the farmland idea as well. Blizzard made afterwards other zones like it, but this was the original one. I did not understand at that time what was the lore in Westfall, I though Defias are just some bandits, but again later, I've understood this is a 'morally grey' issue (like many others in WoW :) )
Salutation Jake!
Back in the day when u had to clear the entire deadmines by running too it, whew that dungeon was fun back then.
I didn’t realize it until just now, but Westfall is probably partly based on the American Midwest during the dust bowl. I live in California and during the summer and early fall months parts of CA really resemble how Westfall looks, and I like to listen to this and walk around.
@@Sleepy1988 That's awesome, I completely agree with you and I have this tune on a lot when I go out for walks/bike rides. I'm in Sacramento. /wave!
I miss these times... Nostalgia hurts so bad.
1:02 When I started playing Classic WoW last summer, I finally got my first character across the bridge and entered Westfall. I heard this and my eyes teared up from all the memories of that place. The quests, the players, the Defias... I was so glad I decided to play again.
And... if you played anything other than hunter - the running race to corpse started:D
I never remembered those harvest golems being so deadly!:D
@@mariuszopas3352 Playing as a Nelf Priest, it was corpse running in every zone >_
your first dungeon, first big pack of mobs, first wipe
Hogger is first wipe.
A long years ago, my first day in wow, I was alone. After a couple of hours in Elwyn Forest I decided to look what was a the end of the forest so I discovered Westfall and my real life ended in that moment. :)
I bet a lot of people can say the same thing!
xD
Lucky you, I went south to some dark forest noticed a wolf (beasts are no match for mage) and nuked it with Fireball lev 2. That’s how I learned about mob levels, zones and corpse runs.
@@TheOmegaAlfa lol, I remember leveling my first character, a rogue in Elwynn, jumping over the water to take on a wolf and could just barely kill it. My level was so low that a lot of times other wolves would agro from miles away causing me to sprint into the water for an escape. Adrenaline rush that was!
@@3runjosh , indeed, I learned most about aggro ranges when I moved to UGC to pick up flowers at level 34. I still hear Benny Hill music at the back of my mind. xD
I love music from Westfal it brings memories of many joyful hours of leveling spent there. I miss this time so much. I wish legacy servers will be implemented soon. Then I plan to come back to WoW.
All eyes on Blizzcon (2nd November 2018). News about the release date should be probably presented there or we riot!
58 days remaining! :)
@@Meisio Hi Meisio, any opinions on Classic?
So what? You still play or not ?
Wholeheartedly agree. The nostalgia is too strong! Wish I could go back to those days.
I was 10 years old and a new magical world just opened itself to me. thank you blizzard, despite what you have become
Anyone seen the Messenger?
Back in the days, when dust devil was your biggest enemy
If there ever was a nostalgic wow track this is it!
I think that's a good one, because it is played early for both factions (Westfall here for the Alliance and in Durotar for the Horde). It has also instruments which suggest one faction or another (e.g.: drums for the Horde).
Man westfall takes me back when I was a kid waking up and making a little breakfast and hoping on a toon that I created days earlier and finally coming here it felt like a reward
Just picked up classic wow and I love it. I spent level 16 - 20 I love the music and atmosphere of this place.
Classic WoW hype. Summer 2019 cannot come soon enough...
Little did you know the end of the world was upon us.
my god. this just takes me back instantly to my childhood.
fuck it. maybe i should start playing classic again
If you feel nostalgia for past youth you never experienced, know this - It is all true.
Westfall felt expansive, melancholy, threatening. I love the faded loveliness of this zone and its music.
feels like Westfall is alliance equivalent of the Barrens
During Legion Pre launch I was at Westfall defending against the demon invasion on my orc shaman main, first time i fought side by side with alliance players, idk i just love westfall not just a questing zone but i feel nostalgic when i m there.
Westfall was my favorite zone. I started playing right near the end of Vanilla, so I consider myself a TBC baby but it was still Vanilla times when I hit here. I always missed the Defias quest line here and that was the only thing I did with classic servers. It was so nice to "re-live" it even if it was way more crowded than it was. I might have to go back for another Westfall playthrough now that the release is way over.
I forgot how beautiful Westfall can be. Especially those views of the setting sun.
What should I do if I am 30 years old, I have three children , and I desperately want to return to this world, but there is no way.
I love me some westfall
Happy to see you guys back :D
These videos are great! Turn them on when I'm doing house work and listen to the amazing music. Keeps me motivated.
Lol I kept hearing gnolls in my head...😁❤️ Thanks for the video! Always enjoyed questing in Westfall.
Any player, no matter the allegiance should like all these starting zones from the Classic WoW. These zones are the true essence of WoW. Every legendary player from nowadays was once low level and un-geared and had to deal with creatures like gnolls, kobolds, imps etc. :)
Thank you for watching ❤
@@Meisio Agreed! And most importantly dealing with the murlocs! Hehe 😁❤️
More bones to gnaw on...
Boars for me.. im horde
It was in this zone I decided "This is the game for me".
Got my first BoE blue drop here. At level 45. I was helping run my friends though Deadmines, but before that I grew impatient and killed a random boar or something. I was so confused when I seen it.
Most epic. Most calm. This is best location in entire game. Back in the days i just came from school and was sleeping and listening this music. Its so restful music.
Although I’m horde I think I’ll go back to Westfall just for nostalgia. No ganking, just basking in my old memories.
During the beta or stress test back in 2004 I played a human paladin and got him to level 19. The last thing I remember doing was going through Westfall and doing a Deadmines run with a large group of people. We got all the way to the giant ship in the secret cavernous harbor. We worked our way up the ship but never made it to the final boss up top, which I believe was VanCleef.
I am still bitter the Cruel Barb never dropped for me.
i think i spent about 3 months going from level 13 to 22 in westfall when i was a kid hahah
I remember on day 1 of playing I just started running at some point. Ended up in Westfall, but I had no idea how to get back to a place where I could comfortably level up, so I had to delete my character.
I had a similar experience on a Horde character. I saw some guys jumping off a cliff in the starting area of Durator so I decided to jump. I ended up in Ratchet.
As a kid I always thought that "Westfall" was a reference to my home state Westphalia which is spelled Westfalen in German.
Are you talking about North-Rhine Westphalia? My grandparents live there. Its beautiful with the windmills and traditional german houses it does kinda reminds me of Westfall.
@@naer3513 yup I live here but in the suburbs of a big city although the more traditional houses and fields are right behind me. It still depend on where you grandparents live, I live in Westphalia, but the Rheinland is the area near the Rhine (which is a river) and a bit different in culture. We got into North-rhine-Westphalia because of some war with France an I belive in the 18 hundred something. Haha little history class for a "yes I live here", anyways where are you from?
@@paumen9330 I'm from Montenegro actualy its a small country next to adriatic sea. My grandparents live in small place "Geseke" which is about 100km away from Dortmund so when I visit them I use the chance to go to famous Dortmund stadium and Cologne cathedral aswell. I love North-rhine Westphalen is a beautiful place.
@@naer3513 haha actually I live in Dortmund, Dortmund Brackel xD
The name itself probably is.
Elwynn music, together with Westfall music have striking similarity to the background music used in Star Trek DS9 during scenes in Bajor or with Kai Winn especially during the later seasons. And there are parallels as well. Kai - Winn = El - Wynn and the parched farmlands of Bajor (Shakaar episode) looked exactly like Westfall. The farms of Bajor were poisoned by the invasion of the Cardassians just like Westfall's farmlands are rendered barren by the invasion of the Horde. Even Major Kira a Bajoran former resistance member / terrorist would sometimes be wearing the colors of the Defias Brotherhood (white shirt and red pants). It wouldn't be surprising since the developers of WoW are huge fans of Star Trek!
wow
This video is my favourite. It instantly takes me back to the summer of 2005, it's a masterpiece. I fear when I stop playing classic... I'll continue to come back and remind myself on how good it was.
My favorite zone forever.
Thank god Shadowlands went back to the ambient music. Ambient music allows you to write your own story in a zone rather than having the zone tell you what your story should be (Like Many BFA/WOD zones are super orchestral).
All the memories!
This is the same music that plays in Durotar as well and I believe also maybe in Thousand Needles? Really enjoy this one and I think all of us have really fond memories of our little nooby characters running around in Azeroth struggling to make a name for themselves when they hear this song. Those truly were some good times and it would be nice for the game to bring our characters back down to a more "grounded" level.
Wait... this is the place i grew up
Oh, nicely said :'(
I remember that giant scarecrow elite that dropped that 12 slot bag... it was tight
What I’d give to go back and experience WoW all over again for the first time…
This was my favorite area to go as horde and just joke at leveling alliance members and dance/party hah
I used to help people get through death mine when i was young , 55 level back then .
Also having a guild full of newbies , who ever want to get through death mine , can join my guild too .
I give free backpack and resources , a lot of people willing to join .
Have a lot of good time back then , people are just kind and willing to form a family in game .
I like to look apon the star in this area , with this epic music and the bright sky with moon and star , just pure gold .
I made a campfire , sit there ... and just wait .
Hope everything wont disappear .
Man... The feels.... Can you imagine how successful WoW would be if it launches today? With Twitch and YT Live being around? Sheesh.
Westfall the first Zone where Red marked mobs dont just mean they will attack you first.
but they will attack you first 20 yard away (and not the 3 yards in Elwynn) and mobs are now in squad and not just solo.
meaning oh you attacked that lone murlock... well his buddy that was haning out whit 3 other 30 yards away just now aggro.
Always came here as a lowbie Horde., killing boars for hides and meat at Standell's Pond, looting the chests scattered throughout the area. And most importantly killing the Defias Traitor while an Ally was on the quest!🤣
Very good chill music 👍
I miss the good old BC days. These were the best days with adults playing the game. Now it’s full of kids buying stupid mounts and other nonsense.
Oh Meisio, get out of my head
Same here :D Perfect for some monotone tasks at work !
My pleasure Jack. I will do at some point a gameplay here of course. Here and in Redridge. It's a must! :)
Oh i honestly can't wait! A delight to see you upload!
Thanks for uploading all of these vanilla tracks, been listening to them non stop
Thank you Meisio. Your content is amazing. I can't wait to experience this all over again when Classic (Vanilla) WoW releases next year :D
May the light of Elune be with you
So fucking nostalgia 🥲
Time npc is needed at these nostalgic places i wanna fight the defies brotherhood
I remember Westfall when the DK's used to kill the gryphon master when that is the only way to escape or run long distances back to Stormwind.
Someone should duplicate Westfall in real life, make it a theme park.
@Meisio thank you for the reminder of Westfall
Westfall probably my most played zone along with Tanaris & Azuremyst isle, because i mostly played Draenei.
I love it, this is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!
Happy you are here Evovar and you like it :)
There are more movies on my channel which need a new face, but thanks to you, this one had priority :)
This is amazing, thank you so much - takes me back !
Thank you for watching Zoenna :-)
OMG IM SHO HYPED PLAYNG VANILLA WOW IN 15 DAYS ...HIC!
Hehe, indeed. I am excited and also in panic mode. Don't know why I am panicking though... xD
Classic WoW - Summer 2019!
15 days? 4 months ago. Im confused. Theres still another 4 months or more before release
It was during the Wow Classic demo period at Blizzcon (in November)
It's March, 2005 again!
This is really powerful. Truly brings me back to a wonderful time in my life. Thank you so much Meisio.
i feel ya bro
August 27, 2019. I'll be there :)
Unexpected ! Love every bit of it :D
How can it be unexpected when more than 50% of my content is Vanilla related? :D
Thank you Varkoff! I trust everything is well :)
Ahhhhh so good Meisio, I save this one for bed time tonight! Wow dreams :) Don't forget to get your chicken pet !!!
I will not forget it when I'll do a gameplay here :D
Sweet dreams!
Hello, you are my new fave youtube channel, thanks for the good work.
This is the zone I spent the most time in, both for leveling so many alts... but also for the ambiance and music. For me, it also really evoked the world in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King, a favorite series I had been reading since I was young. The idea of a 'wild west' region that had this curious fusion of simple farm life, with the anachronistic presence of obsolete, mysterious technology: like the Harvest Golems of Westfall, or the broken-down oil rigs of Citgo in the Dark Tower world. In both, the feeling of a world that has "moved on", and a menacing undercurrent of despair.
Sunny autumn is wonderfull...thank you buddy)))
Still don't understand how the grass is so green during the night though :o
Thank you for your visit Aleksander! :)
Maybe yellow and blue get mixed and become green. :)
Except this isn't autumn more like mid summer.
Ça rappelle le farm des sangliers pour les foies de brochetripe et le ragoût.
YEAHHHH MEISIO IS DOING MY DAY, AWESOMEEEEE
:) Happy you like it! I hope you had a great day :)
I love it ,love play this game play I love it profession jewelcrafthing and engginering
10y me: woah this place looks cool *walks towards barn* oh look a quest I can do *reads* kill 20 harvest watchers huh that doesn’t seem so bad *turns* Oh Hey WOAH WOAH!!! *Harvest watcher aggro range activated* “Miss miss miss” I can’t do damage but he hurts a lot!!! *runs away and daze*
Only years later we realised we were the only monsters in Westfall
nah man I was just minding my own business running down the path and those harvesters hunted me down
마음이 편해지는 음악~
I appreciate you so much!
Thank you. So I understand you like the Classic content? Feedback is always appreciated :)
Meisio
I like all that is wow ambience and animations :3
That makes both of us :-D
This shit takes me back. Anyone know where to find the silver?
I like it
Thanks, unexpected and timely :D Nothing fits the upcoming autumn like good ol' Westfall. It's nice to have a taste of Classic in the middle of all this BFA hype. Although BFA looks good I still miss the slower pace, simpler times of Classic. Some dungeons really feel more like Dance Dance Revolution than WoW these days. The lore, too, is getting tired.
I too expect some announcement at Blizzcon, maybe summer 2019 or something. Can even be later, I'm not in a hurry.
An announcement at Blizzcon that they will launch it on the next summer will be sweet. I know a lot of people (who are not playing Retail) are waiting for it. :)
This comment couldn't be more spot on.
Westfall reminds of places in California questing here =) Solvang, Lompoc areas lol
It was in Westfall that I discovered that you cannot drop items down if your inventory is full, like in Diablo II. What a disapointment that was. :)
I LOVE YOU MEISIO. THANK YOU:)
Yessss!
Thank you for watching Alaric, looking forward for feedback :)
Revisiting this old favorite of mine I realize the music is similar to parts of the Dances with Wolves soundtrack. I wonder if the same composers worked on both.

Great video and nice idea with the subtitles :)
Thank you, came as a discussion which I had with some fine people. There are people who don't necessarily want to see the track title and other who like to know everything about the song. This came as a middle ground. It's not the most elegant solution and I am still looking for the best way to do it.
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you like it :)

Sounds like playing wow at 4 AM hoping mom doesn't wake up and catch me
Fall 2006, private server. So many memories.
Meisio,.....To the west, to the shore is a small isle. And there is a pirate with an interesting music. ;)
Yes, it's the Westfall Lighthouse (46:30 in my movie). In WoW Classic this island does not have any special music. It's the same as for the rest of Westfall (Plains aka Shimmering Flats OST).
I went even further, checked the Retail music as well - hmm... the same theme _Plains._
Are you sure you haven't heard it somewhere else?
Salutations!
Meisio , yes right.
I just have idea about my solved :
Main music but sometime change into other music of place in that teritory;
togheter with ambience of that place (walls, birds, ),
And again back to main music of this teritory.
It's just a my idea for second option.
Anyway i enjoy in your video-audio ^^
Thank you for the feedback.
I've tried that on Classic videos, but I've received comments from the people that I should stick only with that zone's music (for authenticity). On new videos (post Cataclysm), this is what I am usually doing, but for Classic I can't mix them much because the music tracks are just a few.
Salutations,
Meisio
@@Meisio , Thank you anyway. ;)
