How To Grease Your Driveshaft On Your Toyota Tacoma

Here's a quick simple video going over how to grease the zerk fitting on my 2004 Tacoma TRD Offroad. You have 6 total to grease and take special caution on grease the slip yoke.

@@BK_BT , do you live in a snow area ? If so it's a good idea to spray the areas that are prone to rust with lanolin , once a year

On the 4x4 Access and Double cabs there's 9 zerks including 3 on the front driveshaft and 6 on the rear driveshaft.

you can grease the slip yoke more than 2-3 pumps...

You can use BRAKE CLEANER to clean the zerks and parts before and after pump the fresh grease that way keep them clean and look nice ( If customers check your work then you are doing good job) kk Good luck!!

I have a swishing sound in reverse im sure its in drive too just not as loud.

Thanks for the vid. Quick question: I have a 2006 Tacoma and according to my mechanic, some of the zerks need a 'needle' type of grease gun end attachment. The zerks are more like an indented cone shape and need an attachment that fits that kind of zerk. Do you have such a situation with your Tacoma?

I heard you are suppose to use moly greas on the slip yoke

Yes, but the jury is out on that. Later years I've heard it's no longer required.
I use amsoils red grease & it's fantastic

My 2018 SR 4x4 had 2 zerks on the front drive shaft and none on the rear drive shaft

I don't think its a great idea to spray brake parts cleaner around a joint that requires grease even if your going to put more in it. grease needs to remain thick spraying that breaks it down. Just a thought

I agree, it’s not going to help with the seal’s longevity. Just wipe off well before and after greasing.

Question: I’ve got a 2000 4x2 PreRunner i found 5 zerks. I watched your video AFTER I greased the yoke. So, what if I pumped more than 3 pumps on the yoke? I think I did 6. The shaft moved as I was doing it. Help

The drive will be stiff. After a few weeks of driving it will get back to normal.
