“Nothing Fails” is one of Madonna’s best songs in my opinion, I think it’s a masterpiece. I would recommend “Love Profusion” (from the same album) for the next reaction :)

The holy trinity of ballads on the AMERICAN LIFE album is Nothing Fails, Intervention, & X-Static Process played back to back. Really soothes the soul. Loving your reactions to this gem of an album

"Nothing Fails" is great. I also really like the whole American Life album. It's strangely vilified by the general public. Perhaps the "rapping" on "American Life" was too much for them. Then I think you should react to "Intervention", which is my second favourite on the album.

Agreed. Don’t understand why it’s so reviled by so many. It’s a terrific album.
To quote Madonna's Hollywood.. "Music stations always play the same song". I remember there was a move from us Tribers back then campaigning for this song to get more airplay, after the 'failure' of the earlier tracks.. But the radio stations weren't having none of it. Such a shame cause this remains one of her best ballads to date.
a little comment to the one who says that madonna does not sing ...Madonna knows how to sing and very well what happens is that in her concerts she dances she sings she makes physical effort choreographies she does not stop throughout the concert she shakes the air goes out to any singer who does that, it would happen the same ... if you see Mariah Carey or other singers are very monotonous because they don't dance, they don't put on a show, they look like singing statues. Madonna puts on a show even though her voice is affected but compensated with her spectacle, but because she sings well, she sings well ...
Madonna doesn’t have to do vocal acrobatics or yell or reach higher notes to get noticed. Her voice is recognizable, soothing, sexy.
Lament during Reinvention is all the proof one needs how good she can be live...also the promo tour for AL.
Madonna pioneered the fusion of folk and electronica/EDM while addressing political matters with American Life which is exactly what Taylor Swift is now re-doing.
Nothing Fails is an underrated ballad and a true gem from the American Life album. Sadly it didn’t have the success it deserved in the states due to the unfair backlash she received for American Life and being blacklisted on radio. This album as a whole just gets better with time. I feel the same will happen with Madame X. It will be appreciated in the future. Madonna is always ahead of her time.
Couldn’t agree more. American Life and Madame X are underrated because it had a strong political message. AL was anti-war, and MX was anti-authoritarian and for gun control. She had fearlessly and consistently “spoken truth to power” despite the backlash she got. But these albums have gems that’ll get the recognition they deserve over time.
Prior to the release of the album Madonna, or her people, were contacted by a girl named Kerri who had a terminal illness. Madonna called her up and over the next couple of days and weeks she would keep calling the girl and talk to her over the phone about music, life and the afterlife etc. Unfortunately Kerri passed away, and Madonna sent the song Nothing Fails to be played at the funeral service, prior to the album release. Madonna was later introduced to Kerri's family and friends on the Oprah show, because they wanted to thank her for what she did for Kerri during those last few weeks of her life...

America turned on Madonna drastically because of her stance on the war with Iraq. It's actually sad because she was on target and suffered greatly for speaking out.
Besides the singles I would also love to see you react to "Nobody Knows Me"...one of the most AMAZING songs on that album.
I wouldn’t say it’s the “most amazing” on that album, I think definitely the one which stands out is “Love Profusion”.
The live version on Reinvention... is one of the concert's highlights for me!

Cody Walker which is my point. It’s all down to personal taste. Thats why I commented when the reply almost tried to dismiss the original posters opinion. Clearly Krasten R thinks it’s the most amazing. I don’t know why people can’t just say what theirs are without almost trying to criticise someone’s preference of songs.
The album "american life" suffered a real boycott because of the positions taken by Madonna about the war in Iraq (american life's video). Suddenly, the majority of radio stations refused to broadcast the following singles. This is why Hollywood, Nothing Fails and Love profusion have had no success in the US.
It is only in France that the album had a similar success to the Music album.

"Nothing Fails" was released in the US in hopes of attaining sales from . However, it did not chart on the US Hot 100, making it the second single from the album to fail to chart in the US. Nevertheless, the song reached number one on the Hot Dance Club Songs and Hot Singles Sales charts. The single also reached number one in Spain and the top ten in Canada and Italy.
it needed a dramatic music video to get some play with some Madonna controversy
@@galmacland and it should've been the 2nd single following "American Life". She went over the top with DAD and AL, "Nothing Fails" was there to smooth things out, but her label decided to play "safe" and release the more "vibrant" and "colorful" singles "Hollywood" and "Love Profusion".

American Life album was way ahead of its time, FAR BEYOND it’s time, fresh, authentic, amazing production, lyrics, unique distinctive sound, purety of Madonna voice and a wildly underrated, truly misunderstood masterpiece.
I brought this album back in 2003, reminds me of a relationship I was in at the time. When I heard this song I for the first time I wanted it to be a single, especially a Christmas single. Even had a video in my head....lol. In the UK it came out as a double a side with Love Profusion. Love Profusion had a video and was the song getting air play and tv exposure. It made No.11 in the UK. Another song I love from this album is Intervention and Nobody Knows Me. Just goes to show in the states if you p#@s them off they can wreck/tarnish your career. One of my favourites album of hers and also takes me back to spring/summer 2003 when I was in a good place job and relationship wise. Great album.
This came out when I was a Senior in College. I was really sick that year. This song got me through a lot. For about three months I thought I was going to die. I didn’t tell anyone. I was a Dance Minor too. My Dance Instructor mentioned my weight loos. When I lost so weight, I finally knew I needed to get help. They figured out what was wrong with me close to Graduation. This song got me through it. 💜💜💜

This is one of my all time favourite Madonna songs, stunning. It’s such a sacred song and so underrated. Madonna doesn’t get half the recognition she deserves. This song deserved so such success. So moving and so emotional.

This is one of my favorite Madonna songs. American Life is a highly underrated Madonna albums.
American Life is a work of art
It was about 2003. the U.S. was highly divided on the Iraq War and the Bush Administration. Madonna was critical of era's politics, patriotism, religion, economics, and self-reflection. She was shunned as were the Dixie Chicks for this stance. The opening single, "American Life" "poisoned the well" for the rest of the album.
I totally missed this song apparently, just listened it for the first time, OMG those lyrics 🤩, literally what's going in my life now.🤯, just like you Dereck I totally was drawn into this song....... wow.....❣❣❣
I'm so happy that you like the acoustic Madonna coz I like her so much as well!!! I recommend he album Amercian life in its whole it is one of her best, it got more sucesss in France because she was boycotted in US at the same because she was against Bush 's opinions and his opinion about the Iraq war. Listen to "Easy Ride" the last track from her album, it is a real masterpiece for me Really intimate Madonna!!! Love your react!!

Yeah, I got goosebumps when that gospel choir started the chorus-so uplifting and healing, gave the same vibe as the choir in Like A Prayer. She may not be religious but she’s so spiritual here. This and Nobody Knows Me are 2 outstanding tracks from her American Life era. Appreciate your great reaction.
I'm still so dissapointed that there was no video for this amazing single. It was certainly worthy of one, it's one of her greatest tracks!
Everything from American Life is pure gold music, that’s why it is my favorite Madonna’s album.
This album was the first time she stopped getting airplay and stopped getting charting songs. Ever since then, she has only been able to get on the chart here and there. After this, the only songs that charted were “Me Against the Music,” “Hung Up,” “Sorry,” “4 Minutes,” “Give it 2 Me,” “Celebration,” “Give Me All Your Luvin’,” and “Bitch I’m Madonna.”

One of the best songs from this album. Anyone who is a fan of her's knows that she is capable of great ballads. You just have to look beyond the controversy of her image. Choir on this added that vulnerability she is singing about.

Your reaction brought such nostalgia to me because I remember reacting the very same way almost 20 years ago when I first listened to this track. Almost two decades later, you reminded us that it is timeless. This was her "Like a Prayer" for the new millennium and she delivered. Religion is dogma - it is politics. Spirituality is personal- it is a conversation. The more we remove ourselves from dogmatic ways of thinking, the more we can embrace a personal and spiritual conversation with God without judgement. American Life was a very personal album for her. She was married to Guy Ritchie at this time. Madonna is a great songwriter and people do not give her that much credit for that. As she has gotten older, she is not played on the radio at all. She continues to make music that moves people and makes them think. One of the greatest artists of our times

You’re so adorable, you’re reaction is so genuine. this song has been in my life since I was 13 and it’s a song that reminds me of getting my heart broken and being hurt by people i thought I loved but always made me feel stronger for letting them go. Failure is a huge part of life and it only makes us stronger. You need to listen to Portishead and their life at roseland ballroom album, it’s truly the best live performance I’ve ever seen.

Nothing Fails is such an underrated song. Madonna and Mirwais make magic, the 3 albums they've done together are among Madonna's most artistic albums IMO: Music, American Life and Madame X.

The song was released with so many remixes that the Australian Recording Industry Association considered it an EP and it chartered on the album charts instead.

It doesn't chart in the Us because of the US backlash of American LIfe few months before ..US radio ignore her since then .Also Madonna didn't shoot a video (it was cancelled )so it doen't help for the promo .The song was also a success in FRance (strong airplay for all the American Life singles ).LOVE PROFUSION was the next single (a lovely ballad and a music video ) .On AMERICAN LIFE so much great songs : XSTATIC PROCESS , INTERVENTION or EASY RIDE (beautiful strings and lyrics ).Madonna sang live NOTHING FAILS (with Mirwais behind ) on MTV .The song DONT TELL ME in 2001 was a huge success and another Madonna/ Mirwais collaboration !
