i love raincaps 😅..i use a propane torch pull the intake hose as close to the intake as possible feed it hot air as i crank it with a started button…cold starts seem cool but it destroys started and battery life. i got a JD4430 that’s like this, low compression needs to be rebuilt
Ok. So I got the same tractor. How do you keep it turning over for so long. My batteries give out. Also should I bump the throttle up when starting. I have read that I should. I put a 1500 watt circulating heater on last winter. That helps alot. Live in Manitoba Canada. Gets pretty cold. No shed to keep it in. The only tractor we have for feeding cows.
I have a skid steer with a Perkins that starts the exact same as this. If someone has an idea what is the most likely cause: glow plugs or injectors, feel free to comment as I'd like to have a go at fixing it soon.
Most Perkins have a Thermostart, which ignites fuel in the intake to warm intake and fuel. Make sure it's in proper working order. On my JCB you hold the key in start position just before it turns over the starter for 10 to 15 secs. Most Perkins have the same setup. My JCB skid fires right up typically but under 30°f I use the Thermostart and it really does wonders.
You could literally hear the cylinders and fuel getting warmer and warmer as the starter cranked faster and faster until the fuel finally decided to ignite
This engine have lowe compression in the cylinders, need rebuild or replace the engine rings,Is why take so long to startup, and also some times when this happen the diesel pump need rebuilt with the Injectors tips, but MF to me is the best tractors because is so reliable in fuel, better than John deere because is more easy to repair them in this particular size like 165,175 ,265 285 to first 290 with A248
I can’t believe it took that long to get going! Holy Cow! Hell of a battery and starter on it too! Jeez!
Thats gotta be the best set of batteries and the toughest starter in the world
Best friggin cold start I ever seen

And that is how clouds are made😁
It nearly blew the cap off of the exhaust!
Damn that stater is hot...lol
our 285 couple crank and the way it goes..

get a couple 1000 cca group 31 batteries, that should help with cranking as well as longevity
double the amperage not the voltage and spray some either in her she loves it rev that bitch to the moon while your cranking
How come it took so long, thought perkins were quick startin.
Qwantuz hp? ?
There's nothing wrong with giving the girl a small snort of either lol

This one has worn rings. Pretty common from my experience working on them

more like combust
Fuck fixing the thing.. just keep cranking...
Strange????
Perkins always starts hot or cold 😊😊😊
Save your starter and give it a shot of either
A new starter is much cheaper that pistons and rings
geez it must be cold if a 318 perkins doesnt want to go 😬
I bet that smell goid
my 8100 ford have d same scenario, i lit gasoline and let it sniff intake manifold, and bang....easy start.
Head problem

Yes, the rings in this tractor were wore out
