We talk often about the physically dominant big hit tackles but it can't be denied that the chop tackle is just as beautiful in its own
So true. These are arguably better because they stop attacks dead and leave attacker vulnerable to turnovers straight away.
@@rumble8806 I don't think isn't visualising appealing, but forever effective, straight out-of-the-book type.
I'd honestly rather have a team hit nothing but 2 on 1 and chop tackles than a team with just big, thumping hits. So much potential to rip or steal ball in rucks.
Still rewatch that Sam Warburton tackle every few weeks. Amazing how low he gets.
Pretty much the only way he could have stopped a try there. Any have higher on Manu and you will just get dragged over by his leg drive. Fantastic tackle
Dan Lydiate in his prime was a menace of the chop tackle
Thought it would be a compilation of the best of Dan Lydiate😀
Sam warburton on Tuilagi one of the best tackles of all time
All the Cowan Dickie ones shouldve been pulled up.. no wrap or arms at all
A friend of mine is friends with will Connor’s, he used to tie his washing line about a foot off at the ground and make tackles underneath it, best chop tackler in the world possibly
JVDF,Sam Underhill, Will Connors, have got the best tackle technique in the game
Lydiate as well
One thing you notice about all Leinster forwards is that their tackle technique is phenomenal. They’re really well coached in the tackle zone all the way up.
2:11 the tackle from Halfpenny is incredible but that's terribly played from Toulon 🤦♂️ all running sideway
that will connors tackle at 4:57 is textbook
I wish this was just called a tackle not a chop tackle. it was how i was taught. if you get hold of both legs then the balance of the attacker is unstable. just above the knees or even around the ankle if you can
It must hurt like absolute sin to tackle a guy at the knees like that when he’s running at full speed right at you.
For me as a rugby fan this is and was the Dan Lydiate special ( not a Welsh supporter)
I think he just showed how efficient it is for a big man to tackle low, if your huge and hitting low you will stop anything
Thanks for scouring and editing the all the footage and putting together ANOTHER GREAT RUGBY video!!
Saw the title and immediately wondered how many Will Connors clips there'd be. The man just quietly goes about his work and will be fighting for his place back soon.
Anybody else find themselves humming Monty Pythons "I'm a Lumberjack" whilst viewing another Andrew Ford compilation???????
Amazing video.. Love the chop tackle ❣️there should be a tutorial on the chop tackle🤷♂️
Welsh boys absolutely class at the ‘Lydiate special’
Halfpenny tackle at 2:14 is just amazing.
Belting compilation again Mr forde again well done Sir!
Some real beauties, but also a few "Ooh, he just speared him with his head!" attempts.
Was waiting for when I was going to see LCD in the video 😂
the nightmare of bastareaud
Two things are a definite in this world. Death and Owen Farrell not being in a chop tackle video 🤣
Will Connors chops every tackle
Nice vid Mr Forde nice vid !!
Chop tackle...or as it was called when I played...a normal tackle.
Warburton and Lydiate, absolute masters.
Awesome upload mate
Will connors is a chop tackle specialist
Thanks, now my knees hurt
For me, the most powerful chop-tackler is Ignacio Brex, Buber 13 of Italy, is incredible
Rylands of Cardiff Met with hell of a chop!
A problem with an ankle high tackle is that the ball carrier can offload in anticipation and then gain a penalty for a late tackle. This is because the tackler has to take his eye off the ball earlier.
In an era with head contact leads to red cards and 14 men it's weird we dont see chops more often
dunno, i'm assuming they ain't all that easy to pull off. A lot to do with timing and body precision
Obsessed with the 'dominant tackle' (though I'd argue this kind exposes the carrier to the jackler more!) and denying the offload?
Will Connor is a beast at chop tackles
Poetry in motion…
Love the Met footage from the semi 🏹
Charles Rylands at its finest
He might just be the greatest tackler of all time, Thierry Dusautoir
0:58 no arms from Marler there haha
its kinda just the way you are first talk to tackle in school or whatever, especially if u are wee like i was

This is like a tutorial on how to get concussion
Welsh bread n butter
For chop tackle just read tackle.
This could have easily been 6 minutes of Dan Lydiate doing his thing
Do you not mean old school tackles before the wrap tackle became the norm.
Most of these are just proper, textbook tackles. There are a few that are knockdowns, with no attempt to use the arms or wrap. Just proves that it is possible to tackle someone without driving your head or shoulder into their face and getting a yellow or red card.
