Rick Wright had a lot more to say and I really wish -- no disrepect to the interviewer as there are obvious language barriers and expectations of the production crew, with that, she does heroically well -- I really wish we had an interview where he was given the freedom and space to say what he wanted to. I really want to hear about his influences, his creative processes in writing, his love for music and the things that were important to him. It saddens me that there is so little footage of this thoughtful, intelligent, sensitive and creative man.
I agree. What an intelligent and talented man that was smart enough to realize that The Pink Floyd was, ego aside, four people. Each creative and amazing in their own unique ways. Such a loss. RIP Rick ❤️
Richard Wright, when you hear him in any interview, it has this effect of putting you at ease - like he's not somebody who would do anything to patronize or belittle you. Like he really makes an effort to understand. Strangely, it makes you feel as if he's alive and well, like he's still around and enjoying his twilight years with his wife. But of course, we all know that this is not the case. No matter how much I want to believe otherwise, that he's still alive and giving interviews to this day, the unfortunate reality is that Rick is no longer of this world. He has left a void that nobody can fill.
He has left a mark no one else could have...and his everlasting portfolio should be appreciated rather than having a 'void' to fill...There is no void, he is still hear to me, every time I hear the sound of his Sonics

Very nice. He listens well because he has empathy. Empathy is what waters preaches about, but has none of. Rick is the opposite of Roger. I am so happy that Dave said there is no more a Pink Floyd without Rick. However, there was Pink Floyd without Roger. Karma is good.

I was a huge fan of Rick Wright. So sad he passed. One of my musical heroes. I saw Pink Floyd back in the Echoes days. They were so fucking cool. I leaned forward in my seat and softly called out"Cymbeline" and heard it moments later from the top of the theater. I said to my date that sounded like my voice. She said, "It was your voice:" I never saw any mics, speakers, anything! Totally mind blowing.
What a proper lad. I could see most musicians of his stature to be annoyed by a peculiar interviewer like her but Rick doesn't mind at all because he's interested in the conversation and wants to get to the point.
She shows deep respect for both Richard and PF work, in a beautiful way I could say, and Richard can feel that, so what can be reason for being annoyed?

I think from a fan's point of view it's a very interesting interview. Richard gives some very good explanations of his personal approach to music. And I can say he is exactly the way I thought he was, a great musician, a true artist, not a rock star, a very good person and human being. Very glad to have found this. Thank you very much for sharing.
Great interview but I'm a bit pissed that they used mainly music from the wall, which Rick didn't particularly participate in. It would have been better to hear pieces from his new album or at least some lof the Pink Floyd songs he wrote.
That is really annoying. I hate it when people do that. On a Watchmojo video of Top 10 Keyboard Players in Rock. Wright was #6, but then they showed footage of Comfortably Numb and Money from Live 8. He was barely filmed! And they showed the GUITAR solos. They should have played SoYCD or Echoes for crying out loud

Probably because there was no professional footage of their other most well known stuff (as far as I know) and not many people are familiar with their pre DSOTM stuff. EDIT: Now that I've watched all of it, there are far too many distracting and irrelevant interruptions by parts of The Wall film and other footage. I'm just want to listen to the bloody interview.
But what changed? At the 1994 shows David often said stuff like "see you next time around", Rick KNEW they would do another album circa 1996. So why didn't it happen? Why, by 2000 was David so against Pink Floyd returning? We'll probably never know.

Don't get me wrong now. I've been a huuuge Floyd fan since 30-35 years now and Roger has been painted out as the "villain". Maybe rightfully so?!? Idk. I wasn't there but I watched them live on the Pulse Tour 94 and that was beyond great. But... In hindsight... Roger wasn't there and it wasn't really the same anymore. Music was amazing. Everything was but it wasn't really Pink Floyd anymore. Together, all 4 of them... Magic

I have to honest here, I'm more of a David Gilmour fan, so I lean more towards the less Roger Waters albums and more on the David Gilmour/Polly Samson albums. Waters is a genius when it comes to lyrics, but I don't like how much he took over from the others. Rick Wright never got the recognition he deserved while he was alive. Only in death do people realize how important he was, even Gilmour. RIP Rick, Shine On
Waters didn't 'take over' from the others. The others were sitting on their hands and contributing nothing. Pink Floyd were finished as a creative entity. Roger Waters was the only one who was actually creating anything and carried Pink Floyd from Animals onwards. It was only when money and song writing credits became an issue that the others rallied together against him since he pointed out that "he was Pink Floyd" because basically, he was. Gilmour was just as guilty for throwing Rick Wright out of the band and never actually really let him back into the band even during the recording of the Division Bell in which he vetoed all of his own songs as 10/10 for inclusion on the album due to the fact that Gilmour made sure that he did not get an even share of the proceeds from Pink Floyd sales. He was readmitted as an 'official member' but you can bet your life his contract was rewritten as to how much he was entitled to. Rick Wright himself was bitter about this arrangement Dave Gilmour has admitted that Rick Wright was originally brought back into the fold since it would make Pink Floyd stronger in their law suit with Roger Waters. Rick Wright had ceased to be a creative influence or contributer since WYWH because he basically became a coke head and had very little interest in the music anymore. Roger recieves the bad press even to this day because the others accuse him of power mongering when in reality he was the only one doing anything. Try to imagine his position? The guy is doing all the work, taking on all the responsibility of doing all the writing etc. The others are even when asked producing nothing to projects, not even chord sequences. Can you not see how this would build resentment? Can you not see how one man (even if he is in the right) looks bad in an argument when confronting the other three?Then due to the resentments this created amongst the band, when it came to credits and royalties the others found strength in numbers when battling with Roger. It came to a head on the Final Cut when Waters under the weight of critticism offered to release the record ans a solo effort. This in itself was a bluff to Dave who greedily rejected the idea since it meant no album profits for him and so insisted on it being a PF record even though both him and Mason made very little contribution. What people who criticise Waters need to remember, is that he is portrayed as being controlling and rejecting anyones work but his own when the reality was he was crying out for contributions from the others but found very little being offered. Pink Floyd had long since ceased to be a band that played and jammed together. Their relationship had long since become a business venture. Waters may have been very bitter about it and this clearly came off badly for him publicly, but that does not change the reality that without Waters there was no Pink Floyd and both he and they knew that, despite the sour grapes filled excuses they still give to this day.
Yes, all correct, which is nice to see, so many people just bought the publicity thrown out about roger being controlling. From 1975/6-1983 Waters was the only person writing anything, the others did nothing, other than say they were not keen on Waters material that is, though actually writing anything much was beyond them! It was very much a case of him turning up saying 'I have enought material for almost 6 sides of vinyl' and the other three combined saying 'well this bit isnt very good, we dont like that at all, and we have made a few alterations to a few tracks for you'. Obviously they didnt want to be 'The Roger Waters Band' and only perform his songs, but it was only the thought of wanting the cash from a record than kept them together. Dave Gilmour was always very much directed by money, hence his decision to carry on as 'Pink Floyd' because this would get more interest, Nick Mason was easy going and more or less the peacemaker, but also inclined to take the path of least resistance, Rick Wright was going through a bad period and certainly not treated well by Gilmour who told Wright personally 'You have my full support' when Waters wanted to fire him for lack of input, only to change to a 'Sorry Rick, your fired' when not firing Rick meant The Wall would be a Roger Waters album and Pink Floyd would have nothing to release for quite some time at least. Roger can be a total arse at times, very demanding on perfection, but always his definition of perfection rather than anyone else in the bands, so not easy to work with and these were not good years for him either. His idea to sue the others was childish in the extreme, not over that he had been the main contributor, but that he didnt want to record as Pink Floyd but didnt want the others to do so either, even though at least Mason had as much right to the name as he did. That caused a lot of resentment between them all, but the sad bit is that they were always better as a four piece group, neither part was quite the same without the other, missing that essential spark. They did some good music on all sides certainly, but would probably have done even better together. Very sad to have lost Rick though, he was always really quiet and polite, a greater loss to music than many really understood until it was too late.
Nyctasia I have no real issue with the Division Bell. I think as an album taken on its own merits it is a nice listen and acceptable. However, anyone who thinks The Final Cut is worse than A Momentary Lapse of Reason or even the Division Bell is nuts. I would not say the Final Cut is their best album but it is a collection of finely crafted songs that spark emotion even if much of it is dark. It does not sound like the rest of Pink Floyds records but then again, either does the Wall. The Division Bell does not sound like the older albums either, particularly 'Coming Back to Life'. But isn't that the whole point? Aren't musicians supposed to grow and keep mixing things up to keep things fresh? The Final Cut may not be to everyones tastes but it is if nothing else genuine. Roger Waters means these songs and that comes through loud and clear on the record. The two Pink Floyd records that followed were manufactured around the idea of what the producers believed the audience expected a Pink Floyd record to sound like. The songs in many cases sound incinsere and lacking depth. Much of the scorn wrought on that record is poured by guitar heads and Gilmour worshipers who expect all Pink Floyd music to be a recreation of Comfortably Numb. The worst track on the record is the embarrassing 'Not Now John'. The one track where Gilmour was at the forefront. Rick Wright had become a drug addict and would show up to sessions high and unable to contribute. He was not working on parts of his own and those he did have found themselves reserved for his solo stuff. As much as I respect his contribution to Pink Floyd, at that point he was just someone who was hanging around which irritated Roger since he was mourning for the band he used to have but were no longer performing. Pink Floyd had become their way of picking up their pay check. Waters definitely handled it badly, but the others have never taken responsibility for the break up themselves publicly. Evidence of this can be seen on AMLOR tour where a fill in drummer and keyboard player were provided for both Wright and Mason since they had both become so rusty they could not hold the show up on their own. Gilmour became the controller as soon as Waters was gone and the other too just played along as they always had.

Rick was certainly a stabilizing force when Syd was going downhill & Dave was getting up to speed in '68, every single was dominated by his voice & keyboards, not enough credit to Rick for that period. Broken China & Wet Dream are great albums, they need to get the remaster treatment. To not remaster all albums by all Pink Floyd members should be a crime...

Michael Ellis Yes, I think Broken China is great too. Takes a bit of listening to get into though - it's a real shame Rick did get a chance to make another album. He was a huge part of the Floyd sound for me and seemingly an extremely humble and nice man.

The clips from The Wall played over and over again during this interview are very unfitting. They should have used more Pink Floyd music from this era combined with Rick's solo stuff. Glad I'm not alone in feeling this way!

It is easy to decide what you like most about Pink Floyd. Just listen to a Waters solo effort, and a Gilmour one. The former I find almost impossible to listen to, and the later almost impossible to stop listening to. To me, the best of the band is when Wright and Gilmour are doing their thing together, with a production quality second to none.
Essa entrevista do Rick para a Bruna Lombardi foi tensa, pra não dizer até certo ponto constrangedora. Ela não estava pronta para entrevistá-lo, mas ele foi muito gentil e fez o melhor que pôde. Estranho pensar que o Rick não é mais deste mundo. Foi dessa entrevista que saiu uma das frases mais icônicas dele, quando ela afirma que ele era uma estrela do rock e ele diz que discorda, que ele não se achava uma estrela do rock. Que ele era, de fato, o tecladista do Pink Floyd, e que o Pink Floyd era muito maior que isso. Uau! Logo na sequência também as coisas que ele diz sobre eles não agradarem as gravadoras e nem mesmo os fãs. Lembro que quando ele morreu David disse que não existiria mais Pink Floyd sem Rick. No entanto, houve Pink Floyd sem o Roger. Que história! Apesar dos momentos tensos vale a pena ver a entrevista com certeza, até como um momento de nostalgia daqueles tempos, daquele mundo que não existe mais. Outro ponto negativo foram os cortes e montagens sem noção do editor.

Great interview but I'm a bit pissed that they used mainly music from the wall, which Rick didn't particularly participate in. It would have been better to hear pieces from his new album or at least some lof the Pink Floyd songs he wrote.
That is really annoying. I hate it when people do that. On a Watchmojo video of Top 10 Keyboard Players in Rock. Wright was #6, but then they showed footage of Comfortably Numb and Money from Live 8. He was barely filmed! And they showed the GUITAR solos. They should have played SoYCD or Echoes for crying out loud

Probably because there was no professional footage of their other most well known stuff (as far as I know) and not many people are familiar with their pre DSOTM stuff.
EDIT: Now that I've watched all of it, there are far too many distracting and irrelevant interruptions by parts of The Wall film and other footage. I'm just want to listen to the bloody interview.

But what changed? At the 1994 shows David often said stuff like "see you next time around", Rick KNEW they would do another album circa 1996. So why didn't it happen? Why, by 2000 was David so against Pink Floyd returning? We'll probably never know.

Don't get me wrong now. I've been a huuuge Floyd fan since 30-35 years now and Roger has been painted out as the "villain". Maybe rightfully so?!? Idk. I wasn't there but I watched them live on the Pulse Tour 94 and that was beyond great. But... In hindsight... Roger wasn't there and it wasn't really the same anymore. Music was amazing. Everything was but it wasn't really Pink Floyd anymore. Together, all 4 of them... Magic

I have to honest here, I'm more of a David Gilmour fan, so I lean more towards the less Roger Waters albums and more on the David Gilmour/Polly Samson albums. Waters is a genius when it comes to lyrics, but I don't like how much he took over from the others. Rick Wright never got the recognition he deserved while he was alive. Only in death do people realize how important he was, even Gilmour. RIP Rick, Shine On
Waters didn't 'take over' from the others. The others were sitting on their hands and contributing nothing. Pink Floyd were finished as a creative entity. Roger Waters was the only one who was actually creating anything and carried Pink Floyd from Animals onwards. It was only when money and song writing credits became an issue that the others rallied together against him since he pointed out that "he was Pink Floyd" because basically, he was. Gilmour was just as guilty for throwing Rick Wright out of the band and never actually really let him back into the band even during the recording of the Division Bell in which he vetoed all of his own songs as 10/10 for inclusion on the album due to the fact that Gilmour made sure that he did not get an even share of the proceeds from Pink Floyd sales. He was readmitted as an 'official member' but you can bet your life his contract was rewritten as to how much he was entitled to. Rick Wright himself was bitter about this arrangement Dave Gilmour has admitted that Rick Wright was originally brought back into the fold since it would make Pink Floyd stronger in their law suit with Roger Waters. Rick Wright had ceased to be a creative influence or contributer since WYWH because he basically became a coke head and had very little interest in the music anymore. Roger recieves the bad press even to this day because the others accuse him of power mongering when in reality he was the only one doing anything. Try to imagine his position? The guy is doing all the work, taking on all the responsibility of doing all the writing etc. The others are even when asked producing nothing to projects, not even chord sequences. Can you not see how this would build resentment? Can you not see how one man (even if he is in the right) looks bad in an argument when confronting the other three?Then due to the resentments this created amongst the band, when it came to credits and royalties the others found strength in numbers when battling with Roger. It came to a head on the Final Cut when Waters under the weight of critticism offered to release the record ans a solo effort. This in itself was a bluff to Dave who greedily rejected the idea since it meant no album profits for him and so insisted on it being a PF record even though both him and Mason made very little contribution. What people who criticise Waters need to remember, is that he is portrayed as being controlling and rejecting anyones work but his own when the reality was he was crying out for contributions from the others but found very little being offered. Pink Floyd had long since ceased to be a band that played and jammed together. Their relationship had long since become a business venture. Waters may have been very bitter about it and this clearly came off badly for him publicly, but that does not change the reality that without Waters there was no Pink Floyd and both he and they knew that, despite the sour grapes filled excuses they still give to this day.
Yes, all correct, which is nice to see, so many people just bought the publicity thrown out about roger being controlling. From 1975/6-1983 Waters was the only person writing anything, the others did nothing, other than say they were not keen on Waters material that is, though actually writing anything much was beyond them! It was very much a case of him turning up saying 'I have enought material for almost 6 sides of vinyl' and the other three combined saying 'well this bit isnt very good, we dont like that at all, and we have made a few alterations to a few tracks for you'. Obviously they didnt want to be 'The Roger Waters Band' and only perform his songs, but it was only the thought of wanting the cash from a record than kept them together. Dave Gilmour was always very much directed by money, hence his decision to carry on as 'Pink Floyd' because this would get more interest, Nick Mason was easy going and more or less the peacemaker, but also inclined to take the path of least resistance, Rick Wright was going through a bad period and certainly not treated well by Gilmour who told Wright personally 'You have my full support' when Waters wanted to fire him for lack of input, only to change to a 'Sorry Rick, your fired' when not firing Rick meant The Wall would be a Roger Waters album and Pink Floyd would have nothing to release for quite some time at least.
Roger can be a total arse at times, very demanding on perfection, but always his definition of perfection rather than anyone else in the bands, so not easy to work with and these were not good years for him either. His idea to sue the others was childish in the extreme, not over that he had been the main contributor, but that he didnt want to record as Pink Floyd but didnt want the others to do so either, even though at least Mason had as much right to the name as he did. That caused a lot of resentment between them all, but the sad bit is that they were always better as a four piece group, neither part was quite the same without the other, missing that essential spark. They did some good music on all sides certainly, but would probably have done even better together.
Very sad to have lost Rick though, he was always really quiet and polite, a greater loss to music than many really understood until it was too late.
Nyctasia I have no real issue with the Division Bell. I think as an album taken on its own merits it is a nice listen and acceptable. However, anyone who thinks The Final Cut is worse than A Momentary Lapse of Reason or even the Division Bell is nuts. I would not say the Final Cut is their best album but it is a collection of finely crafted songs that spark emotion even if much of it is dark. It does not sound like the rest of Pink Floyds records but then again, either does the Wall. The Division Bell does not sound like the older albums either, particularly 'Coming Back to Life'. But isn't that the whole point? Aren't musicians supposed to grow and keep mixing things up to keep things fresh? The Final Cut may not be to everyones tastes but it is if nothing else genuine. Roger Waters means these songs and that comes through loud and clear on the record. The two Pink Floyd records that followed were manufactured around the idea of what the producers believed the audience expected a Pink Floyd record to sound like. The songs in many cases sound incinsere and lacking depth. Much of the scorn wrought on that record is poured by guitar heads and Gilmour worshipers who expect all Pink Floyd music to be a recreation of Comfortably Numb. The worst track on the record is the embarrassing 'Not Now John'. The one track where Gilmour was at the forefront. Rick Wright had become a drug addict and would show up to sessions high and unable to contribute. He was not working on parts of his own and those he did have found themselves reserved for his solo stuff. As much as I respect his contribution to Pink Floyd, at that point he was just someone who was hanging around which irritated Roger since he was mourning for the band he used to have but were no longer performing. Pink Floyd had become their way of picking up their pay check. Waters definitely handled it badly, but the others have never taken responsibility for the break up themselves publicly. Evidence of this can be seen on AMLOR tour where a fill in drummer and keyboard player were provided for both Wright and Mason since they had both become so rusty they could not hold the show up on their own. Gilmour became the controller as soon as Waters was gone and the other too just played along as they always had.

this interview was conducted at the time of Rick's album BROKEN CHINA, late '96 or early '97 ...... wish that info was in the title as it wasn't clear until about 11 minutes in.
Rick was certainly a stabilizing force when Syd was going downhill & Dave was getting up to speed in '68, every single was dominated by his voice & keyboards, not enough credit to Rick for that period. Broken China & Wet Dream are great albums, they need to get the remaster treatment. To not remaster all albums by all Pink Floyd members should be a crime...

Richard Wright was the one Pink Floyd real sound, no one gave it a more distinctive & unique seal to the band record after record.
A great interview, indeed. I believe everything he says. He seems like such an honest individual and a true musician. The interviewer and host sounds like my ex and her mannerisms are like hers too. Judging from one of the images I saw in the intro video for this show, they may even be from the same place. What a unique world.

Michael Ellis Yes, I think Broken China is great too. Takes a bit of listening to get into though - it's a real shame Rick did get a chance to make another album. He was a huge part of the Floyd sound for me and seemingly an extremely humble and nice man.

The clips from The Wall played over and over again during this interview are very unfitting. They should have used more Pink Floyd music from this era combined with Rick's solo stuff. Glad I'm not alone in feeling this way!

It is easy to decide what you like most about Pink Floyd. Just listen to a Waters solo effort, and a Gilmour one. The former I find almost impossible to listen to, and the later almost impossible to stop listening to. To me, the best of the band is when Wright and Gilmour are doing their thing together, with a production quality second to none.
Essa entrevista do Rick para a Bruna Lombardi foi tensa, pra não dizer até certo ponto constrangedora. Ela não estava pronta para entrevistá-lo, mas ele foi muito gentil e fez o melhor que pôde. Estranho pensar que o Rick não é mais deste mundo. Foi dessa entrevista que saiu uma das frases mais icônicas dele, quando ela afirma que ele era uma estrela do rock e ele diz que discorda, que ele não se achava uma estrela do rock. Que ele era, de fato, o tecladista do Pink Floyd, e que o Pink Floyd era muito maior que isso. Uau! Logo na sequência também as coisas que ele diz sobre eles não agradarem as gravadoras e nem mesmo os fãs. Lembro que quando ele morreu David disse que não existiria mais Pink Floyd sem Rick. No entanto, houve Pink Floyd sem o Roger. Que história! Apesar dos momentos tensos vale a pena ver a entrevista com certeza, até como um momento de nostalgia daqueles tempos, daquele mundo que não existe mais. Outro ponto negativo foram os cortes e montagens sem noção do editor.

Gdaňsk...HIGH HOPES live version, especially the end acoustic part,is one of my favorite songs of all time.
The interviewer should have talked about Ricks sound within the band and how it changed over the life of the band.
