Lovely version. Weird to say but I don't think Bowie gets enough for credit for just how good his voice is. Rarely misses a note, great range and absolutely unique.
I think his vocal Peak were the mid 70's. But his tone was so matured and rich during the Hours,Heathen and Reality Era. It's probably my favorite voice
Everyone always talks about what a musical genius he was and rightfully so, but I rarely hear anyone say how beautiful his voice was. He sounded better live than on the record and the emotions in his voice would send a chill through you. He was the whole package and they'll never be another.
The studio version is by far better. The piano score by Rick Wakemen and Bowie could hit those high notes so well when he was younger. With this version he has to adjust what he just can't hit anymore. Not an insult. It's just what happens as a singer gets older. To me this version sounds like it's from a Broadway play or something.
I think at the core of all his talents, he was an actor - and they say the best singers are also good actors. So when he was performing live, he was interpreting the song in the moment and I think for that reason the live recordings have a real passion in them, real emotion...
But all the crazy personas and showy makeup are the real him too, it's part of his personality. He was an oddball and I mean that in the best possibly way
Nonsense he was the self proclaimed overrated cracked actor.....his words not mine. How old are you....16? I'm 64 was a fan at 15....every genre he had he STOLE

@@MikeGarsonProductions Well, well, well! The Maestro himself! :) You're more than welcome, Mike. I've always loved your playing. Who were the people that you were listening to and studying when you were developing your own style? (This just goes to show that you never can tell who's likely to see a comment. Think carefully before you post, folks!)
Excellent, indeed. Just got here via searching for Aladdin Sane sheet music, thus to searching for Mike Garson, to his 22 Sept 2020 Tweet which referenced a posting of this very video. Here we are. Thanks Mike.
Bowie didn't give himself enough credit for his beautiful voice. I've seen several interviews where he says he isn't a good singer, never had been. I wish I could tell him I beg to differ. I love hearing him sing!
I spent my youth listening to him alone in the basement. Imagining what I would tell him IF I ever got the chance... THEN walking to see the Elephant man which he started in. Opened in Chicago. I'm walking as a young adult and crossing the street a limo turns with us walking. The thing dies and when the driver tried to start it it wouldn't turn over. As SOON as it didn't start the rear door pops open and he walks out crossing the street JUST ahead of me!!!! I turn to my THEN wife and say that's Bowie. NO THATS AN IMITATOR. Idiots! I walk to intercept him and just as I'm ready to say Mr. Jones.... she SCREAMS, DAVID BOWIE!!!!! He turns and runs and there I am. 10 feet away.... gone! Ran to the theater and I am not chasing...... I'll NEVER forget that. God rest her soul.....
One of the best chord progressions ever, the piano work is just phenomenal and Davids voice is full of emotions and passion.Music doesn't get any better than this.
Brad Cox Nicked from My Way...? He was the first person to do an arrangement from the French original; even though he said it was crap When he heard my way he was annoyed nobody told him...this was his reply ..
If Bowie isn't already an artist you can identify right away, then so is Mike Garson. His piano playing is always crisp, clean and imaginative. No wonder David stuck by him for decades (and always paid him very well!).
+Forlani True, true, true: Bowie, so young and already so brilliant... It seems as if many geniuses started out young. Andrew Loyd Webber wrote JCS at 19! And lets not even start on Mozart..wrote masterpieces around age 9 I believe...
Isn't music a field that most people excel in when they are young? Music and math and athletics. Most other fields you get to your peak when you are older?
There has never been ... and never will be ... anyone like Bowie. His awesome work will stand the test of time and it will still be valid for thousands of years to come. His artistic legacy to the world is immeasurable. A fantastic genius who enriched our lives with his unique music together with his contributions to fashion, style, theatre, lifestyle and Art. Just one Bowie.

I love this kind of very little vibrato in his voice. Like something little broken. It brought him such a sensitive voice. 😍❤He was certainly a Martian, but I 'm sure he would have laughed hearing us saying that. 😊

This is Bowie The Singer. A fine fine rare performance. Thank you for posting. Here he sings absolutely add straight, no characters or affectations. I love it. Really shows his passion and range. Mr Jones, I love you. Your lyrics framed my life. One song, in the end, got me thru my daughter's death. God bless you forever wherever you are.

"as they ask me to focus on". This video is so freaking surreal. It's like its truth has just been compounded on his life. like the prophesy of a child slowly coming to fruition over time in a man's life. It's eerie. same here. Consider still myself very lucky to have seen REM perform live just before they´ve split...

he has a powerfull vibrato too

yes.
I agree and that's truly incredible considering how some voices seem to deteriorate with the age (@bob Dylan)
He sings his lyrics tryn so hard to get you to feel.

So right
Strange thing is that his voice was better at live versions than in the studio ones.
Not always.
To be fair, the lives are in a lower register (key) than the album versions, plus recorded with more modern equipment.
Fernando Graça yes always
