    A tribute site to the Festival Au Desert by Joe Conte
    The Festival Au Desert is held every year in the North of Mali, usually in Essakane, two hours from Timbuktu; sometimes directly at Timbuktu. It is organized by AITMA and EFES Associations together with Essakane Production. This festival seeks its origin in the big traditional Touareg festivities, as Takoubelt in Kidal and Temakannit in Timbuktu, which represented for a long time a place for decision making and exchange of information among the different communities. At the beginning, there were songs and touareg dances, poetries, camel rides and games

    I took a African Ancestry DNA test which states I am 100% Mali from the Taureg tribe in Northern Mali! I want to visit Northern Mali one day to meet the people from my ancestral tribe. The more I research the Taureg tribe in Mali I find out they are strong warriors, rebels, survivors who are willing to fight for their land, independence and freedom. I inherited my love for singing; music and song writing from my ancestral tribe! I blessed to have ancestral relations to the Taureg People! I am proud of the Taureg People!

      I don't wanna be unpolite, I am grateful for everything I have in Europe..But I just miss the desert so much... sometimes it feels like the heart physically aches. I can't do nothing against being homesick.. I become depressive without the sun. Seariously. Unfortunately there's nobody to visit anymore. I don't speak Arabic very well either..which is so embarrassing 🤭😔 But I never give up learning.

    This was lovely to see. Starting at 1:16 we see these four people before the musicians. The fluidity and the naturalness of its gestures, are really pleasant to see. And this illuminates the heart. We can literally feel the warmth of these Tuareg people. Thank you for sharing. It is that these districs are currently unsafe and traveling there is not recommended. it is even advised against. And that pains me. I myself would really love to go there and visit a festival like this. I feel very attracted to these people. .

      When I go, I do go with a purpose. The situation of these people is heartbreaking. The war, the drought, the discrimination is tearing them apart. Recently I have watched Behind the Blue Veil and the Orphans of the Sahara of which there are three parts broadcasted by Aljezeera and can be found here on youtube. Aside of the terrorism which appears to be the necrosis to this world, it appears that all the beautiful things in this world is disappearing. i have talked to some Imuhagh people who were willing to update me on this situation. The fun and the experience is one thing, but personally I work to get deeper into the matter itself. It is said that hardship begets the greatest of warriors and if a people know hardship for thousands of years it is them. But this suffering is UNNECESSARY. it is an extremely difficult situation due to all these parties involved. But directing the blame will not be the solution. Giving aid however will.

      The tuareg women & the ethiopian women have a bit same style on singing. I can't understand that cultural similarity, when the geography of Africa "has another opinion" between these two nations. Even the imzad & the masinko violons have the same sound, except of their basement string. On imzad the base is the RE, on masinko is the DO.

    • @teddyissak2720
      @teddyissak2720 Před 2 lety

      The Sahel is practically a Transit route. Many tribes travel across this region, hence cultural exchange and custom bargain is expected. There are distance traders and nomadic tribes who pass back and forth. Hajj pilgrims from west Africa used to pass via metema (north western part of Ethiopia), There are some Hausas who settled there hundreds years ago they have now been fully integrated in to the society, so you might guess what was happening thousand years ago.
