  • Full of watercolour, casein, liquid charcoal mixed media landscape sketches. This Khadi watercolor square format sketchbook tour covers 14 November 2021 to 26 January 2022, and contains lots of plein air adventures with my dog Basil.
    All of the sketches are made en plein air (outdoors on location) in all weathers and in a variety of landscapes. I visited creeks, woodlands, muddy fields and farm tracks.
    Let me know what you think! All the best - Andrew

    Thank you for sharing! It's a beautiful collection of sketches! I have a tendency to get tight with my sketches and I find yours inspiring! It's true that when doing plein air, having a time limit because it's either getting cold or it's about to rain makes you come up with shortcuts to try and represent what's in front of you and that can lead to some very interesting marks. And liquid charcoal is definitely one of the materials I discovered this past year I REALLY enjoy en plein air too! Glad to see another enthusiast! I have a brand new Khadi Sketchbook I haven't tried yet, can't wait to put those two together, all though it's too cold for plein air where I am (Montreal) and will likely wait for the Spring. Looking forward to more sketchbook tours. I hope you have a fruitful and safe 2022!

      Hi Glenda
      thank you so much for your kind comments. We are lucky that it doesn't get too cold here very often. Water based media would freeze! Liquid charcoal is a recent discovery for me and I really love it. Khadi is a lovely paper and I love the fact it is made from recycled cotton clothing.
      Best wishes
      Andrew

  • @RobertJonesWightpaint

    I could happily frame many of those sketches of yours and put 'em up on the wall just as they are. You probably take them home to base a 'proper' painting on them, but I'd like them just as they are. The only thing that annoys me about your videos - and it's not your fault! - is that you can squelch your way through muddy farm tracks, and crouch & kneel - and I can't! Age and walking stick, basically.... I'd love to be fit enough again to get out there in the wind, rain and mud and sketch away like a mad thing, but - well, I'm still a mad thing, but such exercise is beyond me.
    Never mind, I can still have pleasure looking at your work; and admiring the sterling patience of Basil.

      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  Před rokem

      Thank you so much Robert. I’m sorry for your age related ailments. Basil has slowed up quite a lot over the last year as he gets older.
      I’ll continue to to climb fences and wade through mud as long as physically possible 😃

    Thank you ANDREW for taking the time out for this wonderful sketch book tour . Just the fact that you're out in all weathers ( tea rooms or not😊) adding to this you've shown us you're not afraid of experimenting with different mediums, is inspiring. I only wish that my dog is as happy as yours while putting marks on paper. 😁Cheers
