Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.
TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!
Our economy is struggling with uncertainties, housing issues, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and the pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.
With the euro losing value to inflation and other currencies gaining traction, uncertainty looms. Yet, many still trust in the dollar's perceived safety. Worried about my €420,000 retirement savings losing value, I seek alternative security for my money.
With my demanding job, I lack time for investment analysis. For seven years, a fiduciary has managed my portfolio, adapting to market conditions, enabling successful navigation and informed decisions. Consider a similar approach.
This is definitely considerable! Do you think you could suggest any professionals or advisors I can get on the phone with? I'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation.
@@BrianAlbert-hh3pi Just research the name Desiree Ruth Hoffman. You’d find necessary details to work with a correspondence to set up an appointment.
I appreciate it. After searching her name online and reviewing her credentials, I'm quite impressed. I've contacted her as I could use all the help I can get. A call has been scheduled.
The Tories shouldn't be receiving handouts from us, they should pull themselves up by the bootstraps and work for it
👏👏👏👏
Get on their bike, maybe?
Who's "us"? These are donations from members and special interest groups. It's pretty bootstrap in the world of politics since parties cant really make any money any other way. Unlike taxes, people can choose to support or not. Why are you framing it as if they are asking YOU to support them? As with all parties, they want support from those who support their ideology.

When donations are considered 'an investment' something is broken in the way Political Parties are funded. Perhaps it is time to rethink how political parties are funded because it is kind of disgusting.
Maybe change the voting-system, too?
Yes to both
The only countries that don't allow corporations or the rich to invest in candidates/parties are socialist countries: you know, the ones this channel among everyone else in the west call dictatorships. Our electoral system is democracy yes, but only for the rich.
It's legalized corruption

😂 They AREN'T running out of money THEY are running out of OTHER PEOPLE'S money.
Ironic, yes 😂
You could also say: the Tories have looked in their party bank-account and just found a note saying "there's no money left". They use that line often-enough on Labour! 🙃
Why would anyone donate to a political party than squandered other people’s money?
Indeed. Just like socialists.. irony of tories being socialist 😂
@@user-wj7cv9hb5j Capitalism is what Tories practiced.
@TheSuperPsychoKiller I guess you just don't get the meaning if irony. Hear that sound? Woooosh... that's my comment going over your head 🤣
I like how the phone guy complains about “lowering of ethical standards” while openly admitting to trying to buy Labour.
He hasnt donated though lol. Hes just not voting for a tory
He’s said he’s going to try to influence them. Best way to do that is to hold onto your money until they are about to make a decision and then tell them you’ll donate if they make the choice you want them to. Until their in government they aren’t making any choices that matter
@@WhichDoctor1 that still sounds bad and like “lowering of ethical standards” to me.

Labour have already been bought. Once Starmer started cosying up to Rupert Murdoch the writing was already on the wall
‘Doners don’t want to back a bad investment’ - WHY ARE THESE OBVIOUS BRIBES NOT CALLED BRIBES?!?
Indeed. Why do unions bribe Labour?
@@randvegeta
You DO realise that unions are democratic institutions comprising millions of people who have a voice on union policy?
Can you see the difference between that and rich individuals?
Probably not, you don't strike me as that intelligent.
@@randvegeta They don't, block voting is a thing of the past.
@@StevenPenas What's the difference between business special interest groups or unions?
Sure, unions are "democratic" but so too are companies. If 40% of the members of a union supports a party that isn't labour, labour are still getting their money.
I'm all for banning corporate donations, but we should ban union donations too.
@@boota1979 According to this TLDR video, the majority of Labour's donations come from unions.
those four pledges of reform are horrifying. repealing the human rights act?? removing racism and sexism from discrimination acts?!?? HORRID
They are certainly scary. The main things stopping me from voting for them. I worry what Farage would achieve without limits like those.
Reform is where people go when the toruses are not despicable enough. It is heart breaking how many people are being drawn in by reform misdirection
The fact that in the UK ultra-rich individuals can "donate to" (i.e. "buy") politicians anonymously and without limitations - that is undemocratic.
Yep, legalized bribery, just like the US. Good ol’ democracy…
It's not unlimited, and beyond a certain amount it's not anonymous.
Thank God it's all recorded then. Hence this video is possible.
Americans: "First time?"
@@matthewbentley1236 "It's not unlimited, and beyond a certain amount it's not anonymous."
Yes, technically it is declared, but what is not declared is what the parties offer in return for all that lovely money, because you can be sure these "donations" are not given without an expectation of a return on the investment.
*Who else is sick of hearing about the Tories? They are done for, we need to focus on the Red Tories replacing them!* 🇬🇧🇪🇺
Sunak should ask his wife to raise his allowance.
Came here for this comment
Wait so the ReformUK received 742,000 but 500,000 of that is from a SINGLE company owned by the chairman of the party? And without that donation, they would be behind the Tories?
Yeah I was looking for this comment as soon as I heard that. Surely that money shouldn't count?
Well Rishi didn't manage to make his wife or his father-in-law to shell out, so they are where they are. Probably because even he understands that it's a bad investment right now )))
"the party of financial responsibility" xD
Let's just call it what it is. If you're donating over 200,000 pounds, that's a bribe.
Tories ran out money, but potholes are getting widespread. Such irony
Odd, given him and his wife are worth nearly £700m that they cannot find any money 🤷🏻♂️
I love how blasé we discuss the utter corruption of our politics system. Lobbying and donations like this should be illegal!
What, the guys with all the lying, theft, sedition, embezzlement, incompetence, and fraud, are struggling to hold onto their money? Wow, why could that possibly be?!
Their candidates have probably spent most of it at the bookies! 🙃
No person or company should be able to donate more than £100 a year to political Parties.
If you want to contribute more than that you can volunteer
This would certainly benefit right wing parties most. Labour are owned by the unions.
While I agree with the idea of getting "big money" out of politics, isn't the alternative then just publicly-funded parties? And how much extra tax would that add? 🤔
tories would make a ton of shell companies for that
The alternative would be to put legal limits on the amount of money that can be spent by political parties.@@dftfire
@@randvegetaunions just organise for their members. So each donation could be itemised per person. Where as the Tory's get their money from big individuals.
How on earth does your logic even work that Labour would be worse off?
if only Rishi had rich friends or relatives....
Bet the Tories were wishing they had that magic money tree now.
why would the tory sugar daddies pay into a sinking ship? they never back a losing bet and will come back to the Tories once they see it as a profitably asset again.
The Tories: "It couldn't get any worse"

A return to Steven Byers "cab for hire" mentality.
Why can't they do what they always did: befriend a representative in government, tell them they can supply PPE, then receive money with no strings attached?
Donations to political parties should be made illegal.
Especially here in the U.S.
I don’t quite agree. I agree in principle but I think ordinary private citizens like you or I ought to be able to give up to perhaps £100 to a party in a year, because many ordinary people truly believe in an idea and want to be able to donate and then it becomes a thing of whoever gets more support gets more money, but big donations from big business like this should absolutely be banned. They’ll need more state funding then, which is fine if it stops our politics being owned by about 100 or so rich people.
Democracy wouldn't exist if it was fair
Why?
@@michaelh13 Because it forces political parties to cater to the needs of large investors. Because if they don't then the large investors won't donate and they will be at a disadvantage compare to other parties.
I'd be wary of celebrating a neutered opposition. The last 14 years showed us what happens when a party gets complacent because there's no effective challenger.
Hopefully not a massive majority this time, not looking forward to another round of austerity
The real issue here is the cactus. So close to falling off the shelf!
Governments just do the bidding of their donors!
This is not democracy!
Half of their MPs are billionaires, they don't need campaigning funding or donations, just ask their own members
Rishi alone is richer than the King
There's only 50 odd UK dollar billionaires.
So don't think there are 150+ Tory MP £ billionaires

I object to the term “supermajority” there is no such term in UK politics and this could be misleading
thisss
The Tories putting a special word onto Labours lead makes it sound scary, the media are mimicing it like they have done countless other times and it's stupid little scaremongering tactics that caused both the failure in Scottish Independence and Brexit.
"Supermajority" means >2/3, just as "majority" means >1/2. I don't see how it can be misleading.
The conservative party is warning people for a supermajority, but there is litteraly no difference between that and a majority.
@@randomguy-tg7ok And other countries need a supermajority to change their constitution. The uk doesnt have any need for a supermajority
Its pretty simple. If you are lobbying then why give money to the losers.
I’ll never understand why people think camping donations are an exclusively American phenomenon or legalised bribery
Name one thing the Tories have done in the last 14 years that has benefitted the people of England.
Raise the income tax threshold to £12,570/yr.
The raise hasn't been in line with inflation so we've actually lost money.
@@JasonAtlas Personal tax allowance was 6,475 under Labour in 2009. So it increased by 6,095 (94%).
Inflation over the same period has been 55%, so it's actually outpaced inflation A LOT.
Minimum wage was also raised from 5.8/hr to 11.44. An increase of 5.64/hr (97%).
So it absolutely is the case that the lowest paid workers are better off. Higher minimum wage, higher tax free allowance IN REAL TERMS. I know it doesn't feel like it but it is actually true.
Edit: Even house prices arent significantly outpacing minimum wage and the tax free allowance increases. 124K in 2009 vs 280K in 2024 (125%). But this is off the back of a recession when house prices were at significant lows. Comparing to the 2007 peak prices of ~150k, and again we're up only 87%. Measuring from the peak, as opposed to the trough, minimum wage and allowance even outpaces home price growth. So those at the bottom are closer today to home ownership than they were under Labour in the 2000s.
Brexit ?
Reduced immigration ?
Decreasing racism ?
@@ajx9747If you think Brexit was a success then have we been living in the same country?
Immigration has gone up
And racism is not an easily measured statistic so nobody can really say whether it has gone up or down (although I do personally agree we have become less racist, I feel that it is not because of the Tories but rather because of campaigning groups like BLM)
The news is not that Tories have less money, it's that rich people are now supporting the supposed workers' party of Labour.
Can you push the catcus on the shelf in? The overhang is giving me anxiety and now it is all I can see.
Oh god, I can't unsee it now
How is giving funding with the explicit intention to make a politician change their policies not illegal???
Nigel Farage is the kid screeching “I have the power of god and anime on my side”, Sunak better watch out
TORIES have completed transfer of Britain into 3rd World Country in record short time
they managed the decline rather well until they decided to start selling the stuff that was nailed down too
It's about the same time as Thatcher and John major took to destroyed the UK, around 15 years it took them and again another 15 years now and the tories do the same
@@Carl-hs420aausterity, Brexit, mismanagement of covid, and Trussonomics all accelerated the decline.
To be fair, the Tory candidates will do just fine with all the winnings from their bets
Sunak is richer than the King, he hardly needs to learn any new skill to find a job since he does not need to find a job at all.
I'm liking the new presenter's voice, very clear and professional. Great addition!
They need to stop with the Netflix and avocado on toast.
What has gone wrong for the tories? What hasn’t, is the answer
So basically all the donors that have influenced the Tory party for the past 14 years have now switched to influence Labour. Ill be absolutely shocked if anything at all changes.
Oh this just keeps getting funnier. Maybe they could chip in with their betting winnings?
Who needs the Conservative party when you've got Sir Kier Starmer leading a supposed Labour party?
That's Sir Keir Starmer
They cant manage the country and they cant manage their finances. Simples. And Sunaks wife needs to put her hands in her pocket...
This is essentially a form of gambling. Betting on the winner to get a return on that “investment” later through government contracts
Kudos to whomever turned up the mic on this young lady
this is also why Labour is moving right
THEY'RE running out of money?!... I doubt they'll ever have to be put on the doll!
The individuals will be fine I'm sure, this is just the Party pockets, they're not going to use their own money for that ...
they would still claim it though!
They have ran out of money because the gravy train is over.
No point in bribing a party for golden handshakes when that party will lose.
It should be open public knowledge who the Doners are and everytime a law or deal comes in that directly benefits the donor it should also be public knowledge.
Imagine politicians having to wear name sponsorships on their clothing like football teams.
Couldn't Sunak's wife just give them some pocket change?
No point in bribing (donating) to people who won't be able to "do you a favour" in two weeks time.
They gambled all of it.
Sorry, I was just astonished by how small the overall numbers are here, I’m an American so $6 million is what I’m used to our parties spending on an election for a local school board chair in a medium sized city.
Labour: "Look at me, I am the Tories now."
Thank you for your coverage this is scary
It's a business decision. The Tories understand that. I think.
"whey they pay, they buy you, then they have you do their bidding" - god help us with these lobbyists/donators...
Each political party should be given the same amount of tax payers money to fund elections. Make donations illegal.
You have to ask yourself what these multimillionaire donors think they are getting for their money. There is a clear conflict of interest in political parties accepting this kind of donation.
It’s over now. Let’s put them to bed.
That transition into the Brilliant segment 😂
The same happened in the 97 when the tories lost to Labour, many of the major tori donators pulled out of the party
The solution is simple: the party who is in government recieves most donations, and since Labor is about to be in government they get donations now
It’s so funny how rishi can fund this out his own pocket but never will
I'm always concerned as to that strings and favours are attached to these "donations" parties receive...
As long both red and blue don't get in I'm happy. Vote reform.
Well done
Thanks :)
It’s so odd and jarring as an American learning about other countries campaign contribution limits. 4 million is what a single congressional candidate will raise in a competitive district
Just remember, while you work hard at work, the money you make is lining the pockets of these individuals calling the shots on what the big parties can do.
Maybe a stupid question but where do this donations go? What are they used for?
7:21 This cracks me up every time! Georgina is so happy to throw shade at "Rishi & Co." 🤣
8:02 “say you are eyeing up to move to California to get into tech”

FPTP doesn't have a super majority, but you all know that. No one gets "Super first" when they win a race.
They talk about super majority in the parliament, which means in having two-thirds of MPs. In the US, that is important because it allows you to pass constitutional amendments, but in the UK it's just a very large majority.
All the money moving from Tory to Labour as soon as a Labour win seem certain. It's obvious these "donors" aren't giving their money based on their principles if they can so easily flip from one party to another, the reason Tory and Labour feel exactly the same is because it's the exact same wealthy individuals supporting both sides depending on who is winning and forcing through their own policies.
I'd expel those 4 people who took £5k in exchange for saying that they will uphold the 4 key pledges that the reclaim party stands for. Surely, this is illegal and against the rules of standing in the electoral commission? If you go and support another party then its dismissal. So why arent those 4 sacked
So in other words labor has finally sold out to large donors.
Didn't that happen under Blair?
@@dftfire It started under Blair but its reaching new heights under Starmer

No one wants to back a losing horse.
Rishi is a near Billionaire. He could spaff £50M and fund an incredible Tory campaign and still be richer than the King himself
Those campaign donation numbers seem quaint compared to the free-for-all the US allows for.
Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty have a combined net worth of 810 millon dollars.
If Sunak actually cared about winning, he could easily find the cash between his wife and other wealthy friends. Even their prime minister doesn't believe in the tories anymore.
I'm surprised, knowing they grew up without a lot of things people take for granted, like Sky TV...
Wealthy business owners shouldn't hold such influence over our elections. Private money should not be involved in democracy.
