    70-200 is my favorite lens. I do tons and tons of high-end graduation photos, and this lens rarely leaves me desiring anything else. Occasionally I’ll use my 16-35 or 35 1.4 for some wider shots or more storytelling images, but this lens is the one I could never live without. The compression and bokeh really are magical

      Hi Owens! I also do grad portraits, but unfortunately not as many as I would like. My current lead flow is from word of mouth, and I get maybe 10 a year.
      What do you recommend to help me gain more leads and serve a lot higher volume of graduates? I have a goal of 100.
      Thank you in advance!! 🙏🤩

    I've used a hybrid approach, where I use a Fuji 16-80 f/4 (24-120 equiv) on one body, and the Fuji 35 1.4 (52mm equiv) on a second body, it's been a huge game changer for me.

    I’ve been trying to create my own “trinity” of lenses both for personal and professional use. I can only afford 3, and 2 of them are already the 15-35 2.8 and the 50 1.2 with me considering the 70-200 as the third. This was super helpful to help get a feel for the lens rather than just reading spec sheets.

    Very nice video. Back when I shot Canon I used the 70-200mm f2,8 IS II for all my shoots and coupled with a fast prime like the 50mm f1,2 or 85mm f1,2 it made a great combo. I shoot Fuji now and the one thing I miss the most it the 70-200mm. Fuji´s 50-140mm f2,8 is nowhere near to it in image rendering. It´s sharp but the separation from the background is rather weak compared the the 70-200. Glad to hear the RF 70-200 is so good. When/ if I decide to go back to Canon I know what I want :)

    Very nice video Zach. Super classy as usual. I was curious as to what you'd think about using this lens for theatre, cause I'm also in the opera business and take rehearsal photos with the EF version on the EOS R, which is a heavy combination! Unfortunately, neither the R6 nor the R5 are for me for different reasons so I'm staying with the R, biding my time till the Mark II's arrive and focusing on lenses like this RF 70-200. Time to sell the EF I think! 😊

      @@novainvicta I held on to my EF 85 1.4. It's a great lens and it does have a different look than the RF 85 1.2. I do miss owning the EF 85 1.2 II but that lens was so slow to focus.

  • @PanzerIV88
    @PanzerIV88 Před 2 lety

    I got this lens since 1 year for my R6, and I agree it is the best RF lens for sure and best 70-200 ever. Night and Day difference with the super old (EF 70-200 F4 IS USM MKI) I had before. That combined with a 24-70mm F2.8 and the RF (Samyang 85mm F1.4) is my current combo to cover every range with wide aperture.
    The only complain is of course the super high price but there's no other competitor for this lens, unlike other focals where you can get a third party lens as good and sometime even better than the official Canon lens.

      @@TheZachMendez because it excels with portraits that are posses. On the internet they sell you this idea that posing is wrong. That being said currently environmental portraits are the “in thing” which is great! For that we use 35 1.4s and 50 1.2s etc. the 70-200 is best at 200 2.8 that’s where it shines it’s magic is not environmental it’s in isolation. Let me give you a heads up on some lenses you need to try you can make a video about these if you wanted too. Canon 200 1.8! It’s an amazing lens and with the image stabilization of the current cameras it’s brilliant wil need to use eye detect. Canon 135 f2 one of canons best portrait lenses has some of the best character ever. You can rent them.

      Try renting it. I have the R as a backup/secondary camera to my r6. I would much rather use my R6. The R is fine when a subject is pretty still and you aren't in a challenging environment but the r6 is an all around performer. With photography, it's so good, it pretty much gets out of your way so you can create.

      Thanks so much for the kind words, Bjorn! I made a video on the 85 a couple months ago - wow, what an incredible lens that is! For me I think the 70-200 makes a bit more sense, but I would love to use the 85 again.
      In my studio the setup is actually pretty simple. C-Stand + weight, Profoto B10 (could really substitute any flash head), + deep umbrella (I have both silver & white, prefer the white) sizes 41', 51', 65' + diffusion. The back drop is just savage seamless paper and the support is from Manfrotto. I think that's about it. Hope this helps & thanks for watching :)

I already have a 50mm lens or 70 - 200mm zoom lens for my Nikon so I will probably go after the 85mm prime and the 100-500mm zoom when it becomes available over here. @Zach Mendez; I’m trying to decide between the F4 & F2.8 RF 70-200. I am going to be taking pictures of my toddler and family in environments such as forest trails, indoor recreation centres, arenas and some outdoor sports (toddler for now). I’m assuming that these are similar to a lot of environments that you have to take photos in with regards to lighting quality. There probably won’t be much difference between F4 & F2.8 in subject separation when I’m in more open type environments because the subject will be further away for sports or environmental portrait type photos. I’m on a Canon R6 and if I get the 70-200 F4 version I think I’d upgrade my EF 24-70 F4 to the RF 2.8 version. Any input would be appreciated!

      Hard to say! I know that both versions are great. The f/4 is quite compact too. But I enjoy having the extra light gathering capabilities of the wider aperture. I think it is hard to go wrong either way with this lens. Thanks for watching :)

    • @TheZachMendez
      @TheZachMendez  Před 2 lety +3

      Great question. For me, the 70-200 is much more useful & worth it. I don't think I could justify paying that much for a prime lens at the 85 mm focal length, despite how amazing the RF 85 is! I might change my mind one day. For now I feel like the 70-200 is more than enough.

    What I really miss is the possibility to manually correct the focus, just before nailing the right shot. EF lenses had this possibility; in RF they decoupled the focus ring when in autofocus :(

    It is a shame that the RF 70-200mm f2.8 lens is NOT compatible with a 1.4 teleconverter. It is NOT an internal zoom lens as the lens barrel extends when zooming. I used the EF 70-200mm f2.8 for at least 17 years & never had an issue with it.

    Want BOKEH, versatility and compression.
    100L is enough, but I want better image's by lenses.
    Magic of 50-85 1.2-1.4 (extremely wide aputure) is the possibility for make amazing BOKEH in close distance without need to go far back.
    85 1.4 is shorter and more comfortable, but this lens only for portraits in low light.
