- After 2 whole years of me being in Cambridge, my family was FINALLY able to visit me from Singapore!!! The entire experience of them being in Cambridge and the UK was so surreal to me - I had to constantly pinch myself to make sure it was actually happening 💛😭 Cambridge formals, I think, are an essential part of the 'Cambridge Experience' so I was very keen on bringing my family to one. Unfortunately my college doesn't do formals outside term time, but I was very lucky to reach out to a student from Homerton who said their formal date coincided with the dates my family was in Cambridge!
In classic Indian fashion, my parents took pictures of EVERYTHING and everyone with everything (my brother posing with the Homerton roses 😂) and found Indian equivalents to all the non-Indian food we were served 😆 My parents don't drink much, and this was the first time my brother and I were drinking in front of them - talk about milestones 🫢 The few hours before this formal were a bit chaotic and rushed, and we were having an argument as a family - but it all settled during the dinner and felt very wholesome 🥰 Also we normally don't have dinner together as a family, which made this whole experience extra special ✨

welcome to Homerton. Your parents gave such good advice. I'm looking forward to bringing my own parents to a formal as well. And yes, Homerton is generous when it comes to alcohol! We all love Lord Simon, our principal. As a Malaysian, it's always nice to meet a singaporean at cambridge.
