"In the wake of Texas’ abortion ban, the state’s infant death rate increased and more died of birth defects, a study published Monday shows.
The analysis out of Johns Hopkins University is the latest research to find higher infant mortality rates in states with abortion restrictions.
The researchers looked at how many infants died before their first birthday after Texas adopted its abortion ban in September 2021. They compared infant deaths in Texas to those in 28 states - some also with restrictions. The researchers calculated that there were 216 more deaths in Texas than expected between March and December the next year."*

The Young Turks are fearless in talking about the issues that matter. We are a rare show that combines all of the news that people care about in one place. We cover politics, entertainment, sports, and pop culture; all through a progressive lens.
What does it mean to be a “Young Turk?”
According to the American Heritage Dictionary;
1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party.
2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations.
"Sharp-witted, persuasive, and inspiring, calling out toxic Republicans, politely-ineffectual Democrats, and mealy-mouthed media mavens in equal measure, JUSTICE IS COMING will give heart to Democrats and progressives who seek to change our politics and society for the better.
The media can’t stop talking about the gridlock in Washington, as if a handful of stubborn Republicans are the only thing standing between us and a fully-functional democracy. The reality is that our government has been taken over by big business and their allies in both political parties. The getaway driver in this heist was corporate media. The good news is that the American people are very progressive. And soon progressives will take over Washington as well! And when they do, the great majority of Americans will love it.
In JUSTICE IS COMING: How Progressives Are Going to Take Over the Country and America Is Going to Love It (On sale: September 19, 2023), The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur presents two ideas that counter everything we hear from pundits and politicians on a daily basis: one, progressives are correct on all issues, and two, America is actually a very progressive country. Millions of us know that we are a part of something larger, a movement that is already transforming Washington.
JUSTICE IS COMING, a compulsively readable manifesto, seeks to apply the momentum progressives have already built to a concrete progressive agenda that activists, voters, and citizens can all rally around. JUSTICE IS COMING looks beyond Trump to the larger historical forces that have given us this unique political moment, and explains why we should fight, how we should fight, and how we will win."

Absolutely and keeping the lower class in their place. Well to do women can state shop, lower class women are stuck having babies they may not be able to care for.

Don't forget the amount of suffering for the child and its mother when it is carried on just to die short after or even before birth, not to mention the danger for the woman who has her right to physical integrity.
I have an idea that might reverse this policy. If a fetus is now a person at conception and you know your child won't make it get an insurance policy for the fetus and collect at death. Corporations will hate this then the lawmakers will change the policy.

Then watch insurance companies try to deny life insurance to a fetus and immediately get sued.
@@Rayceltic you can't insure a fetus.

@Rayceltic oh, I'm not debating your premise, it'd work in a perfect world... but we're not talking about a perfect world... insurance companies are pulling out of states like California and Florida for home insurance because of climate change.

@@icebergrose8955 In case of doubt they fall back to:
a) there is no such thing as rape but only excuses by immoral women, and the 'rapist' is the real victim.
b) if a pregnancy results, it was consensual (quoting medieval medical authorities).
c) there is by definition no 'marital rape' since a husband has the right to impregnate his wife whether she wants it or not (case b naturally does not apply here, the uterus is naturally law-abiding and is aware of the marriage contract).
😶Omg, I'm not surprised, but I am shuddering inside.😔
A major flaw Republican right movement is they are only Republican until it affects them . There are conditions where the fetus can die and the mother can go into septic shock, and possibly die. Refusing to do an abortion when the baby won't survive birth, and may die in utero, increases the likely hood of this happening.

The whole law of criminalizing the termination of pregnancies is evil. A woman should be able to determine if she wants a child to be born to term. Care of any child is not guaranteed. The lawmakers, in this instance, choose to punish the mother and child. Ultimately care and well-being of the child or the mother is not a factor!

I think that they did not calculate that we could end up with less children.
Oh sh!t. I knew this would happen.
For those of you who are a part of the pro-life movement, have you considered joining the quality-of-life movement?
I mean, I’m more pro life than pro choice, but I’ve always supported things like maternity leave, and my views tend to lean more liberal overall. Things that concern me with current red states is people getting charged when they have miscarriages or getting denied care when their health is at risk. That’s obviously insane and needs to be stopped.
However, the stuff mentioned here, with denied abortion in cases of deformities, seems a bit strange to me. They act like deaths and grief from the loss of those lives went up, but parents that experience miscarriage also grieve, and their child still dies. The outcome isn’t different just because you end the child’s life in the womb rather than letting them live and seeing if they can defy the odds and make it. If you think about it, the overall lives surviving should go up in these cases because there are always people that beat the odds, no matter what doctors say. Thus, the deaths are only larger because they didn’t include fetal deaths in their count.

Women who have to deal with this should be able to sue Texas.
you'd think, but it's right-wing judges who have protected this insanity.
The Problems is, this is financially crippling. Now, you have to have a funeral for a baby, you knew was not going to live! also delivery of the baby, to die a month or two later and have a funeral you are now $20k in debt.
Those poor women and families are also going bankrupt from medical bills they may never pay or that tax payers will eventually pay!
The cruilty is the point.
Their attitude is that everybody's got the right to be born, but once you're here you take your chances with the rest of us.
And remember kids the right wing only believe in freedom when it extends as far as they want it to. No one can choose to do anything. Now you understand why dictionaries are so important
That's exactly what I thought was going to happen. Parents who doesn't want kids will neglect the child, parents murdering their unwanted kids after birth, women dying bc of miscarriages or bc of unviable fetuses...
Of course.
@@margaretcox4456It's so NOT pro life. It's anti choice and pro oppression. Pure control and cruelty, nothing else.
It’s not a “6 week ban” in Texas now. That was before Dobbs. Total ban now. They say there’s an exception for “life of the mother” but that’s not actually working, either.
What does it say about our "for-profit" healthcare that their decisions are based on THEIR welfare and not their patients'? And what does it say about us that we do not ask that question. Does a society that is dominated by self interest deserve doctors who are not?
I grew up there and got tf out. I told everyone that this would happened and protested in the Texas heat and voted.
I tried y’all I really did
The Texas GOP is funded by two far right billionaires who want to turn Texas into a Right Wing Theocracy.
There are documentation of women being pregnant for years with the dead fetus being calcified ( turned to stone like) .
