@@HurryKenProduction Oh well hello! That seems to be the general name I've seen those styles of horned string instruments be called based on the name of the guy that first made them.

@@thatrecord5313 Heh, I suppose it was silly of past me to not realize a lot of those old big band recordings likely had them too considering it was part of why the design was originally made.
But I guess there is some bit of difference, the violin is the star of the show in this song, while in the big band, it's just part of the whole. It's still pretty neat though the detail that group went to for that accurate look.

In the early 1970s there was a busker in King's Cross, Sydney, AUstralia with a cello-like instrumenet with a trumpet resonator attached like this. He played every evening by the El Alamein fountain there. A fun instrument limited only by the imagination of the player.

It's a Stroh violin. It was invented over a hundred years ago. It's not really a combined violin and trumpet: the horn is just an amplifier for the violin strings.

Experimental and genuine. This is amazing! I play the electric violin, and just to think attaching a trumpet to it would sound like this.

This isn’t experimental. It’s existed for over 100 years and was used for mechanical recording in studio.
This stroh violin was invented in 1899
