Childhood hero. Could watch him strike the ball all day. Very good at link up play too.
One of the best footballers in the history of Wales
One of the best footballers of the 80s in the English League
Manchester United Legendary Player
Sparky loved a volley and a bicycle kick and bursting the back of the net. He was a big game player too.
As a kid I based my game on Sparky and trust me, I was the best vollyer of a ball I know. Not bragging at all cos I learnt from the best in the business! And not only that but the way he did everything so smoothly. Just one of the reasons I love the world's game cos every player has their own way of playing it.
A fantastic first touch, he never gets credit for it but Ive not seen a CF with a better first touch under pressure than Hughes & he was ALWAYS in the thick of it, never looking to sneak into space. He terrified CBs with his aggression & his link up/set up/No.10 work for his strike partners & midfielders was second to none.
Shearer pushes him close but for me he the most complete British CF, the prototype Shearer was modelled on & he did it more difficult circumstances with the back pass, the off side rule favouring defenders & tackling from behind still allowed. Shearer came outa the end of that era so he was no daisy but 50% of Hughes career was in those difficulties & he did it at more top clubs in more countries than Shearer.
I don’t remember him ever being prolific but he did score some amazing goals.
A scorer of great goals more than a great goal scorer, but look at his record in semi finals & finals.
Nobody was better than Hughes when it mattered most, thats not saying his contemporaries Rush, Van Basten & the like weren't top class on the big occasion too, its saying that he was second to none at the silverware winning end of things.
Along with Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale, Ian Rush, John Charles and Gary Speed, the best Welsh footballers in history
You really think Speed was up there with Giggs, Rush, Hughes n Bale ?
monstrueux

Played three games with a broken ankle without even knowing seriously tough. Also look at the goals right left foot didn't matter.
