  • The Momentum Voya E+ 3 Review is a light weight road style electric bike with flat handlebar and potential for many utility upgrades. All-aluminum frame and fork includes mounting points for a front rack, rear rack, two bottle cages, and fenders! Available in three frame sizes, two colors, and high-step frame style. Efficient 250 watt planetary geared hub motor delivers up to 25nm of torque. The motor controller measures pedal cadence, pedal torque, rear wheel speed, and motor output to provide a natural responsive feel. The bike is fun to pedal even when it's unpowered, and the 9-speed drivetrain offers many comfortable cadence options. The battery pack is completely hidden inside the downtube, and not meant to be removed without tools. It offers 250 watt hours of capacity, and can power an optional headlight that Momentum sells. Compact fast charger offers 4 amps for quick refills, and only weighs 1.7lbs. Includes a two year warranty, sold through Giant Momentum dealers with good support. Ebike rated tires offer puncture protection and reflectivity for enhanced safety. Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors and adjustable reach levers stop well. No kickstand is included, the pedals are kind of basic, and the LED control panel provides very limited readouts. Bluetooth smartphone app for iOS and Android allows for trip planning, display brightness, Strava integration, and more. Optional remote button pad makes changing assist levels easier.

    This bike seems to be ideal for people who are dedicated road bike warriors but who may just want that extra oomph. Very stealthy, doesn't scream "EBIKE!", and still light and ride-able without power if one chooses. Thoughtful design for that particular demographic.

      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +2

      Right on Tom, and it’s interesting that they made the flat bar version that’s a bit less expensive. It’s a pretty cool platform in my opinion.

    The wonderful thing about these lighter e-bikes is that you can put them on a standard car bike rack.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s such a good point Jeff. Yeah, even though the battery is semi permanent in the frame, the bike is still easier to lift and transport since it’s fairly light. I own the Küat Sherpa aluminum platform rack for my car, and it’s a lighter smaller build. It’s nice to not overload it, so I usually just carry one bike at a time. I think it could handle two Voya E+ models. How about you, which rack do you have?

    I've loved the last couple releases from Momentum! Great review Court. About the motor cable positioning: aside from reducing clutter on the drive side, it also makes it easier to remove the cassette lockring or freewheel when the chain is over-worn and gears need replacing. Lockring tools require a slit with a drive side motor cable making them weaker and easier to strip!

    Cort is one of the original ebike reviewers and he really is a legend for all of us ebikers.
    Thanks Cort for years of great reviews! Would love to see one ebike verses a similar kind of ebike utube reviews. Like there is for smart phones. Example....this Momentum Voya vs Ride One Up Roadster. Two similar bikes. How do they compare?
    Is it possible that utube ebike reviews can take it up to another level?
    Especially since ebikes have gained such popularity in recent years.

      That’s a good suggestion! Possibly in the future I could do some comparisons. Since I don’t hold onto the bikes, and usually travel to see new ones, it can be difficult to have back to back real-time, but maybe I could edit two videos together and add commentary. Thanks Tom!

    Fantastic review as usual! Looks like a really fun, swift bike for paved rail trails or those fortunate to have smooth commute infrastructure. Unfortunately where I am in the mid west with our freeze/thaw conditions wide tires and/ or suspension is almost a must or else you'll end up with your brain scrambled due to our pot holes. :-)

      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, the bikes feel great when the terrain is right. I grew up in a town with snow, mountain trails, and some rough streets… and one year they re paved one of the main roads through town and I LOVED riding and rollerblading on it… then years later, they covered it with chip seal! Man, that was a bummer ;)

      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi L W, thanks! The glasses were called Oakley Jawbones. Because the lower part of the frame swivels open to swap lenses. I think they renamed them to Oakley Racing Jackets and are still selling them. I bought mine like 15 years ago when they allowed custom colors. Not sure if that’s possible still. I love how they are vented so they don’t fog up, and the clear lenses are good for overcast and night riding 😉

    Thanks for the review, I have a question. How did you feel the power delivery was? Was it always in proportion to the torque you apply to the pedals and was there any delay in the assist coming on? I have a Aventon Soltera and there is a very noticeable delay in the power coming in. Thanks.

    It's a cool bike! Got mine in July for $1500. Slapped on a rear rack and fenders and use it as a city commuter. By the way, Giant is now currently selling for only $1000 in the US. Wonder if they are clearing inventory before new releases!

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, I think Bosch ebike systems are rated IP56 to handle water and dust, not fully “water proof” but highly resistant. I wouldn’t submerge anything, and it’s best to gently wash vs spray, but rain should be fine from what I’ve experienced and heard. My Uncle owned a Haibike for years and rode pretty hard in rain, snow, and mountain bike trails and it held up great!

    You don't want a fast charger, it will kill the life cycle of the battery.
