- This E-bike has an absolute WHOPPER of a range claim 🤯
So the only way to truly test its capabilities is to travel across the U.K on a single charge until it runs out... But how far am I gonna get? 🤔
Join me as I put this bike to the ultimate test! 🚴🏻♀️💨
Thank you to Engwe for sending me this beast of a commuter to try!

Did your Nanrobot ls7 scooter have any battery issues?
It still has a very good range. Maybe if u added up the times you needed to push. More like 70 miles. But that's still good
127 km?!? On an e-bike? I NEVER thought I would see the day! Comparing the capabilities of this to what was available when the channel start, just a short 4 years ago, is mind boggling. The rate of improvements in battery technology is awe-inspiring. I am shooketh, in all the best of ways. And way to go Eilis!! Just a short while ago you were having troubles riding due to medical troubles and now you've conquered 78.9 miles... in one day! Phenomenal!
It's amazing isn't it. My wife has an emtb with a Bosch motor and she always gets over 120km from every charge. Obviously she doesn't use it on full power, but enough to able her to ride big rides with me. My mate also has a shimano in a Merida big tour, and he gets about the same distance in the middle support mode. Batteries are 625w/630w. Im always amazed at how far they can go.
Aww thank you so much!! You're right a few years ago I couldn't have DREAMED of cycling this far with my hip injury
And that's with a load on board (camera gear etc), using multiple assistance levels, not set for maximum performance.
@@peterhoz Yes, the lady has, perhaps, not fully understood the range claims. Look at the small, print for the test conditions - weight of rider (plus extras) and likely a level, paved road in just one of the power modes.
in places that arent flat you wouldnt get 30 miles from it
Love it!
Dad saved the day 🖖
Your dad rocks! 🤟
He truly is a fantastic man
@@eilisbarrett congratulations for having a dad like that
Wow, I'm from a farm and those were the most chilled cows I've ever seen! they didn't give a damn. My cows would get a fright and run off. So funny how they knew to leave a gap for people to walk through, like a gang who would mug you and take your bike 😅😅
I think they are used to hikers and bikers regularly making their way through their space. I used to farm too and cattle become accustomed to strangers when they regularly encounter them.
Also having a radio playing in the milking parlour or sheds makes them much more relaxed when strangers enter their space.
Talk to any vet and they will tell you that cattle that are not handled regularly or used to strangers can be very nervous and stressed and dangerous to be handled for treatment or testing.
I was honestly BRICKING IT! They were fantastic sports
Never has anyone looked so excited to get to Reading.
Yeah, much better when it's in the rear-view mirror!
This reminds me of the test ride i did in 2016 on my new ebike. I rode from my home to Blackpool North Pier, 52 miles, my battery died as arrived at south pier and only had a mile to ride without power. It was truly liberating to have that adventure, not worrying about getting stuck somewhere, knowing the bike power and range, and not feeling shot at the end as on a normal pedal bike.
But others commented he rides a real bike though, what do you say ??
Incredible work - what a feat!
I wonder how many people watch this channel don't even own an bike or have any interest in one but still watch anyways.
i watch this channel shes fit girl i dont have bike yet but been thinking of buying one
I have 3 bikes, yet none of them are electric. For me personally, assisted speeds are too low for them to make sense as it's just added weight, yet I'm happy to see people getting options to get their fat asses moving and leaving their fartmobiles at home.
I’ve learned a lot on this channel, not just about electric bikes, but about places, tech, chocolate fudge… Eilís is a gem 💎, and the rest of the team is also very watchable. I’d love to see more material (a bit like @fullycharged) but I understand that the team has day jobs too and logistical limitations (for example, testing cars is a non-runner because they don’t have secure parking).
But yes, I no longer have an e-bike, I want one because the one with most toys wins … but I don’t believe the north of England offers a suitable weather.
I watch from a different continent and I now know UK has a bikes issue which should be none of my concern.
_REALITY - 98% are simps here. I can assure you if Eillis doesn't show up in a video the Viewing gonna go down, and they should experiment with this😂_
@@Alessandro--- it's the same bad weather if you are walking. Wear appropriate clothing and you'll be fine. Especially on an e-bike where the assist will deal with headwinds and hills, a good bike poncho covers all of you and the bike and it's easy on and easy off over your normal clothes. Problem solved.
Electrohead management …listen up! This women is a corporate treasure. Pay her more, give her perks, an office with a door….whatever it takes to keep her doing this type of video. A single handed sales force she is! Amazing video. One of the best with real world user information. Much love from across the pond. 🚴🌴🌺Thanks from Key West Rick
What if I told you she runs the company 😂
@@lavatr8322
I would t be at all surprised!
Eilis is the management!
Awesome! Then the company’s future is very bright! Thanks Key West Rick
Ahh Rick you are so kind, thank you!
Great journey, very brave of you, not knowing where you were going to end up... Safe travels.
Awesome adventure! As an Engwe M20 ebike owner I can confirm the range it's never what it's advertised and also, the battery level is rubbish... it should always be a number+% and never little bars when your commute depends on knowing that
great touch showing how the bike fit so easily in the back of your dad's car
It's impossible to not like her!
I really wish manufacturers wouldn't lie on their range capacity. Claiming 250 km of range is ridiculous when Ellie (who really isn't a heavyweight) can only get 120 on eco mode.
I've managed to get 110 km out of my Giant Explore with its 625 Wh battery, mostly on Eco mode, and I probably weight two Ellies.
She didn't drive in eco mode, she took lots of terrain and 1500 ft elevation. Yeah, in ideal circumstances the double seems reasonable. Also, don't forget, she accelerated in 8 hours at least a 100 times.
True, the company should say 80 miles, which could be extended by up to 50%.
Wow that's quite the challenge! Well done, an 80 mile ride is a long way. The wrong saddle or position can wipe you out over that kind of range. Even 20 miles on the wrong saddle or bike can do you in easily. Like a lot of things, long distance biking takes a while to learn and dial in. I'm very impressed!!!! It seems to me that a lot of things can affect range, going up hill, riding into the wind, gravel/dirt or other road conditions, some kind of friction on the wheels, i.e. brakes rubbing just a little, a wheel being out of true, tire pressure,... I focus a lot on the ease of wheel rotation on my bikes, I can rotate my wheels with a feather and they love to roll and roll and roll.
80 miles on a single charge in real world use is damn impressive. Not sure why the manufacturer felt compelled to make such a bold claim if it's not realistic. It feels to me like there needs to be a certification body that can verify ranges a consistent and scientific manner.
Awwe those red cheaks, very Petite Meller. 😁
congratulations btw 🎉
Loved this. That distance on one charge is exceptional. Thank you for being so intrepid in making this video and shout out to your dad 👍🏻
Aww thank you so much!
I feel another award coming on! Absolutely amazing achievement - so many more people need to see this!! Well done you. X
Thank you!
I just watch it for Ellis, she is a real stunner.
The bike did ok but don’t underestimate your own contribution to this adventure. You did really well 👍
I have to say that I was a bit surprised tools and spare parts (inner tubes, perhaps a tyre) weren’t packed along for the journey.
2:58 I used to live by this bridge in Kingston, miss riding it every morning! Incredible how far e-bikes have come, 160 miles is crazy!
This is the first video, from this youtube chanel that I have watched. The video was far more interesting than some of the comments. I will be watching more, in the near future.
Well done that lady!
Glad you enjoyed it! Look forward to having you around
Awesome video, amazing ride, loved it
You are a soldier young lady. BRILLIANT WELL DONE!
Excellent. Well done. Glad you had a good day
Well done 👍
That’s a really impressive video.
Good for you hanging on in there to the end and still managing to give a good, balanced (umm pun ?), informative and very useful appraisal of the bike and journey.
Terrific.
Congrats! Amazing video
Excellent video! One of my favourites. Well done - a huge distance.
Congratulations on your valiant attempt - thank you for the video - very enjoyable.
I bought an ebike back in 2015, it did about 15 miles on a charge, although I was going flat out unrestricted on it. So it's amazing to hear that you can go so far on one now
Nice test, rangetests are always fun.. more or less : ) But you have a very nice scenery for it so good choise to test it out!
Very well done Eilis, your just amazing. 🤗
Thank you :)
Well done Eilis, that's a solid ride.
Great fun to watch, Eilish.
Well done You! thoroughly enjoyable video and very interesting approach to ebike design. Keep up the good work!
Well done, Eilis, fantastic to watch you pushing your limits, especially the brave encounter with the cows. I think you have a similar view of heading out into the countryside as I do when biking in London. I am impressed that you explained your goal and how you so decorously discussed the fact that you didnt hit it. So delightfully British. I really enjoyed this video. Well done for no shorts, dont attract attention when you are out and about in strange places. Good ol' dad, though, he sounds a nice chap.
Loved that! Uplifting, informative, inspiring and informative - Super fab! x
Awesome thank you so much!! ☺️
Great Vid!
Nice Couch btw
Great video as always. Some great scenery
I am waiting for solid state batteries before upgrading my ebike which has an actual range of 60-70 miles in eco mode vs claimed up to 96 miles in eco mode.
Most of my journeys on my e-bike are 20-35 miles anyway. I have yet to run the battery below 20% which I have read is very bad for the battery.
Also, as a country we need a proper cycling network connecting towns, cities and villages- away from traffic if we’re serious as a country to make
E-bikes an option for journeys of 100miles plus. Overgrown and blocked paths just aren’t cutting it.
If Eilish had done that journey sticking to roads where she could have maintained a higher speed with the same effort, she probably could have got another 20 km or more.
The range depends very much on the surface type, hills, headwinds, assistance level and of course, the weight of the rider and any other luggage.
I'm waiting on my first e-bike with a 750w Bosch battery. It's allegedly got 120 km range on mixed terrain but I'm 2 metres tall and 120 kg and I carry a lot of luggage so add about 10-30 kg for every ride. Throw in the hills and winds and if I get 60 to 80 km per charge I'll realistically be very happy. More than 100 km and I'll be delighted. 80+ will get me to and from work for two days without having to charge.
It is intended as an all round workhorse commuter and car alternative.
Exactly- how you ride it and terrains, wind resistance play a big part when it comes to range as does how heavy the rider is. But I am very light - under 60kgs and still don’t get the claimed range Gazelle say of 96 miles. Plus where I live we don’t have that many hills and I stick to roads and shared paths.
In the UK the legal ones are restricted to 250ws continuous power. We’re waiting for whether they will allow e-bikes of 500ws following a Govt. Consultation. But most bike associations are against it. Tbh it is not needed - and more protected cycling infrastructure is more important.
You will wait a very, very long time for solid state batteries. Years away yet maybe never come
You are an ebike beast.
Absolutely awesome.
You made an ebike believer of me🍺
Are you for real the electric moped did it
@@Tarmaccyclocross No, the appeal comes from being able to ride it like a bicycle. You can't ride an electric moped like you can a bicycle, its far heavier, generally has foot pegs instead of pedals (unless your moped was built pre 1977) and much higher top speeds. An electric moped also needs to be registered and insured as well as taxed.
Well done
Thanks for bringing us along. Well done. Your dad's a good man.
Thank you - he is!
Well done!
Great job Eilis! I did similar ride years ago and I slept on my parents couch for 10 hours afterwards. I'm in the US and I now have a Ride 1 up Core 5, 750 watt motor with a 32 mile range and I love climbing hills I would never be able to otherwise. Always appreciate your opinion and perspective on fitness and informative ebike reviews.👍🚴
It's all about pushing your boundaries and don't you feel SO GOOD (emotionally) after it??
Nice one these trips are always harder than you think. Well done 😊
Total legend! ❤
Great Vlog, biking is always an adventure . Be Electric ⚡👍
Well done, you are good at what you do, keep it up. That was entertaining and amazing to watch and it was inspiring, thank you.
Thank you very much!
Epic Adventure we'll done.
Love your videos. Wow, that's a awesome day trip to do!
One of your best😀👌
What a wonderful trip. All places are postcard landscapes. Thank you very much for posting this video. Greetings from Osorno, Chile.
It's so cool for us to receive a comment from Chile! Thanks for watching
Well done. To try is to succeed. 😊
Thank you ☺
Charming!
Really good video!
Great effort 👍🏻
Eilis you are a legend, I really enjoyed this adventure you went on. I think you should consider doing more of these in different locations. I did these routes when living in Reading 20 years ago, looks pretty much the same 😂
Gogoro electric scooters should make electric bikes as well. They already have the infrastructure for replacing depleted batteries in exchange for freshly charged ones. Kind of like a gas station for electric two wheelers.
That sounds awesome, we'll look into them
Well done great video
8.5 hrs is a big day. You did have a fair bit of gear on board too. I often wonder what on board weight these range numbers take into account? Awesome ride and that countryside and those canal paths look like bliss. 😍🤙
Well done, I'm planning a 30mile trip on my e-bike and I thought that was a long distance! Would love to try what you have done!
That’s so intense! Wonder if it would have been useful for a future ride of charging it at a pitstop so you can use more assist
The bike style looks so good
Great video
That's quite the commitment, you cray-cray!
I've often wondered about cycling from here in Bristol to London. Obv would have to be a 2 day affair for me.
great stuff! I believe the only fair way to compare these bikes is to use full assist, ie no input from rider, same elevations etc.
Then a comparison can be made, otherwise it can be altered by the input from different riders,
lovely scenery, love the towpaths, perfect!
I love my electric bike ( decathlon riverside 500) which has got me back into biking after 40 years! It has a good range, especially in eco but I can see one day I’ll need a replacement, what a great review putting this one in my sights as a possible.
Thanks!!
I like your vids, they’re genuine and wholesome. Also I like your kind smile 😃👍🏻
Thank you so much ☺
@@Electroheads of course 🙂
Really fun and nice video! :D I personally ride an Engwe Engine Pro and I think Engwe make really good bikes! The P275 looks cool! :-)
Nice content with challenges ❤
Excellent ride. I only read of bad things about cycling in England but this video shows a totally different aspect. Despite not getting the claimed distance, what you achieved is still impressive.
Admittedly I haven't cycled much of England, but I hear there are many great cycleways available!
This is awesome I live in Reading.
I enjoyed travelling along with you. At 80 yrs I do not cycle any more but I can dream. I gave up serious cycling in 1996/97. I had constant punctures or failed inner tubes. I was down the local cycle shop ever couple of weeks to replace tubes. Eventually I gave up. Could you do a piece on these puncture resistant tyres - I would find that very interesting.
Hi Eilis, what a great day out and fantastic scenic tour for those of us that aren't located in England. The planned 200k was a really huge expectation. As an e-mtb rider of two years I could never anticipate anything like that sort of range, and I have never done 10+ hours in the saddle so congratulations to you. Maybe we might see some smaller scenic loops in your future???
Absolutely!
I've made several ebikes from kits, I'm 64 still pretty fit, just love the places they take me and the adventures I have, really enjoyed your video, and your sense of adventure, well done 👍
Thanks for watching and coming along for the journey
Great video, great cycling and great Dad! I am looking for an E-bike, knowing nothing about them, so will check this one out. Thank you!
Awesome journey, Mahalo for sharing, Aloha from Hawaii
HAWAII! That's so cool - thanks for watching
I use a thin nylon buff over nose and mouth whilst cycling, helps to filter out the bits in the air that causes me lung problems, works for me
Well done! I've a Engwe E26 great bike but wouldn't get anywhere near that range even if I didn't take the speed limiter off.🤫
Great video… love this kind of stuff 👌🚵♀️
Well done you.
Amazing video. I actually bought the Newgen bike after watching your video almost 3 years ago and I took it from Bath (where I live) All the way to Boston in Lincolnshire in 4 days. Its great to be out on the road, with total freedom. Subbed!
That's an incredible achievement!! Huge congrats for achieving that
Think when I cycled to Scotland way way back I made around 150 in a day. Now I have an ebike that can be a life safer as I now sometimes get a bad pain in my knee after about20 miles, so if this was to happen my bike would take be home without the need to cycle in a lot of pain. Well done on your long ride. 👍🚴♀️
What an adventure ! This is inspiring to go on my own adventure . I’m normally about hammering down trails but a days explore with a good audio book could be fun. Not that 6:30am start though 😂
Yes! Get out there! You won't regret it
Another great video Ellis. Tip about charging new batteries. The max range won't kick in until between the 3rd to 5th full charge of any ebike battery.
Is that so?? That's very interesting I'll have a look into this!
Hitting dirt roads and singletrack is so much fun, best mental health boost you can get IMO, going on epic adventures.
Exactly this!
Very ballsy. That’s a long time on a bike. Well done.
I`m so glad I live in a country that allows 45kph at roads, also that I built a tandem bike to ride 300km in a charge with my wife, and that we just go to the beach at 167km from home in the holidays and just skip all the traffic jam, go back home with 968m of elevation back and didn't even have to recharge, because I tested once, but we do charge just in case. And of course my 2 dogs love the trip too, that is what 9kwh battery does for me.
I've had my engwe engine x since October last year and it's been a good ebike but not without it's issues. I run two batteries, a 13ah in the frame and a 10ah on the back and I managed about 55 miles on pas2/3 out of 7 and that's with a lot of hills. It now has bmx bars and a 56 tooth chain ring to eliminate ghost pedalling and a power analyser so you know how much watts and amps the bike is using. At its peak was pulling 19anps at 960w. It will reset every time you turn the power off and it will show you how many amp hours you've used on each session.
I have just downloaded that app and I'll try it out soon.
That tow path round the back of Southcote Reading is dreadful. I used to cycle to work everyday via there but since all those horrendous potholes have turned up I have to go by the road now. Great video!
This woman 🥰
My experience with my ebike is I wish it was a little lighter. When I run out of juice and need to cycle the rest of the way, the extra weight of the bike destroys my legs. I end up walking my bike 😂
Ado belt drive rides real easy without pedal assist
Thats an epic ride having to keep to eco or tour, 11 hours in the saddle.
Im tired after three.
Well done.
Thats crazy range, must be a light bike. I bet them tires help a lot with range too.
Wow almost 100 Miles insane
3:14 says "Bafang", but the video clearly shows the bike has an Ananda mid-drive. Two totally different brands.
Nice soldiering on!
As an extra you could have charged the battery at a pub for a bit whilst having a, well deserved pint, to show how fast it charges from empty. Maybe it would have been enough for the rest of the way, with a little more umpf than economy mode.
