Hey Paul! Yee yee!
I have to admit this, I'm a '06 fan....even though it devastated the first block, I was really surprised that it didn't do any damage to the 2nd. cinder block...smh.
I was very surprised too!
WHO_TEE_WHO
It really great video. Not trying to armchair quarterback here but the first test was different from the following two. It was almost like because they were looser. The first shot fired all the bricks seemed tightly butted up together
Here in Wisconsin the DNR has issued a four day hunting season for cinder blocks. A strict bag limit of 3 cinder blocks per day light or dark grey. The 30-30 is preferred as it leaves more cinder block for cooking.
In the masonry application I prefer the 06. cuts the bricks clean.
Bet they taste like shit!
@@davidhaun7767 A little crunchy
In Wisconsin are you allowed to shoot concrete blocks is they are part of buildings?
@@tommak6516 Only protesters during a riot law abiding people can not.
30-30, great all around plus they just look awesome, love a lever gun!!
30-30 junk. At least get a 30-40 kraig
My 30-30 is a bolt action. I love it.
Me too & the fact that it was the gun that won the west. I need to learn hot to read. Could have sworn you wrote lever action. Lol. I think i replied to the wrong post it's above you that likes lever actions. I prefer semi autos
@@chevysaregr8 no thanks the 30 30 is a great brush gun. With plenty of power to rip through tree branches. Best & most accurate rifle i have owned was a 7mm magnum lots of speed & a flat shooting as it can get
Todd my reply is 2 down seems i replied to the guy that likes bolt actions
Many of us had grandpas who carried 30-06 in WW2. Grandpa swore by 30-06. So a few generations later many of us love 30-06 as a matter of nothing more than tradition. Great grandpa, grandpa, Dad, all got a smile on their face from 30-06 so naturally we do too 😊. At the end of the day thats what its all about...smiles 😊. I dont really care what could be better, cheaper, or anything else, it simply makes me smile 😊😊
Still the best and most capable hunting round for 99% of the world's game.
I love how the .308 and 30-06 split those in half! Awesome hunting cartridges! Any of the 3 are great for deer and/or hogs!
For once in a goddamn life time someone actually chooses same weight bullets for a multi caliber test. It is about friggin time!
I'd rather see the commonly used cartridges in each caliber. You could load the 30-06 to exactly the same power as the 308. What would be the point?
John Terpack, He actually did use the most common “Hunting “ cartridges.
The only thing that was similar between the cartridges was the Projectile weight not the powder inside
@@naqibhusseinyar4292 that's fine. My point was only that it's bizarre to want a "fair" test.
FJ Dubya It was not a multi-caliber test. These rifles are all the same caliber.
Now if they could get the same barrel lengths.
I’m a .30-06 guy and if you ask me why I use a .30-06 it’s because that’s the gun pawpaw left me when he passed ain’t nothing to do with performance or variability lmao
Probably a little more expensive than the .308 per shot I would guess?
Totally get it. My father was a big western fan. He named me after a western star. And he had a 30-30 that I used to go hunting with him with. There is not a time I don't see a 30-30 that I don't think of him. I admit though that the 30-06 is a better all round hunting weapon, 1000 yards vs 200 yards effective range, can put down a griz more easily, or a big moose, but still love the 30-30 just because it reminds me of him. Ain't that the way it happens...
@@alexmh6131 correct. this is the only reason why I purchased a .308 as my deer rifle of choice. In terms of price to performance the .308 is more economical. the .30-06 is definitely, in terms of ballistics, the superior round however. Flatter Trajectory and slightly better range for a price I find to be too unjustifiable for my personal economic incentives at this time. I am also a mediocre shot at ranges beyond 150 yards where I am incompetent in calculating bullet drop and wind and other environmental factors. I simply can't find the time to practice and the .308 is less expensive for practice.
My pawpaw gave me a Remington 30 06 740 semi when I was 8. Shot it with him and started hunting with it at 10. Could shoot a tick of a deers ass 100 yards open sights. Loved that gun, unfortunately it was stolen several years ago
I'm sold on 30-06. About 25 years ago I was shopping for a rifle that I could use for just about any game that I might draw for in AZ. A Browning semi-auto in 30-06 checked all the boxes. Usable for any game I was likely to draw for. Ammo reasonable cost and available everywhere. Excellent ballistics. A very reliable semi-auto. Never regretted the choice.
I like the 30/30 because it's an all-around general purpose hunting rifle.
I like it cause a lever action makes me feel like John Wayne. P.s. I have a Remington 700 30-06, and I love it but nothing feels better than a lever action rechamber
Same to both of these plus it was the gun I grew up using for everything and it was what my dad left me when he passed away
My dad left a Marlin 336, manufactured in 1951, and chambered in.35 Remington. My wife used to have a matching rifle but in 30-30. Both rifles were sweet shooting, short range guns. Quick to shoulder, very effective on deer. My brother said that dad’s Marlin is a thumper but he needs to learn reloading. He can’t find ammunition but he’s got a little brass that my dad hung onto from years ago.
That's actually the same reason I prefer 30-06. You can load it all the way up to a 220 grain bullet which turns it into a legit large/dangerous game rifle and pushes it beyond what pretty much any other non magnum cartridge can do. Most people would never have a need for that though and when it comes to whitetail or pig there's not much difference other than effective range.
I'm a .308 person (Browning BLR). Used to have a sporterized 1903 Springfield. When I had the chance at a good buy on the BLR a grabbed it for a lighter weight package that had close to .30-06 ballistics. In MI deer country, shots are rarely more than 75 yards so I figured it was a good option.
Dude aimed so many times his left eye randomly closes when he talks. 😂
😆😆😆
I couldn't resist brotha.
Damn, now I can't un-notice this!!! 😅

Yup!!!
A cinder block killed my dad in a drive by shooting. He was shooting a red brick. When will this cycle of brick on brick violence end.
@@catmandoo4u1 he wasn't mason around.
So hard to clean and cook though
Exactly my thoughts.
Great demonstration.
I own an M1 Garand in 30.06 and it is my go-to weapon when going tactical (so to speak).
I appreciate the .308 round for it's muzzle velocity and mass delivered to the target. I do not own an AR-10 but I wish I did.
I also own a Marlin 30.30 for deer hunting. It's really a great round for its intended use. Reliable, accurate weapon everyone should have in their arsenal.
The ol m-1 is my go to or the old model 12 i have in the corner
You need an M1A. You’ll be happy.
@@whereswaldo5740 Thanks for the advice. I'm sure you're right but I'll have to make due with my trusty M1 along with all the ammo I've stockpiled and save the hundreds (more like thousands) of $$ to spend on the things I actually need. Patriots out there would all be advised to do the same. It's going to get worse before it gets better I'm afraid.
The reason why the military adopted the 308 is because it shoots a 150 grain bullet about the same speed as a 3006.The 3006 outshines it with heavier bullets.
How many cinder blocks does one deer represent? I’ve never seen a cinder block wall running across a field, but I would certainly shoot it if it did.
Or how many cinder blocks represent a engine block? Lol fun times training.
LOL! Fer sherr! Else, I'm leaving the forest, quickly.
Probably has some applicability to military use however. :)
Problem is you have to cook it forever and it is still tough to chew. ;D
If I see a cinder block running through my yard, I'd just chase it off with a broom
One thing I like about all 3 rounds, you can walk into any sporting good store or mom and pops and find them.
True

This aged well...
not anymore
CardinalArc5515 so true ! I can even find .22 rounds
Thanks. The 30-30 is a clean shot. It makes a good deer rifle.
Yeah for close range shots.
Yeah if by dear you mean bunny rabbits.. jk jk 🙂
I’ve shot deer out to 150yds with the 30-30, and it does not bloodshot the shoulder meat up like my 30-06 does.
Every rifle in the gun safe gets a chance in the deer woods
@@u.p.woodtick3296 Exactly! Finally someone who gets it. The bullet needs to be subsonic when it hits flesh to avoid blood shock.
I like all 3 but 30.06 has always been my favorite! Distance and power, never let me down!
All three are excellent. .308 is probably my favorite, but, 30-30 has a special place in my heart since that was my first introduction into high-powered rifles and learned to hunt with. Depending on the range/distance, there's no animal in North America that either of those three couldn't put down.
I had a neighbor take me shooting one day and he demonstrated the difference between different rounds. We used some watermelons as targets. We had 30.06, 223, 9mm, 380, 44mag, and 45acp. Here is what happened.
223... Hit the watermelon made little hole in and slightly bigger out. This round in commonly found in what the media calls an assault rifle, we shot it out of an AR15.
9mm... little hole in and quite a bit bigger going out. Common round in semi-auto handguns. We used a Baretta (cant remember the model but similar to the military issue)
380... little hole in little hole out. This round is not as common any more, it's slightly larger in diameter than a 9mm but not as powerful. We had a small revolver for this one (cant remember the model)
44mag. This was fun... the watermelon had a big hole in and was missing most of the back. I didn't like shooting this one as the revolver we used kicked like a mule. It was a Ruger blackhawk.
45acp. My favorite of the handgun rounds we used. Similar effect as the 44mag but the Colt 1911 was smooth and easy to shoot. This round is not as popular as it used to be but still a great round all and all.
And last was the 30.06 I saved the comments about this one to be last as the media doesn't have as much problem with single shot type hunting rifles as they do with the big scary sounding "semi-auto" sporting rifles. We used a Remington 700 for the shooting and I fell in love with this rifle (I now own one even). I cant tell you what size the entrance hole was because the watermelon pretty much exploded on impact. When I say exploded I dont mean like it left a crater in the ground but we were about 20 yards away for all shots and the 30.06 we saved for last and we ended up getting watermelon guts all over the range and even back on us. Not just one melon either, we hit 3 melons with each round (there were 3 of us shooting that day) and all 3 times with the 30.06 we got sprayed!
You sound like Hank Hill, I feel like you should be discussing propane and propane accessories
Dang it! Bobby
Dude - that’s funny. 😄👍🏼
I swear I didn't read your post until I made mine. Dude is a perfect Hank pitch
Oh shit now I can't unhear that
I'm so glad I'm not going crazy
3 of my favorite calibers!!! 30-30 I use when I’m hunting in deep brush and woods with not a lot of clean shooting lanes. 308 and 30-06 I use at the edge of the woods and along fields! Never had an issue against buck skin lol!!! Thanks for the content bud!!
Love a lever, and the Henry .308 is my woods favorite. Switched from the .30-06 to a .270 for the flatter trajectory, it's my long range favorite. Do have the .300 short mag as well, also fun.
I’ve never shot a 308
Always been a 3006
My dad was a Marine he bought me a Mauser when I was 16
Always liked the 180grain 3006
Great deer rifle
I like em all!
Hell, I took down my Moose with my 30-06. Dropped it at 100 yds. Great Moose Rifle as well.
3 very potent cartridges that I enjoy shooting but the ought six has always been my favorite of the 3... All 3 are more than capable of taking majority of game that I will ever encounter especially with selection of premium bullets and impressive velocities of newer powders now available...
I love 30-06 for hunting
The 308 was created to put the power of the 30-06 in a smaller, lighter "30-30 sized" cartridge, they have almost identical performance by design. No surprises here and a good demonstration of what 46 years of advancement in cartridge design looks like.
Not really he used factory normal Winchester ammo. I can get a 180 grain bullet travelling at same speed as that 150 grain Winchester weak round by handloading the 30/06 myself.
You're right, there is 0 loads that the 308 has an advantage in.
That is not accurate
I'm glad to have found this video.
Seems like it will be invaluable for my next cinder block hunt.
Love my 30-30... good brush gun. 30-06 is a great BIG game gun.
retard anti-gunner legislators in some states when forced to permit hunting, have set the minimum caliber at .350 and also straight wall cases only - thereby eliminating a huge swath of common hunting rounds - so you could theoretically hunt with a 9mm carbine but none of these rounds - idiots!!
@@ArchangelChi dude why?
@@gmsoutdoors4924 Same as usual - they know nothing about guns or hunting, get bought by the Bloombergs and Soros orgs who feed them a pile of lies, and then they go out and draft stupid harmful legislation - long passed time for guillotine manufacturing to become a booming industry :-)
As I recall from my deer hunting days after I got back from service in '68, I looked up the ballistics of my .308 caliber Remington model 788 and compared the ballistics to the 30-06 round. At 500 yards, the bullet drop for the .308 was about 8" lower than the 30-06. Not much difference between the fps or foot pounds either as I recall. Personally I've owned .308 rifle and 30-30 but have fired all 3 calibers. For hunting deer I don't think it would make much difference which caliber was used within 100 yards; the deer would still be dead with a well placed shot.
Exactly. Splitting hairs when it comes down to the 100-200 yard shots.
I was in Kenya many years ago, hunting Eland on one particular day, when I was charged by a rogue concrete masonry unit. Took three bullets from my .375 and two from the PH's .458 to stop it. Scary. Turned out, someone else had wounded it a few days earlier, or else it probably wouldn't have gone rogue like that. Ever since then, on all my trips to Africa, I carry a trowel and a level...
Don't forget your string line and round tool.
Great thing about Kenya, you are not required to carry your journeyman license.
GREAT video and interesting results ! I own a Ruger American 30-06 and a Henry lever action 30-30 and your results are helpful to know when considering a hunt ! Love both my rifles and your page !
Thanks for watching Craig!
The 30-06 is like an M1 Garand. It stormed the Beach of Normandy. It can storm a cinder block wall!
@Corey gearhed High haha oh yeah. The BAR also used the 30-06 as well I think
Lol the 150gr .308 was designed to be ballistically identical to the 150gr GI load .30-06 for the M1 garand
The 30-06 was introduced in 1906. That’s where the 06 part of the name comes from.
Im a simple man, i see 30-30 i click
Me too! Thanks for watching!!!
VERY cool video!! Simple test, to the point, great narration and explanation.
Excelent demonstration. Confirmed once again for me- a 308 is a sufficient caliber for power & accuracy for my needs. Love that graphic demonstration of the differences between the three very common calibers. Good job bro.
Thanks for watching Steven!
I'm glad you put the 30-30 out there. It's my favorite rifle even if she can't do it all.

luvmyctd I live in Alaska and there is a lot that gun won't drop, I shot a moose with a 30-06 IN THE HEART and it still took three steps before dropping, I dissected the heart and the bullet went right through it, so don't tell people that a 308 is going to kill a grizzly because I wouldn't trust a 30-06 to do that.
@@nah6430 Yeah, I'd almost say .300 Win mag is a better caliber for Alaska hunts. There's a lot more power to it and I can see it having a better chance of taking down an angry grizzly.
Love it. I've shot all three. I own just the 30-30 b/c it was my father's rifle (Marlin 1957) and my doctor's dad invented the microgroove which was the Marlin. They're all good rifles, I own a Marlin 30-30 and a Remington 700 30-06, just took both of them to the rifle range today to do some accuracy testing before deer season, both are tack drivers, 30-30 is dead on out to 100 yards, and 30-06 is dead on out to 300 yards, I love both of those caliber rifles. I kinda wish you'd set up a chrony to see if there was any apparent correlation between velocity and damage. Also, it seemed to me that the .308 made a bigger hole in the first wall than the 30.06. Even the 3030 cracked the first wall (couldn't see the 2nd well enough). Fascinating video there, sir. Kudos!

All about the right tool for the job. when I was on a deer lease with a lot of open area, used my 30.06. Now I have land with a LOT of oak and brush (and deer), I switched to the 30-30. wades through the brush. If a deer was more than 150 yards away, I likely wouldn't be able to see it anyway.

Thanks for watching! 75 degrees in TN
Well the 308 is essentially a more compact 30-06 so no surprise that it did pretty much the same thing, although I was expecting the 30-06 to do one more wall than it did, I think with a softer target to measure these, you would probably see a moderate increase in damage with the 30-06
the 30-06 150 gr load is about the weakest load for it when comparing ballistics to the 308 at 150 gr they are just about identicle fps,and trajectory load up 170 gr 30-30 and 180 in 308 and 30-06 and see a huge difference the 30-30 will make all first block the 308 makes thru 1st wall of second and 30-06 will make thru to 3rd block 3 out of 4 shots 1 shot made thru 2nd partition of 3rd block and cracked rest ( remington core lokt ammo all round nose) pointed soft point rem core lokt will penetrate a lil further with both 308 and 06 but keep in mind the pointed soft points almost never start to mushroom on deer inside 100yards unless you hit some heavy bone like a shoulder
The 308 and the 3006 are basically the same , with the 3006 having a slight advantage in speed and energy
You are correct. Very similar ballistics under 100 yards. In the NE they are practically interchangeable. I prefer my 308 for deer choosing from the two. More often though I grab the 30/30 , my one and done gun loaded with 160gr ftx bullets
yeah exactly, if i was stepping up to 180 grains exclusively for 200 plus yards, id use a 30-06. In the bush, 308 is wicked.
A lot more
Basically the same, only different
Great show, I have all three calibers and love them all. My next gun is the 338 lapua, massive energy!
You are correct in calling the blocks concrete blocks, sometimes called CMU. Concrete Masonry Units.
They no longer make cinder blocks.
Great video comparing three common calibers.
I only own a 30/30 now living back home in Florida but I do miss my 30-06. The 30/30 is all I need here for hunting purposes and it's a blast (litteraly) to shoot. I got my ARs for anything two legged though.
Man, that is some beautiful wood on that 94! That's a keeper for sure!
I love the 94!
love my 94 s
Sure is a sight for sore eyes 😊
I prefer the 30-06 simply because Im hanging onto the past...I was pretty close on my guess, and still have a lot of
confidence in the 30-30, 30/30 killed a lot of bears back in the day also...
The best caliber is the gun you have. I have a 30 - 06 so that is the best caliber. I only shout 20 rounds a year.
I enjoy the comfort of knowing that my 06 is putting game down. No questions.
I think the different characteristics of the different lead tops, although same weight should probably all be changed to FMJ to even the playing field.
You're pretty cool Who...I just subscribed. Keep up the great work!

I’ve got all 3 I’ve grown up on my gramps with his 30-06 so I’ve always been partial to my 06 my Remington 740 is my baby it’s a 1955 and still shoots like the day it came off the factory line
I live and hunt in the southwestern part of the country. I have had good luck with my .270 and 7mm. magnum for elk and mule deer. I also have a .300 Win magnum. That one I use in Canada and Alaska for bigger game.
270 a good caliber,, it will be the last deer rifle to leave my place ... all i ever hunted deer with until few years ago ..went to 243 .. its a smooth shooting gun for a old man like myself .. north east texas on my farm in the red river bottoms its all a man needs for pigs and deer ... when i was younger id swore the 270 hung the moon for white tail and mule deer hunting ..
And we needed to know this nugget of info why?
Each serve a purpose for different scenarios in relation to hunting 🧸 I run both the .308 & the 30-30 for open field and thick terrain to get the best of both worlds.
This is part of the reason why I chose the .308 because it has significantly more power than a 30-30 but yet not that much less than a 30-06 in a shorter action rifle.
Nice comparison - again :) I like it! Folks tend to forget the .308 was designed to provide about the same ballistics as the normal 30-06 round in a shorter case.. Seeing them perform so similarly is nice to see.
Hey Ken! Thanks! This was a fun one
Ken Helmers the 308. Is actually more accurate and has less drop per 100 yards. But yea, the 308 was designed as a shorter 30-6 but nowadays with the advanced rifles and technology, it's surpassed
Thanks Skylar
There were over a dozen .308 rounds made and they never surpass the 30-06 record kills at 1000 yards.
You're a moron if you think the .308 has surpassed the 06. The 30-06 is capable of sending a 180 grain bullet to over 2800 fps, you can't get anywhere near than with the .308
When I see .30-30 I click

Ha my 30/30 is a bolt 😝
A 30-30 is a good saddle gun since it is shorter than the other 2. I had a Winchester 30-30 and it has killed a few deer, but my meat stick was my Savage 270 bolt action. It was deadly accurate. Ballistic tips make it even more deadly.
Yeah, those Ballistic Tips are something else! Majority of the time, when you shoot a deer, the bullet goes clean through. Years ago shot a deer with my 7mm Remington Magnum with a 150gr Nosler Ballistic tip. Deer was at 225 yards, standing broadside on a steep upward hill, that swept the front legs back some, facing to the right. Upon skinning the deer, found the bullet just inside the skin of the left leg. Bullet had broken right leg, went through ribs and boiler room and broken left fron leg. Used ALL the energy on that deer! Bullet is now a conversation piece!
I was gifted a model 94 when I graduated high school. Fun video, but let’s agree you don’t want to be on the wrong end of any of those weapons.
after watching a pile of blocks, and other junk being shot by various calibers, my guess is that all 3 only went through 2 layers, after that the were too broken up to do any real damage past that, and the extra damage was due to the amount of energy difference between the 3 rounds
I run 170 grains in 30-30 and 30-06.
165 grains in the 308.
At 100-400 yards the 308 and 06 behave almost identical on soft targets. The 30-30 due to a very blunted tip actually seems to hit animals just as hard if not a little more at 100 yards then at about 150 and beyond, the other two definitely take over on performance
Hunting in WI I have identical results. Under 150 yards my 30-30 consistently does the most damage to soft targets. Beyond that, 308(perfered) or 30/06 for accuracy and terminal ballistics.
Here in the Midwest I have used all three cartridges for hunting cinders. To be fair, I’ve never eaten one, but it looks like the .06 does a nice job of field dressing them for you.
Given that the third wall is technically a double wall, I'd be curious to know if it would change anything to place the walls equally distances apart, not the bricks. In other words set it up so that there were no walls butted right against eachother.
Why not use the same bullet in this test , corelock on the 30-30 does not compare to the other two.
Okay, if I'm going hunting in a concrete jungle, I'll use the 30 06.
When I go hunting in the woods ill use a 30 30.
I still like my 303 for all around hunting, no good for rabbits.
Take my word for it.
You can fall further down that YT hole and find videos of people shooting similar sized animals with much higher caliber rifles at 1000 fps in HD...ya know...if you want to google that...
CMU concrete masonry unit
Proper nomenclature
And you are shooting the webs
The walls are the exterior surfaces
Any how great video I was surprised by the results
Keep up the great work
I love the 308 Winchester cartridge. Very easy to reload. Components are easy to find. Very forgiving cartridge to shoot. Very accurate with 168gr match bullets and Reloder 15. Excellent video. Cheers.
I've fired all 3 but I own several different styles of 308 after gel block testing and accuracy testing the 308 edged out the 3030 and 3006 but fell short to the 7mag and 7mm08 and 270 but ammo availability is a must. So whatever you buy makes sure you have plenty of ammo for it
First rifle as a child 30/30 marlin.
First rifle I ever paid for Ruger M77 Mark II 308
but love my 1903 A3 30/06
and M1 Garant shot so many rounds from each tightest groups of all of them 308.
But all are good weapons
jason kent my first gun was also a marlin 30/30.
Could bullet shape have had an effect? 308 and 30-06 were both pointed while 30/30 was round nosed.
did they shoot that thutty thutty out of a lever gun?had a tube magazine? thats why. they need to use a hollowpoint in them guns. a big one or a flat nosed bullet.
@@dalemaloney255 Oh, I knew why, I'm just pointing out the difference in bullets that may also make a difference in how it goes through (or doesn't go through) the target.
Polymer tipped rounds are pointed and help with ballistics but don't know how it would effect penetration because, ya know, polymer
The 30 - 30 bullet isn't jacketed. Plain ole lead. The other two bullets are jacketed. That will affect the penetration of the 30-30 because it disintegrates quicker.
Yes the shape makes a difference theare is a mushroom a mushroom explode. tipe bullet and a bullet that dosnt explode
And today's episode on the WhoTeeWho show: New kids on the cinder block . . .
I wish I had enough land and live out in the country to be able to shoot in my back yard
Me too
Me too and too own all kinds of animals.
I love these tests! It really puts the power of these rifle loads into perspective with the cinder block penetration. I have hunted hog with a Marlin 30-30, a Juggernaut Tactical JT-10, and my Remington 740 and I have never had to take another shot with the 308 or the 30-06. The 30-30 always needed a second shot, especially when I shot the hog in the shoulder.
Comments: Benefits of 30-30 are easier to carry & shoot in heavy cover. It is way quicker to shoot a running cinder block with an open sight, carbine, imo! I have used all 3 calibers for hunting, and all have their pluses. My Winchester usually is more fun over the past 50 years. Fun video- thx!
I love a good lever gun
I'll take a m1 garand over a lever gun all day long
@@WHOTEEWHO I have had a boatload of fun over the years, hunting with my Model 336 Marlin lever-action in 30-30 ! I paid $86 for it way back in the early 1970s !
I’ve watched many of your videos and have enjoyed them immensely. I would like for you to make a video with the Mossberg Patriot in .308. I think most of the reviews you do are centered around quality and accuracy of the lower end rifles. I bought one of them for well under $400 and have been pretty impressed with what you get for that price. I have a Vortex Crossfire scope mounted and like them both very much. Think you could do that? Thanks - John
A 179 fir on the 30/30, 180 on the 308 and a 200 or 220 on the 06 would be interesting. That would demonstrate max potential if the 3 rounds. Good video!
More deer have been taken by the 30-30 than any other cartridge. 🤣
Yes they have.
It helps that the 30-30 was invented `first and was quickly adopted by many hunters. The 30-06 was more expensive for the gun AND the bullets which contributed to the wide acceptance of the 30-30. It really is a sweet all around bullet. Hit a deer in the head to preserve the meat and I guarantee it will not take even one step.
Probably so but the 3006 has taken more of all big game species than all other cartridges combined
More Germans have been taken by 30-06 than any other blaaaah
I can't choose; that's why I have all three of them.
Me tooo!
Me 3. Along with 7,mm and 270. But my 30-06 is the tried and true Deer hunting rifle for me. Great video Bro.
I love em all! Thanks for watching!
Will B., my Springfield Armory 30-06 is my Heavy Caliber rifle of choice, although I do have a sweet M-1A in .308 and would really appreciate it's Semi-Auto Capability in Certain Situations, if you get my drift ? I do like the ease and weight of my lever action Marlin 30-30, but wouldn't take it if going after BEAR or some Two Legged Varmints.
James Wells meee too
They all get r done !!! Love the content
You should do this test with .35 Remington also ! Either way love the content keep it up !
.308 i hunt east of the Mississippi. The range is good and terminal performance excellent.
My first rifle was a Taurus .22 then My uncle gave me a Winchester .30-30 that he used to hunt cougars. Now I have a Browning .308 and I love it.
I still like the 06 for the versatility of being able to go from 55gr accelerator to 220gr RN bullet.
My dad had a 30-3o,was ok but worthless at long range. I have a 30-06
30-06 Is what I hunt with and I love it because You can take on anything that walks the planet
you can do that with .308 too, but you usually have less freebore to play with. hasnt mattered in my experience
Honestly do u load up your 30 06 from 55 gr all the way up to 220gr? Just buy more guns. Its a great excuse 🤣
Great vid.
Suggestion...make a Go Pro stand out of rebar. Just put a bend in it so you can wrap the articulating tripod around it, sharpen the other end so you can stick it in the ground and voila.
It would be interesting to get a slow motion picture of a bullet going through the lens of the GoPro.
I got an AR-10 in .308 and I also have a model 94 in 30-30. Love em both.
you shot through the web of the brick, the wall is thicker. also, using hunting rounds that are made to expand. try a fmj and there will be more penetration
Don't recommend FMJ in 30-30. Unless you want to have rounds detonate in the tubular magazine!
I'm a .308 guy so seeing that the .308 went through as many walls as the 30-06 and obliterated the block quite a bit more than any of the other rounds is a great feeling. You were right, that was a really fun video.
Now I don't need to watch the video.
.308 & 30-06 have identical velocity with the 150 gr. These velocities with these light bullets give poor penetration on very dense material. But, the 30-06 gives a lot more velocity with the heavier 180 & 200 gr. bullets..thus a lot more energy and penetration than the .308 is capable of. I really prefer the 200 gr. spitzer in my 30-06 [1/2 moa at 100 yrds.]

Hey brother, there is always going to be a friendly rivalry between people based on their preference of ammo, guns and just about everything else, especially in the firearm community. I think it's based on personal experiences, triumphs and losses.
As far as MOA, you cannot discount the importance of the weapon you are using. You can have the absolute best ammo in the world and if the firearm is a piece of junk you won't have an MOA worth a damn. I have a SAKO A7 in .308 and SAKO guaranteed a 5 shot sub 1 MOA at 100 yds. straight out of the box. Guess what? They were right. I had a sub 1 MOA at 100 yds. in a 5 shot group right out of the box using Hornady ammo. That rifle is incredibly accurate and I get 1 MOA or sub MOA with cheaper rounds as well. I became a .308 guy due to military experience many, many years ago. I also like the fact that .308 ammo is everywhere and in bulk thanks to the military using it. Just about all of my rifles are .308/7.62x51 or 223/5.56 because those are military calibers and getting ammo at a fair price is a lot easier and there should never be a shortage of those rounds either. Of course if there ever is really a zombie apocalypse I want to have millions of rounds available to me....lol. The 30-06 is a fantastic round and at the end of the day all that matters is that we are all happy with the ammo we are using. Best wishes and happy shooting brother.
@Jeff Holland ballistic coefficients and kinetic energy are a thing.
He should have thrown a 220 GR smk into a block.
You should see what an m2ap does out of a 24" 1903.
I can completely disable vehicles with one shot.
@Nunya Dibness that is wholly incorrect.
Their ballistics charts are different and 30-06 can fire a 55gr sabot all the way up to 230gr supersonic.
Sub Sonic loads are also different pressures and optimal barrel lengths are different with 22" preffered for .308 and slower burning powder and 24" for 30-06.
Do the same test with .22 short, .22 long rifle and .22 mag and then formulate review questions. Awesome video man.
Next time I go hunting for cinder block, I will know which gun to take! thanks LOL :)
