Rare Classic TOMY Toy Trains $10 Trash & Treasure InterCity 125 Vs Thomas The Tank

  • A $10 tub of mixed mystery toys has some hidden toy train treasures within. A rare early Thomas The Tank with Annie & Clarabel is awesome but a TOMY Intercity 125 is possibly even more amazing. It's a curious mix of toys and some great flashbacks to earlier times. The Matchbox Mini Ha Ha is awesome but the Qantas playing cards are rubbish. The real mystery to these toys is why was so much damaged? The TOMY train track has a very similar damage pattern going on around the track joining area. The TOMY track has not gone brittle so this style of damage is hopefully something the audience can work out. The question is did I get my $10 value from the trashed toys, or is everything I picked up junk.
    InterCity 125 was the brand name of British Rail's diesel-powered High Speed Train (HST) fleet, which was built from 1975 to 1982 and was introduced in 1976. An InterCity 125 train is made up of two Class 43 power cars, one at each end of a fixed formation of Mark 3 carriages (the number of carriages varies by operator). The train operates at speeds of up to 125 mph (201 km/h) in regular service, and has an absolute maximum speed of 148 mph (238 km/h), making it the fastest diesel-powered train in the world, a record it has held from its introduction to the present day. Initially the sets were classified as Classes 253 and 254. A variant of the power cars operates in Australia as part of the XPT.
    There have been many model and toy guises of the InterCity 125. One of the first in the UK was by Hornby Railways, which launched its first model version in 1977. This model was supplied with an incorrect length Mk3 coach which was shortened to allow the model to reliably negotiate the smallest radius curves. This was done by removing one of the 8 side windows rather than scaling the whole length. It was later released in InterCity 'Swallow' livery, Great Western green-and-white, Midland Mainline and Virgin Trains. Lima released its version of the InterCity 125 in 1982, of which the Mark 3 coaches were correct to the lengths of the real-life coaches and included the guard's coach. Hornby eventually followed suit in the late-1990s, when its short Mark 3 coaches were replaced by correct scale length ones but omitted the guard's coach. Hornby released a totally new version of the InterCity 125 power cars in late 2008. Dapol produces an N gauge model of the train. Railway Shop (Hong Kong) produces a T gauge model (1:450 scale). The TOMY InterCity 125 toy I have may be quite rare and highly collectable.

    I did try to find the TOMY InterCity 125 on E-bay but none were there. As for the Matchbox Mini Ha Ha 1975 the price ranges between $100 to $10. I ask a few questions in the video so I wonder who's going to answer them.

    It is tricky finding these on eBay. I have seen them but not too often and mostly in the UK it seems. I like the diverse figs that Tomy made in some of the obscure Tomy Train sets. I am loving finding dark blue track era stuff.
    I've seen much less spam and much less theft of videos since the recent changes. And I have made MUCH less too. Not much of a trade off.
    It is so stupididly annoying as you say to see the yellow dollar sign on kid friendly videos. Heaven forbid if ads run on a video that is showcasing products that people might want to buy. It is silly but I think they are improving. Might be too little too late.
    That little LEGO torso I think is a more modern one with the internal supports inside the torso.
    It is a shame that your videos don't get the views of the yelling a screaming toy channels. I showed my son 4 random examples of channels that get close to a million views a day and all had one thing in common - non stop over excitement over every detail. I find it exhausting but I guess the kids love it.

    • @leokimvideo
      @leokimvideo  Před 6 lety +3

      Be careful on CZcams right now....put it this way I see very few ad's being served and far too many Google ad's. It's a sign of real trouble.

    • @leokimvideo
      @leokimvideo  Před 6 lety +2

      You watch what happens next, the already totally overproduced kids area will be even more overproduced. And why start at one channel, just pump it until it wrecks it for everyone. Google really need to consider a channel limit for producers and monthly upload limit. How many bites of an apple do people want. Believe me this site is in some very serious trouble.

    Oh wow, I actually have most of these original Tomy sets! Even the intercity engine, somehow. I had a massive single-box set that included Thomas, James, Percy, Annie, Clarabel and some trucks as well. And that red crossing in good condition! The nostalgia!
    My tracks also got damanged ends eventually, especially the turn tracks. I think it was literally just wear-and-tear considering I had the set handed down from my older brothers.
    I've lost all the boxes to time but I do still have all the engines. (I don't intend on giving them away though)
    Also, I think sometimes the little switch under the engines sometimes gets stuck in "Neutral" so to speak, which probably caused the Intercity in the video to fault.

    Every child in my family went through a "Thomas phase". We had some of the Merit trains. The tops came off A and C so easy and they just bent into themselves as you can see on your ones. I believe blue track is from trying to force the tracks together with clumsy toddler hands, at least that's how the kids in my family have broken a fair bit of it. Nostalgic find :)

  • @oodsigma
    @oodsigma Před 6 lety +2

    Wow this brings back memories! I used to have loads of the Tomy blue track stuff when I was younger. I had a lot of what you show in the video including the yellow platforms with signs, the stairs and bridge parts, the grey ramp and many of the trains. I also had that exact same imitation set. I don't remember my track ever getting damaged like the parts you have. I think 10 dollars was ok for what you got tbh.
    I think its nice that the newer Annie and Clarabel have a more diverse range of characters in the windows. Shows how the Island of Sodor has changed since the original series. And congratulations to Australia for making the right decision yesterday!

    I remember the Merit Thomas, it had a red version of the trackmaster tracks with round connectors instead of the square ones. I'm guessing they weren't included with the bundle because said round connectors would wear out of shape very easily.
    The old Tomy trains were a big part of my childhood, I made a big layout I would play with all the time as a child.

    These toys are cool I was born in 1991 and I missed out on these I was and still am obsessed with Star wars, trains, ships (mostly Titanic and warships), and legos also a Thomas fan I used to catch the show when it was made with models and the only Thomas stuff I had was wooden railway and Gordon and Henry were my favorites but most of my trains were HO scale sets and I had a layout table up in the playroom of our old place it was wonderful. Sadly I think it mostly vanished during moves and so they all gone I suspect my dad took them to goodwill without my knowing. I miss my toys wish I had my toy trains back. I still have some of the Star Wars toys mostly the 3 inch figures and the vehicles never letting those go.

I think $10 was a fair price for what you got, a lot of that track could still be used despite the cracks. I have no idea how that damage occurred, I have never seen it before. I think I know how the track (may) have been damaged.
    Some plastics, particularly older plastics (70's, 80's) are sort of semi-hard. They flex in one direction but can be very brittle in the other. A bit like wood. Wood tends to splinter along the grain. What you tested in the video was maybe more of a cross cut, but the damage is more of a rip cut parallel to the imaginary grain.
    I can't say for sure but my guess is somehow the pieces at the got hit with a hard force (or fell) on the tip and it fissured the way up.

    CZcams
    According to your timeline I started my channel when CZcams became hard in 2012 and I agree! With my old channel (cyril227ify) I found it really easy to get views (2009-2012), even though my content at that time was very amateurish and basic. I decided to start my new channel (ThomasTankCollectables) because I had become better at making videos and wanted a new start. But it was so difficult to get views and it took ages to build up subscribers etc. Even now my videos still get very few views. It may be because my content is very niche and I don't talk in my videos. But I do think CZcams is to blame to some extent.
