Rare Classic TOMY Toy Trains $10 Trash & Treasure InterCity 125 Vs Thomas The Tank

- A $10 tub of mixed mystery toys has some hidden toy train treasures within. A rare early Thomas The Tank with Annie & Clarabel is awesome but a TOMY Intercity 125 is possibly even more amazing. It's a curious mix of toys and some great flashbacks to earlier times. The Matchbox Mini Ha Ha is awesome but the Qantas playing cards are rubbish. The real mystery to these toys is why was so much damaged? The TOMY train track has a very similar damage pattern going on around the track joining area. The TOMY track has not gone brittle so this style of damage is hopefully something the audience can work out. The question is did I get my $10 value from the trashed toys, or is everything I picked up junk.
InterCity 125 was the brand name of British Rail's diesel-powered High Speed Train (HST) fleet, which was built from 1975 to 1982 and was introduced in 1976. An InterCity 125 train is made up of two Class 43 power cars, one at each end of a fixed formation of Mark 3 carriages (the number of carriages varies by operator). The train operates at speeds of up to 125 mph (201 km/h) in regular service, and has an absolute maximum speed of 148 mph (238 km/h), making it the fastest diesel-powered train in the world, a record it has held from its introduction to the present day. Initially the sets were classified as Classes 253 and 254. A variant of the power cars operates in Australia as part of the XPT.
There have been many model and toy guises of the InterCity 125. One of the first in the UK was by Hornby Railways, which launched its first model version in 1977. This model was supplied with an incorrect length Mk3 coach which was shortened to allow the model to reliably negotiate the smallest radius curves. This was done by removing one of the 8 side windows rather than scaling the whole length. It was later released in InterCity 'Swallow' livery, Great Western green-and-white, Midland Mainline and Virgin Trains. Lima released its version of the InterCity 125 in 1982, of which the Mark 3 coaches were correct to the lengths of the real-life coaches and included the guard's coach. Hornby eventually followed suit in the late-1990s, when its short Mark 3 coaches were replaced by correct scale length ones but omitted the guard's coach. Hornby released a totally new version of the InterCity 125 power cars in late 2008. Dapol produces an N gauge model of the train. Railway Shop (Hong Kong) produces a T gauge model (1:450 scale). The TOMY InterCity 125 toy I have may be quite rare and highly collectable.

I did try to find the TOMY InterCity 125 on E-bay but none were there. As for the Matchbox Mini Ha Ha 1975 the price ranges between $100 to $10. I ask a few questions in the video so I wonder who's going to answer them.

Sadly the intercity 125 are being replaced soon where i live ( cornwall uk ) there being replaced by hitachi class 800 shame.. but the new ones do look cool
That big, beautiful 4-way switch is 100% TOMY. I wish I had it!
Edit: never seen the 125... but I want. Do want. Much want.
Yellow 'LEGO' bridge too.
And the gantry crane pieces, wow! What a haul
Thanks...but why is there NO NAME on it...weird
leokimvideo ye.. That is strange... But still Tomy
I know how you feel leokimvideo. I have the same piece. It is in the tomy 2004 Thomas and Friends ultimate set.
Yes that 1975 matchbox car brings back memories
It is tricky finding these on eBay. I have seen them but not too often and mostly in the UK it seems. I like the diverse figs that Tomy made in some of the obscure Tomy Train sets. I am loving finding dark blue track era stuff.
I've seen much less spam and much less theft of videos since the recent changes. And I have made MUCH less too. Not much of a trade off.
It is so stupididly annoying as you say to see the yellow dollar sign on kid friendly videos. Heaven forbid if ads run on a video that is showcasing products that people might want to buy. It is silly but I think they are improving. Might be too little too late.
That little LEGO torso I think is a more modern one with the internal supports inside the torso.
It is a shame that your videos don't get the views of the yelling a screaming toy channels. I showed my son 4 random examples of channels that get close to a million views a day and all had one thing in common - non stop over excitement over every detail. I find it exhausting but I guess the kids love it.
Be careful on CZcams right now....put it this way I see very few ad's being served and far too many Google ad's. It's a sign of real trouble.
You watch what happens next, the already totally overproduced kids area will be even more overproduced. And why start at one channel, just pump it until it wrecks it for everyone. Google really need to consider a channel limit for producers and monthly upload limit. How many bites of an apple do people want. Believe me this site is in some very serious trouble.
Train Tsar Fun I live in the U.K. And I rarely find them
Oh wow, I actually have most of these original Tomy sets! Even the intercity engine, somehow. I had a massive single-box set that included Thomas, James, Percy, Annie, Clarabel and some trucks as well. And that red crossing in good condition! The nostalgia!
My tracks also got damanged ends eventually, especially the turn tracks. I think it was literally just wear-and-tear considering I had the set handed down from my older brothers.
I've lost all the boxes to time but I do still have all the engines. (I don't intend on giving them away though)
Also, I think sometimes the little switch under the engines sometimes gets stuck in "Neutral" so to speak, which probably caused the Intercity in the video to fault.
Every child in my family went through a "Thomas phase". We had some of the Merit trains. The tops came off A and C so easy and they just bent into themselves as you can see on your ones. I believe blue track is from trying to force the tracks together with clumsy toddler hands, at least that's how the kids in my family have broken a fair bit of it. Nostalgic find :)
Wow this brings back memories! I used to have loads of the Tomy blue track stuff when I was younger. I had a lot of what you show in the video including the yellow platforms with signs, the stairs and bridge parts, the grey ramp and many of the trains. I also had that exact same imitation set. I don't remember my track ever getting damaged like the parts you have. I think 10 dollars was ok for what you got tbh.
I think its nice that the newer Annie and Clarabel have a more diverse range of characters in the windows. Shows how the Island of Sodor has changed since the original series. And congratulations to Australia for making the right decision yesterday!
i had these trains as a kid!!! still have them in a box in the roof somewhere they must be worth £££££
I remember the Merit Thomas, it had a red version of the trackmaster tracks with round connectors instead of the square ones. I'm guessing they weren't included with the bundle because said round connectors would wear out of shape very easily.
The old Tomy trains were a big part of my childhood, I made a big layout I would play with all the time as a child.
So Nice to see a toy box opened and looked at again even though it could have come from a tip.Keep the Iner City 125 Because it is a rare piece that was hard to find in shops as well. The Piece of resistonce in that box in my opinion was the 1975 Matchbox Car.
I did end up getting the old Tomy Thomas from the dark blue era, only cost $3.00 and it is only in ok shape, but still it was a great find
very good video to catch before slumber
Leo, the tomy stop-go piece of track, the one with no markings is one of the original stop-gos, also the cross piece of track is also tomy
I think that ramp piece actually comes from a plarail line where there are little trains that fit in the side cervices so that one track can fit two engines. That ramp is supposed to help place the little engines into the slots. I found out that the line is called Plarail advance
Also the 2 red pieces with the wheels are from Tomy Train Crane, it’s red and orange.
At my Nan’s house, I used to have a big box of dark blue tomy stuff..
lovely HST
I really thought you were going to attach the conductor with the magnets under his feet to the back of the carriage and drag him along the tracks haha
Perfect line!
THIS IS AWESOME
5:55 i have that red car, i never thinked it was that rare.
I founded it in the grass of my yard lol
I've found a huge lot of that classic blue track and those trains I got a lot 2 years ago in the U.K. I got for $150 and none of the purple track was damaged I also got the ramp piece where the gears connect the it but regular tomy struggles really badly
had the orgnial tomy set in the chairty shop like EARILY! before they got thomas, it had the black engine and some trucks sadly was pritty much broken the engine didn't start, the wheels were okay but the rubber was stiff and perished, the crossing part was broken too, but knowing the dealers there'll snap it up
These toys are cool I was born in 1991 and I missed out on these I was and still am obsessed with Star wars, trains, ships (mostly Titanic and warships), and legos also a Thomas fan I used to catch the show when it was made with models and the only Thomas stuff I had was wooden railway and Gordon and Henry were my favorites but most of my trains were HO scale sets and I had a layout table up in the playroom of our old place it was wonderful. Sadly I think it mostly vanished during moves and so they all gone I suspect my dad took them to goodwill without my knowing. I miss my toys wish I had my toy trains back. I still have some of the Star Wars toys mostly the 3 inch figures and the vehicles never letting those go.
Forgot to add my little brother and I also had loads and loads of Hot Wheels and car track also had those motorized roller launcher things that would shoot your cars down the track through loops and all that good stuff. Anyways rambling love your content. Keep doing what you are doing I think think will eventually get better as far as You Tube is concerned.
For the broken track could you heat it up almost to a melting point and fuze it back together? It's to much for just a little bit of repair in my mind but could it work?
id say keep the broken HST because you never know if you'll find it again and same for the track even if damaged id say overall it was a worthwhile buy and a worthwhile video!
I just bought a starter set just like that off of ebay and the description said that thomas runs great and its only missing the trees and signals but besides that the set looks in almost mint condition
The red and silver Tomy shell is based off an American EMD FP45 from the Santa Fe railroad
I've actually never owned a blue track in my life but I didn't actually have any money to get any but it's nice to see old Tomy items in 2017
Well, Thomas is a cheeky engine XD So don’t expect him to behave LOL
I like the older stickers. Way it should be.
jacksflims it's the only one know that started in the early years and made it to the modern years
*edit* he started at the birth of CZcams in 2006 go check his [about] tab he joined on 2006
Nice find, wow your correct. He had a really slow start and crept up over 11 years...VERY RARE TO SEE
czcams.com/users/jacksfilmsfeatured
Also smosh
I was born when the tomy era ended but somehow me and my friend played with Dark blue tomy somehow
Smoosh has been popular since the birth of CZcams
I cracked up when I saw the knex
I love the old TOMY stuff, unfortunately I haven't come across any of it on my charity shop rounds. I think $10 was a fair price for what you got, a lot of that track could still be used despite the cracks. I have no idea how that damage occurred, I have never seen it before. Maybe one of the kids decided to rip them all? It was funny watching you trying to get them all working, those toys are definitely showing their age!!
probably shouldn't be watching this late but couldn't resist. gotta keep eyes out for that hot wheels video ;)
For you Winter is Coming, stay safe. Sorry for the weird upload time not very friendly for those on the east coast USA
You're really lucky to have gotten these trains, sir.
I have a load of this stuff from my childhood but getting new good condition trains it now a nightmare. Japanese toy train sellers on Amazon have lots of cheap Thomas trains but they don't use the magnets like the old stuff.
Aww Leo, why does Australia get all the good Thomas stuff?
And the red Tomy locomotive shell is based on a US Santa Fe Warbonnet locomotive.
Skeletor Ruler of Eternia gotta love the warbonnets
Epic video as usual. Big fan here.
I think the intercity 125 is worth keeping, the damage isn't too too bad it still gets the idea across lol It kind of looks like the diesel trains out here
Hullo Pip / Emma!
So that x peace is a good peace I am still trying to get my hands on it. That rip is crazy I have my tomy and it's not like that and those tracks have been through ALOT
i would love to see you take one of those dud motorunits apart and try to refurbish or getting them into running order .You probably can't get them fixed but since they are already broken you basically don't have nothing to lose plus it would make a great video.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS loe
the double track switcher is actually real because I have one of those, well two and I don't think any company would make a fake one
pretty cool lol
@leokimvideo Hi the blue and yellow train is from 1987 Tomy No 4 large intercity Train set. The escalator is also from that set. It won toy of the year in 1988. x
The gears on the weels are for going up hills. The hills would have gear holds on them for the gears to hold on to.
Good and beautiful toy
I am your new subscriber
Great job! love the channel!
There are lots of lights in your video
The sound made me cry 😭
A very nice purchase Leo! That Intercity 125(s) in the Thomas franchise you're referring too are Pip and Emma, they've only appeared in the Railway Series and have never appeared in the TV series, but hopefully someday, like Rex, Mike and Bert, they'll return. Link: ttte.wikia.com/wiki/Pip_and_Emma
Wish I had those tiny sets
Tomy I meant auto correct is really fast
I have the Merit Thomas the tank engine with Annie and clarabel . The merit toys were produced right when the show came out and was exclusive to the U.K
HOLY COW
Great little video, I think $10 is fine, the job lot must be worth that or more for the spare parts. Recycle the curious split track parts, if they are upsetting to look at. I am sure you can improve or make up some decent drive units over time, then have some more running fun. :D
I bet you would enjoy hiding the sad hole in the HST aswell.
Regards, Cliff.
The damage on the track is from the adults watching the kids at church. The kids normally leave the tracks out when they leave and the adults don't care about the toys and just rip the tracks apart and toss them into a box.
OmG GOOd and Cool
I think I know how the track (may) have been damaged.
Some plastics, particularly older plastics (70's, 80's) are sort of semi-hard. They flex in one direction but can be very brittle in the other. A bit like wood. Wood tends to splinter along the grain. What you tested in the video was maybe more of a cross cut, but the damage is more of a rip cut parallel to the imaginary grain.
I can't say for sure but my guess is somehow the pieces at the got hit with a hard force (or fell) on the tip and it fissured the way up.
I really think that you should look into making a backyard railroad that you can ride on. I think that it would be a very amusing episode. You can print instructions from a 1965 issue of Popular Mechanics. I think it is the August issue. Anyway, it looks fairly inexpensive for what it is. I hope you found interest in this comment.
The red LOCOMOTIVE is a santa Fe fp45 from America
GOOD JOB with the video
not a bad find for $10..im sure ya can fix the broken tracks with ya repair skills
There were 2 Intercity 125s in the Railway Series, called Pip and Emma
My dad’s friend has some of these. Thomas, Annie and Clarabel, and Percy.
I have some old tomy track, mostly all just curves
You’ve seen shed 17?
what was wrong with the stickers on annie and clarabel ?
as soon he mentioned shed 17 i froze
Shed 17 is pretty awesome
Yes it is! I am just hyped up for Project G1
@@Steamerthesteamtrain it all ready out.

@@SomariTheAdventurerJam6 That comment was from a year ago.
that red and silver shell is a Santa Fe f45 or fp45 and tomy made an amtrak version as well
I do believe the model of that blue and yellow tomy in the Thomas franchise is named, Pip, and another one behind it named, Emma.
How come Thomas trains slip and don't run on this track?
:( watched this channel years ago when i was younger
hay leo I have a Thomas tomy that you push along and it steams its from 2006 I don't know what it is ?
Wow yeah
You are one lucky train collected for finding that bin of tiny stuff
that red and silver diesel is a santa-fe gm emc f3, seeing it run brings back memories
Thomas was my favorite TV show a long time ago
Wow
Thomas Fun03 I sub
Wow Shed 17. 13:08
The intercity/Thomas is basically squeaking because you need to lubricate the motor as the berrings are dried
The red and silver one looks like a emd f45 in Santa Fe warbonnet scheme
Sp8937 Productions. It does look like it
In Thomas And friends RWS there is a intercity 125 is pip and emma
Why was there no toys developed from them. This has been a weird Thomas mystery. I know this style of train is very popular.
It is a mystery indeed
I don't know if its worth keeping sorry ;[ but I do watch all your videos to the end ;D
32:56 Backwards Thomas😆 gone wild
Hey Leo, can you do some more videos like your thomas and friends fossil run. Thanks =)
i love tomy😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
trains tsar fun always does videos of the old tomy thomas stuff
Loveit
Down from the attic did a review and fix of some of the stuff here
CZcams
According to your timeline I started my channel when CZcams became hard in 2012 and I agree! With my old channel (cyril227ify) I found it really easy to get views (2009-2012), even though my content at that time was very amateurish and basic. I decided to start my new channel (ThomasTankCollectables) because I had become better at making videos and wanted a new start. But it was so difficult to get views and it took ages to build up subscribers etc. Even now my videos still get very few views. It may be because my content is very niche and I don't talk in my videos. But I do think CZcams is to blame to some extent.
Some of my tomy tracks broke in when i was little
The red diesel is based off of an American f40 ph with the classic Santa fe warbonnet livery
0:55 birth of ‘FRED’
They sure dont make them like they used to, thats for sure
You said you would show your first tomy set
27:17 the train is santa fe
That is a Santa Fe Locomotive from the United States of America.
i could imagine if it turned out the Merit Toys Thomas toy was from 2015
6:21 I have a matchbox cars in its box, it's on my desk right now.
I have a whole bunch of Thomas Tomy I picked up at Goodwill for a dollar for this big bag with blue track and dark blue
