Thank you for the helpful video. I was a very prominent nail tech in my area back in the mid 80’s thru and into about 2002. I am just doing my own nails now and with gel which is all very different for me as I was an acrylic girl. I still swear by those because the gel just is not durable enough for me at all! I can’t even get the nails the length I want because they wear so much. I’m using madam glam which is a good product too. Well I just wanted an old style battery operated “manicure pen “ as they used to be called for cleaning out the free edge underneath because my nails have very high sides and curl on one side on a couple and pinch together. I ended up with a melody Susie efile that is super small, and it is fantastic! The dry manicure is definitely new to me but I have a lot of cuticle growth so it is something I want to learn. I have so much I wish I could explain about my nail plate shape, I know you have seen them. I always believed there is only 7 nail plate/ bed shapes. I’m going to change from this gel to something else very soon as this is not working for my nail type and desired length. But my question now is how can we tell if the bit is touching the plate before it is too late and it’s been damaged? If it’s not burning, you can still file it too thin as any part of the plate and cause damage. My mother is from Berlin, Germany and I have some wonderful old manicure knives that I have used since the 80’s and on a very rare occasion I have cut right through my nail under the cuticle and never felt a thing! So I know it is possible to damage it with even the best bits if I don’t know how to tell I’m hitting the plate if I can’t feel it. Please help. I have not tried this dry manicure yet as I’m more comfortable with a regular. I now use cuticle oil 3+ xs a day and they are not so stuck to the plate as they used to be. Use that oil people!!!!! Also, when you talk about filing the flame bit so that it’s not so sharp, do you mean to file the very tip of it to make it more dull?
Also, what rpm speed should you do with this sphere bit, and should it be in forward or reverse?
Do you use something before the flame bit to push cuticles up? Like orange stick, cuticle pusher, or safety bit?

Great video! How close do you put the acrylic to the cuticle?
Ideally as close as possible, but for beginners about 1 mm margin is ok
What do you think is the best choice is for very thin damaged nails? To protect them? With minimal maintenance?
If they are thin AND damage I would recommend to wait at least 2-3 month until the nail bed fully outgrows and renews; and then overlay

Do nail bits for all brands of files? I just bought my first one. It was cheap because I can't afford a nice one. I'm not a professional. I'm not sure the bits are all that good and I may need to replace them. I'm wondering if I bought quality bits, would they fit my file?
I’m also getting into nails (as a hobby, I’m by no means a professional) and from what I know, there’s a relatively standard size for e-file bits (I believe 3/32” but I could be wrong), so most e-file bits have a stick that is 3/32” in diameter. Because of this, a lot of drills are made to fit that size drill bit. So I would say to check the packaging to make sure you are getting the right size bits! :)

U-tools in Canada is the best ones and the name of this drill bit is flame or Russian flame.
Just fyi - I checked that Russian website that you linked for the e-file bits and as long as you have Google Translate installed, you can easily switch it to English. The currency doesn't switch though - it's still in rubles.
But once you get to the payment page it doesn’t translate what info to put where. I got lost at that point.

Google translate the site, I found it wouldn't take me to basket in English so I google translated the buttons in the basket from there 🤣 The first menu link is products, the second item on the drop down is diamond bits, then there are pictures. It seems very affordable for product, but when you go to checkout the shipping quote is not available. You can type your city/country in English in country box (it translates it to Russian!), but then for me it said I would be contacted by manager with quote after order. I haven't tried getting any further.

I have a lot that I would like to tell you so that you have knowledge of my nail background when I post here and also I need a technician that I can trust to ask questions to. I know you say not to touch the nail bed but I swear it looks like you are. I know it’s impossible and probably dangerous if you had a super zoomed in and at slow speed so can see better. I know having a camera blocking your viewpoint is dangerous for the client. I might have to watch this in slow mode but I think it’s still too fast. Thank you for everything!
This is where I hate nail techs when they try to explain science. Low RPM = high frictional force where the hell did u get this formula. The actual formula F = μN.
Wdym? She's a proffessional using the e file and knows exactly what happens while using it slower or faster. When it's going too slow it'll have less power so you'll press it more, hense it will heat up more.
