there’s a video of Richard Sherman playing & singing it on Main Street in Disneyland. He’s very old in it but you’re right there’s something magical about hearing a song being performed by its composer ☺️
This was Walt Disney's favourite song in fact on Fridays he would call the Sherman brothers to his office there the three men (the brothers and Walt) would talk for a little while and then Walt would look at Richard Sherman and say "Play it" Richard would then sit down at a piano and play this song.
"All around the cathedral the saints and apostles look down as she sells her wares. Although you can't see it you know they are smiling each time someone shows that he cares...." MY HEART!!!!!!
My best try: Travers - "The bird woman outside St. Paul's has this great basket beside her filled with little bags of crumbs stands all day outside St. Paul's selling the crumbs to the passers-by, and this is what she says." Sherman - "'Feed the birds, tuppences a bag, tuppences, tuppences, tuppences a bag. Feed the birds,' that's what she cries* while over hill the birds fill the sky. All around the cathedral the saints and apostles look down as she sells her wares. Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling each time someone shows that he cares. Though her words are simple and few, listen, listen, she's calling to you. 'Feed the birds, tuppences a bag. Tuppences, tuppences, tuppences, tuppences." Travers - "Now, the parents when they are watching do not look at each other, each looking at themselves. You see, inside." *"Cries" as in calling out like a crier, not actually crying with tears.
Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's The little old bird woman comes In her own special way to the people she calls Come, buy my bags full of crumbs Come feed the little birds, show them you care And you'll be glad if you do Their young ones are hungry Their nests are so bare All it takes is tuppence from you Feed the birds, tuppence a bag, Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag "Feed the birds, " that's what she cries While overhead, her birds fill the skies All around the cathedral the saints and apostles Look down as she sells her wares. Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling Each time someone shows that he cares Though her words are simple and few Listen, listen, she's calling to you "Feed the birds, tuppence a bag Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag Though her words are simple and few Listen, listen, she's calling to you "Feed the birds, tuppence a bag Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
Considering how much P.L. Travers hated the film adaptation of her books, it seems very unlikely for her to be singing along to one of the songs in the film.
Travers is humming along with him….oh my, is this gold or what?!
You gotta appreciate Ms. Travers' insistence on taping the meetings!
Nixon and Watergate, lol.
Traversgate lmfao
So glad P. L. approved this song.
Pez Ben Me as well as this was one of two that she did approve of the other being stay awake
How wonderful to listen to this song being sung by its composers.

This is a song that can move almost anyone.
Probably the only time Disney and Travers were in sync on anything.
+Tom Gallowitz and this wasn't in saving mr banks why
+Tom Gallowitz thank god
I think she also liked Julie Andrews as MP
@@juanmanuelpousada7179 she said she was too pretty but had the correct nose for it 😂

Crying while listening
Thanks for this audio!!!!!!!
it would be wonderful to have subtitles! I'm italian and I can't understand very well...

thank you *__*
1tastiger1 I'm glad that Travers did approve of this one as it's such a great song
Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes
In her own special way to the people she calls
Come, buy my bags full of crumbs
Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do
Their young ones are hungry
Their nests are so bare
All it takes is tuppence from you
Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
"Feed the birds, " that's what she cries
While overhead, her birds fill the skies
All around the cathedral the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares.
Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares
Though her words are simple and few
Listen, listen, she's calling to you
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
Though her words are simple and few
Listen, listen, she's calling to you
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
The real travers sounds nicer than the movie depiction of her.
What does she say at the end?
"Now the parents, when they're watching, do not look at each other. Each looking at themselves, you see...inside."
@SCE2AUX2: AMAZING!!! Thank you so much.
@@sce2aux464 I just realized how much that sounds so simple and yet... so very deep.

PL Travers love the song but she doesn't like it when the boys sing it so they asked a woman who work in Disney to sing it
I think Emma Thompson makes Travers seem a lot worse than she really was.
From what I've read, she didn't go far enough.
Sorry, but SO wrong. Read about her life and you will see that Emma Thompson's portrayal was incredibly generous.

U will see..
Ya'll realize that the director shapes how the actors portray people, and they follow a script.
