Good comparison 😊.
That old Swiss Canteen is a nice piece of memorabilia. One can still get original 34 Canteens here in Switzerland at Military Surplus Stores for Chf 12.00 / $ 13.08 .. although, shipping to the USA I presume, will 'sour' that price.
I have the later Swiss '84 Canteen and Cup which is still in regular use. The 84 plastic canteen is close to 'bomb proof' and the aluminium cup makes for a relatively stable boiling vessel (enough for a good ration of coffee or to prepare my breakfast oats 😊). I have no real issues with Aluminium. At 74 and a 'Boomer', having grown up eating out of 'Hart' (brand name) Aluminium Cook Pots, it hasn't killed me or degraded my mental facilities (that I can notice .. maybe others think differently) .. yet 😏. That said, I do use Wooden or Synthetic Spoons / etc when using Aluminium Cook Vessels to avoid unnecessary scratching of the surface (just in case 😏).
Yes, Dave Canterbury has come up with a nice and practical-looking piece of kit that I'm sure, will give many years of good use.
Me? I have enough water containers .. aka have run out of my 'allotted' space in the home 🙄😏. For compactness (flat profile), I use plastic 500ml Mouthwash Bottles. I just drink directly from the bottle while the Pooch has one of those 'flatpack' concertina drinking bowls that has a loop that fits securely over the neck of the bottle.
Always a pleasure watching your posts and until the next one .. take care ..
I'm a year behind you and have used a lot of aluminum pots with no ill effects. 🙂
