    Interesting differences. One thing you might want to check would be if the new one still nests inside the GSI and/or Wall-mart SS cup. The older one could fit inside one of these cups, giving you two containers instead of just the one for the same space. I do like the new lid. I heard of issues with melting the older lid tab because it is plastic.

      It fits. I have it along with a titanium Trangia style stove with cross bars for it and a green canvas pouch/carry case I got off of Etsy for $35. Nice little setup overall 🦾

    👍👍👍 .. nice overview with the options 😊. With the various stacking variations and the options regarding additional storage for small items in the spaces created .. a caution of I may please .. Small, loose items when removed and not used immediately, tend to 'run and hide' .. forever 😏. Little baggies made from whatever, come in handy to keep them from emigrating. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

    The new Stanley Gen 2 cook set lid doesn't not sit correctly on the GSI or Ozark Trail nesting cups unfortunately. I'm going to see if it fits and will nest with the Coughlan's 21oz cup. Update ! The 21oz cup works perfectly the Gen 2 Stanley cook set 😀

    I think the Nalgene is a moot point because not only could you not use the cups and would have to stash the lid, but you also wouldn't be able to close the handle. Best option is to use it as intended and just carry a tin cup and Nalgene nested together. Now you have the pot to boil/cook/make coffee, and also have a cup to mix oatmeal or eat from while enjoying your coffee.

    • @chadtilghman255
      @chadtilghman255 Před dnem

      With that being said, here is a way to layer it: lid of new cup, new cup on top, cosmetic tin alcohol stove inside, topped with the old cup, then 1 original green cup inside, alcohol stove stand, coffee equipment, collapsible spoon, rag, etc, then original lid. Now they both nest practically for a kit

    • @planetsideagent
      @planetsideagent Před 20 hodinami

      That is a good option, The way I would go. I like my coffee hot so I'd defiantly carry the plastic cup.

      @@planetsideagent 👍 Plastic Cup definitely! I too, like my hot beverages hot .. very hot and with no scalded lips as a result thereof. My plastic mug w handle weighs almost nothing, can hang on the outside lf my pack if necessary and has served me well for over 15 years. In Winter, an insulated SS Mug with Plastic Lid and Folding Handles does service.

    I have both the old one and this new one. In my humble opinion, I prefer the new version and think it's worth upgrading. The new one is $20 at REI which is about the same price as the old one. I also purchased three other Wildfare items as well. I really like the Wildfare skillet because it's try-ply through and through and not just the bottom. If you liked with the old style , you'll love the new one.

    Hi! A very interesting video indeed! Thanks! I have a question/remark though: could the pulsating be due to over-priming? In hand pumped liquid stoves, pulsating is usually due to over overpressurizing the fuel bottle. Maybe here we see a similar effect, with the priming heats the tank directly, maybe slightly overpressurizing it. This pushes fuel vapours up and makes the whole system fuel rich and unstable. Then, once the stove runs for a while, the heat distribution changes: the bell and evaporator heat up, but the tank cools down somewhat, reducing the pressure hereby stopping the pulsations? Maybe the tight wick compounded the problem by acting as a plug and allowing the pressure in the tank to be even higher? Just a thought.

    • @planetsideagent
      @planetsideagent Před dnem

      I don't think its directly a pressure problem, One commenter suggested the feed wick may be too thick. I'm going to give that idea a try.

    • @planetsideagent
      @planetsideagent Před 2 dny

      probably i cut too deep when cutting the notches, they defiantly need to sit above the can rim for air flow otherwise a large pot could choke the fire. For the test it didn't matter since I wasn't going to use pots in the demo. Now I need to go back a check my stoves to make sure those trivets weren't used. 🙂

    Is an Altoids Tin close enough for keeping soot-free burning paste (made for table burners like raclette stoves) for a long time, or does the burning paste doesn't function anymore after some time? We do not have Altoids here in Germany, so I would have to import one in case. That's why I'm asking you before if the tin is leak proove (enough) for holding that burning paste. My very best regards from Germany and thumbs up for your video

    • @planetsideagent
      @planetsideagent Před 5 dny

      It will leak around the tin's hinge. You can place a strip of the foil tape to seal it. Check out my Small Altoids tin burner video. czcams.com/video/ITTrqxzgAls/video.html You can find blank Altoids size tins on eBay, which be a cheaper alternative, also the round cosmetic tins can be found there. The round tins may be a better option for burning paste.

    your Svea collection is MARVELOUS! Modern gas stoves are terrible! they have a gravity center which is too high and between pot and stove there is also no antiskid device of any sort! For my taste a pot with hot contents should be as close to the floor as possible, and also on a good base (wide and firm) that is why I prefer to use my Trangia 27/25 with gas-adapter and external canister!!! I also own a Primus 71 set like the one depicted here, since my childhood, and it is still in top condition! Incidently just a couple weeks ago we had problems with our kitchen, so I cooked with my old Primus once more (using our normal pots). I will definitively keep this set for future use, but I will not use aluminium pots any more! Tatonka makes a nice stainless steel set, which is a little heavy (for hiking, I used this set mainly with my canoe), otherwise I have my Ti pots... and of course the Trangia 27 with alcohol burner. When I saw the rockie cup I picked them up. I though that for day trips I could more easily boil water or melt snow. I would use them to scoop hard snow to fill my water bottles, much better than your hand, boot, or a stick. 🙂
