"Oh Corona!" - "Oklahoma!" adapted by the Marsh Family

- It’s been a weird start to 2022 for us, with lots of anxiety and uncertainty about the impact of the Omicron variant which is hamstringing UK healthcare at the moment - even while other parts of life such as school and football and work seem to be ploughing on regardless. We decided to return to musicals and something of a family classic - which was not a good fit earlier in the pandemic - and see if we could make it work to reflect that dissonance at the moment.
So here’s our parody of the relentlessly upbeat musical show number, the title track from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s wonderful Oklahoma! It opened on Broadway in 1943, and we've adapted it with some half-hearted American accents and bad faux-western dress that are often hallmarks of UK productions of the show.
The original musical (and play) told of a central character torn between a complicated self-denying happy-go-lucky half-dreamed optimism and a sinister and frightening alternative lurking in the outbuildings. So that’s 2022 in a nutshell.
P.S. Please note there is a rude piece of spelling at the very end of the song in case small ears are listening. We decided (as in a couple of other instances) that strong circumstances and feelings warrant occasional expletives.
_______________________________
If anyone's confused by a couple of the topical UK references, then we should probably explain that there is currently a senior civil servant leading an investigation into parties that occurred at Downing Street in 2020 - in contravention of the strict lockdown rules that had been imposed on the rest of us in the country. And in recent weeks, the army has been deployed to help assist parademics and hospital staff and vaccination clinics cope with the shortages and difficulties caused by the Omicron variant - of which there have been over 150,000 cases daily during/since the holidays. We're all hoping that the worst of the wave might be receding in the days and weeks to come, to bring some respite, esp. for those on the frontline.

Here's a standing ovation from a native Oklahoman! Bravo!
Amazing as usual - love the return to musical songs. And that jab at Downing Street made me laugh out fairly loud :D
Definitely agree with you
Me too!
Me too 🤣🤣🤣
🤣😂👏👏👏👏👏👏💕🤗😷
Just seen this! Brilliant as usual
I must add, I love the home movie at the end, its fun to see the kids when they were younger, and see they have always been such happy, beautiful people.
Be sure to stay tuned for the end of the video. ^____^ Love it. ^____^
"Never work with children or animals.
Some of them have been learning this song for a very long time.
Since January 2013."
^____^
There doesn`t seem to be any type of music you can`t nail. Great singing, clever lyrics. A fun and upbeat song to brighten gloomy January, and still with a serious message.
Natural born performers even at a young age. Cheers!
The look on Danielle's face when Ben started dancing was classic
From Oklahoma USA here, you done did the song justice =) Bravo! By the way, you should hear this song sung here in Oklahoma during a football game, everyone gets into it and it’s actually very moving… ❤️❤️❤️
If Liverpool fans get to read this they will adopt it they love singing show tunes.
"It will sure feel sweet, when Downing street, can have Christmas parties once again"
Gotta love The Marsh family's sense of humor!
Fabulous!!! The Marsh Family at their best, if I may. You guys should be on stage in the West End. Nippy-Ow had me laughing out loud, all on my own in my sitting room!!! An absolute tonic so thank you.
I agree...you guys are very good and schould be on Broadway and the
London Stage...the best of luck.....
I would probably come over from Belgium to watch a full blown show of this. It would be so worth it.
I want them to do the real one now.
They really are that good.
Not sure if they realize but just get a few more people with as much talent and they could probably do the full musical.
In their kitchen and living room. ^___^
Or on the stage would work too. ^____^
So thoughtful of you to include the words so I can sing along
Love this family. Great singers and a sense of fun.
To sing is better than to cry! How true that is. Another great version. I can hear someone's voice maturing in there too! Keep it up, we love you!
Marsh family- you are wonderful. Thankyou for all the fun , I’m sure you have kept many people amused during the last few months. 🌟🎶👏
😂 As someone who has a family which was in "Oklahoma" (at that time, where we were, it was known as Indian Territory) BEFORE it became Oklahoma, I loved this version. How appropriate! I might just speak for myself but thank you for making me laugh and for allowing me to be a part of your songs as and virtual audience member. Take care and Keep it up!
It wasn't a state yet in the musical, either, of course.
("When this territory becomes a state", etc.)
Oh my gosh! The part at the end that starts at 4:12 when the kids were little is so so so adorable! I love it… Also the bit just before that with the dogs and hats is so cute… Thank you… This family is so lovely, they make me happy…
It’s really great that Alfie & Thomas are able to synchronise their voices going down at the same time :)
So funny! And taking a singularly American, Rodgers and Hammerstein classic and making it so personally British, was amazing! Well done!!
Brill Loved the jab (jibe)at No10
Speaking of the jab, before the vaccine came out I was thinking "As much as I hate needles, this is one time I'm looking forward to it. Because I'm easily traumatized, and getting corona (and spreading it around) will *frighten me* as well as make me physically sick!" So when I did get nippy-ow, I was thrilled.
"Christmas parties once again".
(When they actually already were.
As was parodied in another Marsh Family song ["Sue Gray's Inquiry"].)
Spectacular rendition. And seeing the clip during credits was lovely.
Your family's performances have given me such pleasure over the past 2 years. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I couldn't imagine an upside to the Omicron wave, yet here it is--motivation for another great Marsh Family song! Well done.
I liked the dancing after the credits. When I was their age I used to dance like that to The Music Man.
Love this so much!!! 😉😃☺☺😉😃
Utter genius. And love the glimpse of the younger children a few years ago!
Bravo! Severely underrated. Published in January, but hopefully the video will get a second wind and go to 1M+ views like it deserves. The fact that it just came into my CZcams feed (being someone who enjoys watching this kind of video) is a good sign the almighty algorithm is catching up!
Absolutely fantastic! Everyone was amazing, as always! Danielle's face when Ben did his little dance was a delight in itself, lol.
Oi oi, fancy seeing you here. 😁
Just discovered your channel. Hilarious and entertaining! Just subscribed 🤣🥰
Brilliant, Absolutely loved it , smiled all the way through xxxx
How delightful! I’ve been taking care of Covid patients in the hospital through this latest surge, and I’m exhausted! But you have made me laugh out loud, despite my very long, depressing day. Thank you so much from Detroit, MI!!!
Once again, you brought a huge smile to my face. Talented, funny, and irreverent. Perfect combination. I love you guys! (And stay through to the very end for a brief little extra treat.)
Laughing so before the ending, had to go back. Did I hear that right?! Yes I did! Then I laughed some more! Thank you!
Such talent👍
A brilliant rendition, spot on, what a great family. ❤️❤️❤️😘
This family is ultra talented….what a joyous tune and great looking family where each family member has a great unique voice. Wow….
Absolutely magnificent. Loved the dancing too !!!
Had a smile on my face throughout! The kids have become confident singers and performers, and Ben could be the next Crocodile Dundee. Keep it up Marsh Family!!
What's not to like? Topical fun with great panache. Much appreciated here in Thailand!!! Can't wait for the next one...
Another first-class rendition. The Marsh Family just gets better and better. Keep them coming, please. ❤❤❤
My favorite section was the multi - part harmonies in the middle. Exquisite
Beautiful family and so talented. Hello 👋 and cheers from the USA!
Just saw this one....I love it and the bits in the end when the children were little is so cute.
When you press the like button before hearing a single note and know full well you won't regret it
Just found myself grinning broadly on a tuesday afternoon working from home - that's a first! Brilliant - loved the harmonies and especially the little look back at the small ones at the end. Thank you!
Tears of Laughter streaming before the halfway point! Took a good 5 mins to ‘recover’.
Utterly brilliant!
As I guy from Oklahoma....I loved this. It amazes me that you have heard that song over there. Smaller world than I imagined. And the joke about Downing Street Christmas parties....so good. :)
Hi guys!!!! An American here who is a big fan of your talented and vastly entertaining brood...... AWESOME!! I think this one may just be my favorite!
Missed this one! Cheering even 2 years on!
Ohhhhh amazing! That was so awesome, loved the outfits, accents, choreography and the WORDS!

Another belter! I love the fact that you’re in your own home! Down to earth and real!
Having held the lead role (Curly) in this musical I very very much appreciate the humour and talent!!! Made my day.
Was having a 'BLEEEEEEP' day until I watched this 😁 Thanks so much for brightening my day. Now I'm going to rewatch some more of your videos!
Loved it. So appropriate within present circumstances. One of my favourites. Nice to see the children enjoying themselves earlier on.😀
Been waiting for this one!!!! Brilliant, as ever. Can't wait for the Marsh Family Musical!
‘Dad’ Marsh’s little dance set the whole stage 🤣
Amazing lyrics and voices!
Coming from Oklahoma here. I loved your version!

I love the songs from the musicals, well done. I enjoyed seeing the children when they were little - brilliant.
Brilliant. Loved seeing the ending with the 3 eldest kids when they were tiny tackers, singing n dancing freely as their dad was belting out Oklahoma …years ago. Great parody yet again. One of my faves
Wonderful! To see and hear a family like yours is a real joy.
Absolutely brilliant. Couldn't stop laughing. You are an amazing family and bring so much happiness to so many people. Thank you all.
Another gem by the awesome Marsh Family! You are all superstars. You definitely should have your own theatre. Not that there's anything wrong with your home but you could fill any stage around the world with your amazing talent.
Thank you one and all👏👏👏
Love the ending. Blessings to all ❤
Another hit!!!
Hanging on every word, and laughing myself silly. 😂🤣
Great job everyone!
Once again you have nailed it. Such joy to watch you. Thank you.
Okay this was a super fun satire song of covid using my home state’s state song! Very clever! And considering that I literally was just a few hours ago racing for shelter as the tornado sirens went off where I live the wind was definitely coming right behind the rain! LOL Eh, but severe thunderstorms are normal for May. Loved the clothing, too! And OMG your doggos look like the ones my parents have!!! Glad CZcams recommended your channel to me!
What you do all together is simply wonderful! Thank you!
How clever!
What wonderful, talented people you are!
I loved Oklahoma since childhood and was so delighted to see the Marsh Family do this parody. We love you here across the pond!
Brilliant, as usual! Loved it. Nice to have an upbeat tune too! 2013 version was really cute too!
WOW, I hope this BIG TIME viral. Beautiful family. Keep up the good work, BE SAFE...hugs
Brilliant job as always! your family is truly talented!
I just found your channel! Gonna share you on my channel! I am addicted! You guys are a hoot! Absolutely adore the family! Oh and the dogs!
Many congratulations to the Marsh family, from the Marsh family! :-)
Excellent! Bravo! What a marvellous and highly talented family you are. Was smiling the whole time. Well needed wholesome entertainment in these murky times we're living through. Thankyou so much
This was fabulous. A British family doing this quintessentially American song. And the Dad has really got talent - turning Oklahoma to Oh Corona! Loved it. I know this song all my life practically, and from beginning to end, the arrangement is totally true to the original. Fantastic job! Family is as wonderful as ever.
Another gem. You are brilliant, all of you. I laughed seeing 2013 recording. Three little cuties prancing around. So funny. And 9 years later? Total gem of a song. Thank you so much.
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I can’t say enough how much I love your singing and your whole family. You have made the world a better place.
Great to see this family putting this together - excellent. Oklahoma was the first play I ever saw!
Absolutely marvellous thanks so much for posting this on a grey January day. Well done to all the family.
This family is wonderful. All are so gifted and work together as a talented team.
Give this family a stage.😁👍🏽👍🏽 I think the parents watch " Sound of Music " many times. Their voices are marvelous.
Truly truly wonderful…cheered me up no end!…thank you all!…Brian.
We just love your productions. First rate every time. Loads of love.
Being from the Midwest of the U.S., and having acted in this musical in high school back in the day (and admittedly, unabashedly loving it); this is so fantastic! Thank you for this rendition!
Fantastic singing, guys! Lovely voices all round, not to mention the editing, choreography, writing and arranging.
Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for cheering us all up.
You guy's really make me wish you had an album out. Thanks for putting a smile on me girls faces. This song gets my 4 and 2 year olds dancing. Would love to hear a version of meatloaf, also make some of your own songs
That was... fantastic! Thanks for the quick cheer-up today.
thank you for this It’s you guys and Randy Rainbow that got me through the last two years 💞
That's just fantastic! One of my favourite songs to sing when I was part of a musical society. And you have captured it perfectly with the frustration of the time thrown in for good measure. Well done one and all!
Hilariously fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much Marsh family. Corona has managed what the previous strains have not and along with our right wing leadership Australia is finally inundated with COVID-19. May all front line workers be safe and loved, if not we're doing something terribly wrong! Yep, we're doing it wrong! Hugs to each and every one of you
Such fun and so brilliantly arranged and sung … all of you such great voices :))
Genius - made me smile and gave me goosebumps, it was so good.
This one is another classic! The lyrics were stunning. I laughed until I cried.
This is put a smile on my face …and of course I’ve been singing “Oklahoma” all day.
The Marsh family sing beautifully and look out Broadway! 👍
Loved the boys “faux” mid-western accents, but not sure they will thank you for the 2013 clip. Another great production to brighten up a rather dull and damp January day. Cheers
Absolutely wonderful!! What a fantastic parody and a way to find some smiles through this entire ordeal! Stay safe and stay healthy! And thank you for sharing your talents and lovely voices!
