    I have a Thermador cooktop. The cooktop was installed when the home was built in 2014. The igniters (all five) continue to fire after the chosen burner is lit. Actually, all five will fire are designed to fire whenever a burner is lit but once the chosen burner is lit, they should all stop firing. A repair technician indicated we needed new star units which house the igniters for two burners. The replacement parts cannot be found. Bosch (Thermador) does not have them because they indicate they only replenish parts for 7 years. (2022 - 2014 = 8 years) So, I check 15 online parts sales outlets. Many were backordered for this part. The takeaway is the parts won't be sent since Bosch will not reoder from their supplier. The others would not take the order since they knew it was discontinued. We now have an 8 year old product that must be replaced. The replacement unit will not be a Thermador or Bosch.

    Remember that the Thermador extra low burner igniting, going off then re-igniting to get the low btu's, makes a clicking sound that drives some customers nuts.

      That would be me. I love(d) my Thermador but I hated the clicking. It was still working after 15 years and I decided to replace it with an Electrolux. It worked well for 19 months. Needs a new burner valve. Maybe the clicking wasn’t so annoying after all.

    we have Kitchenaid KDRS505XSS stove, after a few years the gas valves started giving problems with locking up....replacements are over 100.00 each. So after 9 years we have had to replace 5...so that 500.00 in parts in 9 years......my suggestion is buy something else.

    The Thermador star burner is a clever burner feature. We have an old Bosch, so I think this would drop right into the old counter location. I was looking at the Hestan, which has larger standard round burners; the center one has inner and outer burner circles, which is clever, but the other ones are larger. I am sure they work well, but this Thermador has the flame more toward the center and would be less likely to run up the outer sides of a smaller pot. (I would think?)

    When you recommended the Bosch, I tuned out. I just finished rebuilding one. All of the igniters turned defective within 5 years (the same ones as in your recommended unit.) They’re still available from Bosch, at $25 per, but the hardware used to attach them (screws) are utter junk, and 3 of them had to be drilled out and retapped for new stainless steel hardware. This shouldn’t have happened, but did for the sake of Bosch saving fifty cents (maybe) by totally cheaping out here. I would never buy another one, and recommend that nobody else do so either. On the bright side, at least they ARE rebuildable, if you’re sufficiently tooled up. Caveat emptor.

    One thing I don't understand is that when the knobs are placed in front (as opposed to on the side like the Wolf) how do you slide a heavy pot off without having to lift it over the knobs? That seems like a major disadvantage. If the grill was higher than the knobs that would not be a problem.

    • @DesignerAppliances
      @DesignerAppliances  Před 4 lety +5

      You are correct, that is one disadvantage. We recommend considering a rangetop if that is a primary concern. For a rangetop, the knobs are in front of the unit like the knobs on a range (brands like Wolf make these). Here's some more info on cooktop vs. rangetop if you're interested: blog.designerappliances.com/cooktops-vs-rangetops/

    Looking for a 36 inch, 4 burner. With the power burner in the center, the largest pot goes in the middle and the 4 outer ones are basically unusable. I hate this design.

      Hi Michael, most gas cooktops operate using natural gas, but manufacturers usually offer propane conversion kits for installations where natural gas isn't available. Hope that helps!
