Why the hell is that kid brain works like mine. I do calculations like he did lmao.
Because why complicat it lol everyone has a unique brain and it shows that there many ways to do the problems correctly
Me too
So you think like a kid
It's something called automation, a good school will test it frequently. Basically the more arithmetic you do the more you memorise certain equations and instead of calculating from scratch you go by close estimations you know by heart. It's also a trick you can use to estimate square roots, if you know the root of 100 is 10 and 121 is 11 you can estimate that the root of 110 will be roughly 10.5 (10.488 exactly).
Samesies 😍
His 8+7 logic is literally how I do math
Yeah... it's the easiest way.
Same
Same here
I do it a different way. I reach the closest 10s (or its multiples) first and then add the rest. Say here it's 8 to 10 (that's 2 taken from 7), so the remaining 5 gets added to get to 15.

Thank you for saying this! I am so sick of people that know nothing about common core shitting all over it because it's different from how they learned. How’d he manage to make math sound even more complicated than it already is?? 😭
it's his own way lul it's simpler to him
Most of the students do it the same way he did.
It's actually easier to to break numbers and recombine them. For instance:
17 + 7=
17 + 3 + 4=
20 + 4 =
24
What he did was:
17 + 7 =
10 + 7 + 7 =
10 +14 =
24
You can do rediculously complex problems simply by breaking one of them apart. Math has changed since I was growing up. I'm teaching my son now.
He broke apart 14 to 10 + 4
To make
10 + 10 + 4
And then
20 + 4
A bit redundant but everyone has their process
