How Israel's far-right seized control, and their dangerous plan | Daniel Levy | The Big Picture EP2

  • After four years of political turmoil, Israel's far-right Zionist agitators have emerged victorious, seeking to expell Palestinians, implement Jewish loyalty laws and tear up the peace process once and for all.
With the help of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have dominated Israeli politics, and are set to take over the most powerful positions in government, despite the alarm of the international community.
Daniel Levy is a former Israeli peace negotiator who was instrumental in the 1994 Oslo Accords. He now heads the US Middle East Project and advocates for Palestinian rights at the United Nations and other international bodies.
In this episode of The Big Picture, Levy breaks down the rise of Israel's far-right, and what their electoral victory says about Israeli society today.

We in SA had separate entrances to public spaces, transport, toilets, public beaches were for whites and non whites. No marraiges between whites and blacks, after we got the one man one vote everything changed and although we are still searching for the ultimate utopia the change is happening and can clearly be seen by the new generations. Rugby was regarded as a white sport, we have won the world cup so many times, the whole country rich, poor, black white and everybody in between is represented by the team. At the moment we are experiencing load shedding or a lack of electricity, but we are still a light to the world morally by the action we are taking against Israel. That is part of our united culture.

Semitic peoples are afro-asiatic. Race is a political construct. Once white Europeans rediscovered much older African Egyptian and Asian Mesopotamian civilization, much older than Greece and Rome, they had to make sense of that. They could no longer pretend that they were the font of civilization, so they had to co-opt that civilization. That's why they declared them "white".

What a Canadian Psychologist Knows about Israel that Israelis Do Not
Jordan Peterson, a Canadian media personality, clinical psychologist, author, and professor emeritus at the University of Toronto, describes himself as a “classic British liberal.” The media often describes him as conservative. Be that as it may, his words to a 3,000 strong audience at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem should not fall on deaf Israeli ears because when he says emphatically, “You have a tremendous moral responsibility,” and “Show the world what the holy city could look like - because we need it,” we should understand that he speaks for billions and the onus really is on us.
A couple of weeks ago, at an event hosted by The Daily Wire in Jerusalem, Peterson said, “Everyone looks here to see how you are doing under this tremendous assault of adversarial criticism - as this little tiny people in the middle of no-man’s land - as a cardinal model of the nation state and the city on the hill. You have a tremendous moral responsibility like you have perhaps had for your entire history for reasons that are very difficult to understand.”
The problem is that what non-Jews feel about Israel and Israelis, we refuse to admit because while they can simply express how they feel, we have to respond to those emotions. It is a heavy burden to be responsible for the world’s problems. It is perfectly understandable that we refuse to admit it and strive to either deny it or assimilate among the nations. But the nations will clearly not allow us to do either.
We have been decrying our fate for centuries; we have written books about it, and we even titled one of them Israel, the Ever-dying People. However, when it comes to doing what we must, to making ourselves “a shining light on a hill,” as Peterson put it, we turn our backs on our mission and blame each other for the hatred turned against us.
The obligation we avoid is our obligation to each other, to unite “as one man with one heart” and become the “cardinal model” that Peterson and the rest of the world want to see. They do not need our high-tech industry or our sophisticated weapons. They need our unique, authentic moral system, the one that was established on the basis of love of others. Only if we establish our society in Israel based on this value, we will win the world’s approval.
The world is aching for it. Some of the people will ask this from us nicely, the way Peterson articulated it. Others will demand it through violence. Either way, we will know no peace or peace of mind until we provide the world the example of unity and solidarity that we must.

The language of the 1917 Balfour Declaration was put directly into the San Remo accords 1920. This BINDING decision was soon unanimously ratified by 56 member states of the League of Nations, and later became part of the United Nations Charter, thus paving the way for the third Jewish commonwealth, reborn on its ancestral soil after 2000 years.
Yet this momentous occasion, on which the international community recognized and then ratified the inalienable right of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel for the first time in modern history, is forgotten.
Instead, attention was diverted to the radio broadcast of the UN vote for Partition on Nov. 29, 1947, where the UN General Assembly voted in favor of a resolution adopting the UN Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP) partition plan of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states and for which 33 states voted in favor, 13 against, and 10 abstained.
Legally speaking, the two events cannot be put on the same scale.
The San Remo Accords Were Binding Law, ratified by member states, which took quick effect. Even the United States, which was not a member of the League of Nations, took measures to recognize the accords.
Conversely, The Adopted Unscop Partition Plan Was Merely A Non-Binding Resolution voted on in the toothless General Assembly (not the Security Council), and was immediately rejected by the Arabs - in other words, the whole exercise of the partition plan vote was null and void.
At the San Remo conference, delegates never contemplated giving “Palestine” to the Arabs - the absurd idea of taking Judea away from the Jews and creating an Arab state there.
For the delegates, giving Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq to the Arabs and giving the Jews their historic and biblical land was equitable enough.
This was in line with the Wilsonian “self-determination” doctrine - indigenous peoples would gain independence from former empires and govern themselves. Indeed, no one was about to give recognition to the imperialistic Islamic conquests of the 7th century, nor to the 400-year Ottoman domination that the Allies had just terminated.
The text of the Mandate is clear on the issue of land division: “The Mandatory shall be responsible for seeing that no Palestine [Jewish] territory shall be ceded or leased to, or in any way placed under the control of, the Government of any foreign Power.”
Indeed, original Israel, as recognized by San Remo-crafted international law, was going to be a big Jewish state, surrounded by newly freed and even bigger Arab states. That was the vision.

Infact by the time of the Roman take over, Samaritans were particularly seen as non Jews by the people of Judea (where the name comes from, whether specifically Judea or Judea and Jerusalem). So It's nonsense to give them land that even at the time was lived in by non Jews, what claim do they have to the land? Conquest? But they were conquered time and again during the rain of their kings. Especially the north(Israel) was conquered successively by Assyria, Chaldea, Persia, and later the Macedonians. But the south as well was conquered. So what basis is there for their control of the entire territory? In particular knowing that Palestinians are infect indigenous Canaanites. I don't understand what claim they have, that supercedes anyone else's claim. And if the Muslim conquest claim is non valid, and the Ottoman claim of conquest is not valid, then why is an Israeli conquest claim valid?

    In the Qur'an
Surat Bani Isra'il (The Children of Israel), also known as Surat al-Isra'. According to Khaleel Mohammed, an Islamic Law scholar, medieval exegetes of the Qur'an, such as Ibn Kathir, interpreted this Sura as saying that the land of Israel is promised to the Jews
Imam Abdul Hadi Palazzi, leader of Italian Muslim Assembly and a co-founder and a co-chairman of the Islam-Israel Fellowship, quotes the Qur'an to support Judaism's special connection to the Temple Mount. According to Palazzi, "The most authoritative Islamic sources affirm the Temples." He adds that Jerusalem is sacred to Muslims because of its prior holiness to Jews and its standing as home to the biblical prophets and kings David and Solomon, all of whom he says are sacred figures also in Islam.
He claims that the Qur'an "expressly recognizes that Jerusalem plays the same role for Jews that Mecca has for Muslims".[3]
When asked what the Qur'an says about the State of Israel, Palazzi replied:
The Qur'an specifies that the Land of Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people, that God Himself gave that Land to them as heritage and ordered them to live therein. It also announces that - before the end of time - the Jewish people will come from many different countries to retake possession of that heritage of theirs.
Whoever denies this actually denies the Qur'an itself. If he is not a scholar, and in good faith believes what other people say about this issue, he is an ignorant Muslim.
If, on the contrary, he is informed about what the Qur'an and openly opposes it, he ceases to be a Muslim.
Khaleel Mohammed, Islamic Law scholar of the San Diego State University, noted that Sura 5 verse 21 of the Qur'an, and the medieval exegetes of the Qur'an, say that Israel belongs to the Jews.

But when the Oslo process was launched for peace between Israel and PLO, that clause was removed from the Palestinian charter, granting recognition to the Jewish state. Likewise, the Israeli government in late 1980s and early 1990s lifted ban on maintaining contacts with PLO and recognised it when the historic PLO-Israeli accord, mediated by then US President Bill Clinton, signed on September 13, 1993. If PLO recognised Israel, Hamas opposed peace process with the Jewish state and called for the destruction of Israel.

This man is delusional. Around 21% of Israeli citizens are Arab Muslims and 5% are other non-Jews, ALL who have equal rights to Jews. Israel was founded on the basis of the Jewish people reconstituting their national homeland. They have been acknowledged by the international community as the *indigenous* people of historic Palestine. This idea is not supremacist. Japan has Japanese values, the French have secular values, Pakistan has Islamic values, so why can't the Jews have a nation with Jewish values?
From the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in 1918 by the Allied Powers, the Arabs today have self-determination over more than 99% of the Middle East. The Jews want LESS than 1% of that ME land. Anyone living in Gaza or Judea and Samaria (West Bank) who is still *hostile* to the Jewish state of Israel should apply for resettlement in another country. But it's not possible because UNRWA, like Hamas and Fatah, are corrupt and want to milk the perpetuation of this tragedy for their own gain, and the Arab League forbade giving citizenship to the displaced Palestinians. They are sadly being used as geopolitical pawns against the Jews.

@@mojo5517: How can you be an *occupier* if you are the indigenous people of that land? The international community in 1920 (at the San Remo Conference) recognised the Jewish people as indigenous to their ancestral homeland. They were granted the right to self-determination in that land which comprises less than 1% of the defeated Ottoman Caliphate. All Arabs and others who were living there at the time were given *equal rights* under the law, and TODAY Arabs sit in the Knesset, they serve in the judiciary and security services, etc.
Arabs who live in the Palestinian Territories have their own laws and their own corrupt violent leaders. They should realise they are being used as geopolitical #weapons against the Jews. This situation will never end until UNRWA is dismantled and the Arab 'refugees' are treated in the same way as all other refugees in the world. The Arabs were granted self-determination over 99% of the defeated Ottoman Caliphate land. Those countries today are Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. The Arab League refused to give citizenship to those Arabs who were 'displaced' from the Palestinian Territories, keeping them in limbo, even though the majority are from families which migrated to the British Mandate of Palestine after 1920 from the surrounding Arab countries, plus Yemen, Bosnia, etc.
The suffering of the Jewish people under the Nazi regime has little to do with this. It was the fact that the Ottoman Empire joined the side of the Germans in WWI and were DEFEATED that the Jews were promised their ancestral homeland if the Allied Powers won, which they did in 1918. Then at least five Arab nations went to war multiple times against the legitimate sovereign state of Israel in 1948 and they were DEFEATED each time. The land of Israel has strategic and ideological value to the western nations, so the west will always support the Jewish people of Israel. Get used to it.
Around 18 million South Asians were displaced in 1947 when Pakistan was created. Around 1.5 million Greeks and Turks were forced to shift countries in 1924 when Turkiye was created. About 800,000 Jews were ethnically cleansed from Arab countries after the creation of the Jewish state of Israel in 1948. That's just a few examples of other refugee movements, which we hardly hear about today. Those people assimilated into their new lands and got on with their lives.
Why should we treat those Arabs who were displaced from the British Mandate of Palestine any differently to other refugees? Why do they still get BILLIONS of dollars of funding? Why are they held as PERPETUAL refugees, generation after generation? Tell me one other refugee group that gets this 'special' treatment? #Discrimination
