If the world had Gideons attitude we would have had peace years ago. Anybody that reads Ben Gurion early stuff such as letter in 1937 to his son you get the idea they never intended to have 2 states. Gideon is spot on also about Israel not being close to a western democracy. That is the reason they prop up the PA so they can not have citizens but just say hey they under the PA.
Zionist movement and ben gurion didn't participate in UN 48 resolution of two stages. Palestine rejected unilaterally and dayafter engaged in a war to kill all jews not just displace. Remind you partition 48 gave the Palestinians all best lands. Was a very bad agreement to Jews

These things came to my mind about my native Washington State. Where did all the original inhabitants go? At one point, a generation after the Duwamish helped initial European immigrants, these original natives were shipped to a reservation across the water NE of Bremerton. Their biggest communities are now a state park and an empty fallow wetland. Their most important river was diverted to support a new set of locks in Ballard. We ARE the thieves here. These people need to be re-invited back into our communities, with abject apologies, and active financial support, and with the the quest on setting things right.

It is wonderful to hear this interview. I have had an online subscription to Haaretz for years and always looked for Gideon Levy's reports. I think the British must share some of the guilt due to the Balfour promises and also promises to the Palestinians which were contradictory as I recall. When my eyes were open both by Jewish Voice for Peace and a book by Ilan Pappe, I have financially supported many Palestinian Justice groups. I think with continued pressure the US may decrease its huge financial support for Israel. I believe Israel gets more of our tax dollars than any other nation on this planet.

It's very late in the day to be horrified. When Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982 and the violence and mass killings that ensued, it should then have been clear what the Zionist project was really about. I was a 19yr old law student at the time. And it was plain to see. The focus shud be on how the Palestinians are going to be granted a just outcome in a very limited piece of real estate. Israel continues to permit Jews from faraway places to occupy Palestinian land. Those occupiers must know that they will be the first to be sacrificed, then the politicians, and finally the generals. That's Israel's reality.

As an Arab, this a man I can respect and trust.
This interview, occurring before October 7 was prophetic. Gideon Levy gives me hope that some day there will be justice in Palestine, but for now it looks like Israel will have to reach the depths of depravity, before the world recognizes the crimes being committed there. Unfortunately, much of the world is using Palestine as a testing ground for military techniques to suppress dissent in their own countries. I don't see how there is ever going to be democracy in Israel without the Western world first coming to terms with its settler colonial past and present.

Imagine being able to travel freely between Jerusalem and Beirut. They are two cities, so close but so far away.
Gideon Levy an honest Jewish man that actually tells it as it is, with no deviations from the truth or papering over the cracks whatsoever.
I had a dream many years ago of how peace could be achieved. It would mean giving the settlements back to the Palestinians and 35:31 giving the refugees their right of return.

Mr. Gideon gives a good example that not all Jews are the same , many Jews are kindhearted with high values , while others act as the enemies of themselves , and they insist on dehumanizing themselves. Why many Israelis are so arrogant ? May be because they live in biblical delusions or may be because they are so insensitive to the suffering of the others .
I think most Israelis don't live in biblical delusions. I think we are educated and indoctrinated from a very young age to fear and despise Palestinians, we never get to meet them on a human level. The first Palestinian I met was when I was 20, in a music festival in the US.
It's easy to become insensitive when you grow up with buses exploding around you, and when you are constantly exposed to de-humanizing messages from media and people around you.

@37:00 I also wish that there had been a discussion on why Israel doesn't have a constitution (UK, Canada, NZ and Saudi Arabia also don't). I've heard that it is because it allows for a more flagrant abuse of rights if you don't declare the rights of those who are citizens of your nation, but it would have been nice to hear GL's thoughts on it.
