  • Classic / Vintage / Antique pickups have become very popular recently. Whether it is Ford, Dodge, GMC or Chevy, 90’s pickups are now 30 years old. Finding a good survivor or project truck is getting difficult as the value of these trucks climb. You aren't going to get any fuel savings out of these gas guzzlers but they look great and are fun to drive. Parts are still readily available so whether you choose to restore, rebuild, repair or simply maintain, you don't have to spend a lot of money. This Video is about getting a pickup running and driving.
    This one owner survivor is in surprisingly good condition for a northern truck with 235,000km. The original owner provided me with a maintenance log detailing every service and repair since new. When I picked it up it had protective coverings on the seat and carpet.
    This F150 is pretty close to fully loaded for a Ford of its day. It came with:
    Power Windows
    Power Locks
    Power Mirrors
    Cruise Control
    Tilt Steering
    AC
    Dual Fuel Tanks
    Rear Sliding Window
    5.0 Liter
    Automatic
    Box Rails
    Aluminum Rims
    To bring this back to its former glory I plan on giving it a full detail and solve the rough running issue. The truck struggles to idle, hard to start, stalls out, runs rich and is blowing black smoke. I will start with a smoke test for vacuum leaks then move on if needed to fuel pressure regulator and map sensor.
    Filling this truck with its large capacity dual fuel tanks, based on today's fuel prices may require a small mortgage.

    It needs a new throttle position sensor. My 94 did the same thing. It would idle rough then die.a new one fixed mine

    i bought a 106k mile 1994 f-150 reg cab sb xlt 4x4 5.0 5 speed earlier this year for $3k. i love it and it runs and drives perfect!

    I got a similar 94 xlt for $900 in pa, was a 1 owner truck for its entire life, but got passed around a few times over a year and a half period. Has the nice blue and white two tone paint. It did need an engine hence the owner shuffle until i got it. swapping a 92k mile 4.9 into it right now, has 197k miles on the body and only rust is on the bed fenders

    I'm rebuilding a 92 Flareside 2wd. 5.0 with e4od. Trans was rebuilt and every upgrade done like shift and tail bearing. Mine was a basket case of wiring. Found a very good used and also the engine harness came from ford in Alabama who had it on a shelf new in storage for 100$, unbelievable! No emissions any longer and headman headers. 2 new gas tanks and upgraded and modernized interior. About 6 months to completion and I'll do a video. My est value will be 18k once done. This is a FL truck with 0 rust and 106k on the dash

      Dude I legit rebuilding that exact same truck. Just got the transmission done and probably about to replace a camshaft. I'm super excited to have it done. 5.0 Flairsides are pretty much mustangs in truck form. Cool to know other people are rebuilding it too.

    Wish mine was green. I just like thinking about getting rid of the batch fire injection. I don't know if I will. The E4OD wasn't the best until about 95 and after especially with the later updates. They're far too expensive to rebuild for what I need it for..it would be 17 years before I could dream about getting my money back. A C6 UPGRADE and a longer drive line.. the crossover is actually the same on all the auto trans choices.. you just have to slot out the current slots for the C6. And if you ever wanted to go back to like AOD just use it and use good bolts and washers. I've thought about doing it several ways. Would be easiest to pull the original 302, flip it over, crank kit, new timing set, oil pump, seals..water pump and then remove the intake and replace with a medium rise aluminum and a carb choice. Autolite, Demon, Holley, Edelbrock. Then I've got to work on fueling it like they used to be. I have thought about it, planned them, wrote the plans down.. rejected it and then done nothing for a few years now. This time I'm working on replacing it with an inline. That body style has a lot of pluses. I'm not going to list them all here but it's much better than the truck I'm driving. I'll just drive what I'm driving until it won't go and have a backup or I'll reject it and move on. I like to think... and thank God I'm not living in a state with commie basturds ruining everything and nothing they dream up ever happening. *Top end.. it'll last awhile. When I got it w/311,000? something like 310/311,000 oil was black as coal. I put in Valvoline Maxlife 10w30 blend and it went through a quart every 7-800 miles. Then I put in QS full synthetic 10w30 and it didn't use a quart until 3000 miles. The Mobil 1 HM 10W40 oil ..I might have 50 miles on it in 2 years.. lot's of idling though. I did run Mobil Delvac 15w40 before the transmission quit the high gears and it never used any in 5000 miles. Bottom end is sloppy..mains have been shot since I've had it. I'm just biding time with heavier oil. Might use 15w50 if there's a next time. I've got another complete 92 5.0. Might use it. Might get a donkey and a cart.

    1992 was the first year for those generation Ford F-series pickups & Broncos. They were produced up through 1997 except for the F-150 pickups & Broncos because they were finished in 1996.

    I just scored a 95 F150 with 160 thousand miles it was one owner also and it looks to be in about the same condition, personally knew the family that owned it an I do not have the same documentation that you have but I'm positive that he took good care of it. The only problem is that it sat out side for most of its life and its going to cost a fortune at the car wash, oh it also run pretty rough and it need the shift selector adjusted.

      @leeferraro1532 Před rokem +1

      @Around The County as it turned out, it cleaned right up. I've changed the plugs wires distributor cap , rotor along with the map sensor adjusted the shift linkage and did the shift indicator adjustment also did an oil change and I replaced the oil pressure switch which didn't fix the gauge issue but I'll get that figured out in the future. My next project will be resealing the windshield.

    Those 3 ECM capacitors will kill the fuel pump. Radio shack - but I think their closed. May have the plug wires routed wrong - if wrong they will cross fire.

  • @13yearsaprepperr.jtilbury.51

    Your idle problem is most likely the capacitors in the ECM easy fix they are about 30 cents each there are 3 in there

  • @caseycook6558

    It's the throttle position sensor. Just got an f150 like yours and that's my problem too.

  • @marckemp9955
    @marckemp9955 Před rokem

    I read your back page and you said it's a guzzler. These were not guzzlers. Or let's say compared to what? Mine.. last time it was used as a daily would get 19 mpg at 55 (it's 55 around here) and that's with a lot of miles on it. There's a few things that could cause poor miles and black smoke. I'd check your O2 sensor voltage. I'd check the map sensor, the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, run some techron through the gasoline, and definitely check the TPS.. and pay attention which way the TPS comes off if you replace it. It'll go back a couple ways but only one way is right. I can think of a couple other things but running out of video.

    • @aroundthecounty1139
      @aroundthecounty1139  Před rokem

      That's Fair. Well maintained vehicles will run better than poorly maintained vehicles. Also you can't compare a 90's pickup to a modern Nissan Versa for fuel economy.

    Me living in the southwest all my life I'd probably pay $1,300 mostly because the interior is in such great condition. I'd use the engine, transmission, and wheels. Basically a parts truck for one that is not rusted. Again, I'm biased because we don't really have rust out here.

    Do you have an MAF Mass Air Flow Sensor on your air intake? If so you have to clean this thing. Not only spray a little Carb cleaner down the throat of it, but even more you have to clean the connector. Sand, file, or other wise scratch clean, use a points file, fingernail file, emery board for finger nails, commonly used by the ladies (all cheap) if you don't already own. Now here's the real tip; along with filing the male contacts top & bottom, BE SURE to get into the Female contact and file in there also. Fixed my car and didn't cost a penny.

    • @aroundthecounty1139
      @aroundthecounty1139  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the suggestion. It ended up being a ruptured fuel pressure regulator allowing fuel through the vacuum line into the intake. Also fouling the plugs. I swapped out the regulator and plugs , now it runs great.

    With the body rusted out like, that many miles, and how bad it runs (it runs like shit and I might not even buy it) I'd give you $1200 - That is if I just wanted to drive it and not make it a project truck. With the old man notes I would easily add another $1-2k - putting you up to $2200 or $3200. Any more and you got scammed.

    • @aroundthecounty1139
      @aroundthecounty1139  Před rokem +1

      You are pretty accurate. It's a Canadian truck so the odometer is in kilometers. I paid $1000 for it. I spent $50 to replace the ruptured fuel pressure regulator and another $40 replacing the plugs. That fixed the rough running. I spent about 15 hours cutting, polishing and waxing. sold it for $3400. The guy that bought it, hopped in and drove it 3 hours home.
