    The twelfth episode.
    A series about stuff that creeped me out that can't be covered by Creepy Bad Endings or Creepy Time Limits.
    This time, we're going over one of the scariest sections in any Fire Emblem game.

    Something I forgot to mention in the video. A few turns into the Part Three Endgame, Ena appears on the map as an ally and starts moving across the map towards I have no idea. (Kurthnaga?). She doesn't say anything when she arrives, you can't speak to her, she ultimately serves no purpose. Why is she even there? On my first playthrough, I thought I had to speak to her with someone in particular before too many people in the battle died or I'd get a bad ending. The whole setting made me super-paranoid.

    • @gambledork7154
      @gambledork7154 Před 4 lety +4

      Yeah now that I think about it why is she there?

    • @DeniseJohnson-tr9if
      @DeniseJohnson-tr9if Před 2 lety +4

      @@gambledork7154 My understanding from the plot is that she was trying to reach Kurthnaga and pull him off the battlefield in vain to prevent all seven nations from being directly involved in the conflict. That of course failed as too many soldiers on both sides died along with the building chaos, and the galdr of release had to be used to awaken Yune. So, Ena did show up on the battlefield for that reason. However, the plot ultimately prevented her from completing her mission. Hence why she did very little during the chapter on the map. Short explanation, it was a case of plot uselessness rather than plot armor.

    That's one battle everyone who played it remembers. You know the enemy has good reasons for fighting, and you have no real desire to kill them, yet... if you don't, you'll be the one to die. Just like any other time in a series where you must fight the protagonists of the previous game.

      Sadly, it doesn't stop the NPC armies from slaughtering each other. Also I believe if you hold back long enough Micaiah's army will charge you.
      It's not too often that a player refuses to complete an objective in a game 'because it's wrong'.

    • @WhiteFangofWar
      @WhiteFangofWar Před 7 lety +3

      I haven't played Revelation, but in both the main games Nohr is presented as the 'evil kingdom' even when you are them. This is something feel is a weakness in most FE plots; they all start because one or more figures in power (Ashnard, Garon) is a cartoonishly evil tyrant. Wars have been started IRL for much more complex reasons.

  • @nolfan09
    @nolfan09 Před 7 lety +134

    It definitely has its plot holes and deus ex machine's (such as the blood pact and pretty much everything Micaiah related), but I feel Radiant Dawn does not get the respect it deserves as one of the best FE's out there. Amazing music, unique mechanics not seen in other FE games (like fighting your own units), balancing such a huge case, and to me being the best FE game at making me feel like I was actually in the middle of a huge and expansive war (helped by the awesome cutscenes). Maybe because it wasn't on a handheld and is hard to come by now, but the lack of attention on this game as a classic is a travesty imo.

      nolfan09 Ignoring the plotholes too, there us a lot to like in the story. Interesting characters, amazing worldbuilding and, if a plot point isn't good, then it at least had potential to be interesting (bloodpact). RD gets a lot of hate from the fanbase nowadays for no reason

      Over in America it was one of the most beloved FE games but in Japan it's a whole nother story, the games sold poorly due to the lack of advertisements in the Japanese release of the Tellius series as console gaming in Japan wasn't a big hit as it is in Japan as there wasn't on the handheld like the rest of the fire emblem games. Kinda like Okami, it's popular in reviews but in sales it's a commercial flop. Gameplay wise it wasn't a game for beginners. It's one of those games that if it didn't really happen, then the series would have just died off. The Wii one sold well but not enough to help Fire Emblem in Japan nor in America as PS3 and Xbox still remained dominant until 2014. It got publicity when Ike was announced in Brawl making Radience one of the more sought after but expensive out of the series but second to sell less than Thracia 776. Also Nintendo did release the WII Fire emblem a day after Super Mario Galaxy which also harmed it.

    • @Vanessa_exe
      @Vanessa_exe Před 7 lety +8

      There's also a matter of mistranslation and localisation messing up PoR TBK and the Normal = Hard, Easy = Normal issue
      Still the Tellius duo are my favourite games in the franchise
      Every character has there use and even though like Sophia and Amelia you have that one all around bad unit in Fiona all the other units in the game are both important to use and are balanced around using them all to some degree.
      And I love the concept of biorhythms as poorly done and mostly inconsequential as it is, your soldiers having there highs and lows in the battle makes sense.
      It's also one of the few games where you don't just spam the same 3 units from start to finish to win, you don't have Jill, Nolan or Zihark for Elincias Gambit just as you don't have Haar, Ike and Titania for Micaiahs tough chapters

    I feel the whole death thing in Radiant Dawn is so poignant. It's basically telling you that war is wrong, killing is wrong, and you will create, or worse yet become something horrible the further you go.

    I'm guessing you're not the chairman of the Micaiah fan club?
    I personally don't mind the Dawn Brigade/Daein Army chapters. The Greil Mercenaries are so overpowered that I barely have to put any effort into their chapters, to the point where the first half of Part 3 feels like a chore every time I play. Switching over to a party that doesn't kill everything in two hits makes me put more thought into the battle than just charge forward.
    Then again, I like to train "bad" units in FE for changes of pace. And I've only finished Radiant Dawn on easy mode, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

    With regards to the question of why Ashnard made his father sign a blood pact if Ashnard himself could have been one of the people to die before his family members... maybe Ashnard figured that if he died, then he deserved it because he wasn't "strong enough." Since he didn't and his plan worked, that could also factor in to his confidence that what he's doing is right. Dunno! But hey, he's also quite insane, so there's that XD

    I have to say that I felt pretty much the same like Git. The chills of the alt. base theme at the end of episode 3 of the game, and the unavoidable danger from that fight, I loved the game the first time I played it, and the true ending can only be achieved in a 2nd. playtrough or higher with the use of the clear data AND by doing certain stuff during the 2nd. (or higher) playthrough (some of those is to pick the new 3rd. choice during the Pelleas sacrifice event and use the Dark Knight in episode 1 endgame and other stuff, I can't remember the other conditions but you need to achieve those to get the last playable character and the final flag for the true ending).

    So...IS there a way to do that one mission without increasing the counter, maybe playing defensively and waiting out a number of turns? Also, what does saving the king do, since it's only an option on second+ playthroughs?

    • @borzavrl
      @borzavrl Před 7 lety +1

      Charem the Shadox Playing defensively doesn't do anything, you need to get the counter up to continue and the allied units and enemy units will slaughter each other on their own.
      If you save Pelleas he eventually joins your army as the only real dark magic user in the game and he gets a small bit of story

      @CharemTheShadox Před 7 lety

    • @borzavrl
      @borzavrl Před 7 lety

      Charem the Shadox In hindsight I should have gone into more detail, the way the story happens isn't majorly affected by your choice. If he dies the blood pact is still in effect because the document wasn't destroyed, if he lives Lekain(the senator) ends up fulfilling the requirement that one of the parties dies anyway.
      After the choice to kill him the spotlight moves off Pelleas for the rest of the game and he becomes a relatively minor character with the exception of one chapter where his character arc is basically wrapped up.

    The only explanation I can think of about Ashnard not dying because of the blood pact, is because he was actually not too affliated with the royal family?
    He was so far down in the family tree that the chances of him becoming king before the blood pact was pretty much zero.
    I'd also like to imagine he wasn't the type of person to participate in royal activities, but rather, travel around the continent as a warrior.
    But yeah, I never thought of this issue before this video. I do agree it's pretty questionable!

    • @icelerate8141
      @icelerate8141 Před 7 lety +2

      The Blood Pact affected all Daein citizens so Ashnard should have been included in the clause. Either he got extremely lucky or the blood pact made Ashnard an exception. Or the blood pact may have affected only those loyal to the king and since Ashnard wasn't, he wouldn't be affected.

    Haven't played Radiant Dawn, (darn scalpers), but from this video, it's kind of funny how the plot shares a lot of problems with fates. We have the Blood Pact and Vallah, plot contrivences that weren't thought out well and lead the way to plot holes, and protagonists (Corrin, Micaiah) that the writers expected the players to love a lot more than they actually did. That said it looks like this game did the whole, "two opposing kingdoms with understandable motives" plot a lot better than Fates did.
