    Just a friendly reminder that Nikon can't cannibilise it's cinema camera range because it doesn't have any.
    Their Lens optics are sublime and are virtually without abberations and minimal lens breathing compared to competition and these are also the first iterations.
    Nikon is playing the slow and steady game but if they continue to do so they may find that their equipment offerings to the consumer a cut above the rest.
    It's nice to see how these companies are growing.

    I hope some of those features will come to the Z6III as well. If they manage to give me Z9 AF, a 4k @60 Full Frame and possibly a 2k @120 (just as a bonus), with 10 bit colors, log recording without and external monitor, I will 100% switch back to Nikon. I miss my Z6 so much, and every time I use my a7III I miss it even more..

  • @ElBoyoElectronico

  • @FabledFew
    @FabledFew Před 2 lety +37

    This is huge from Nikon. Internal Prores, and soon internal Prores raw is just too good. I’ve always disliked using external recorders. Man, I am really torn between the Z9 and the R3 right now.

    • @theory8sf
      @theory8sf Před 2 lety +7

      Both cameras are good but now it comes down to the lens and price. Nikon's Z 1.8s glass are just as good as the Canon's L glass! I can't say the same for Canon's 1.8 non L glass but they are affordable! Also the Z9 is price at $5500 compare to Canon R3 @ $6000!

    • @FabledFew
      @FabledFew Před 2 lety +3

      @@theory8sf I own a Z5 and a couple of S lenses. The 50mm f/1.8 S is a top-tier lens. It is one of the sharpest, cleanest, most optically pure lenses I have ever used. I was considering getting a Canon body for video work, given how there are cinema cameras with the RF mount, but the Z9 just threw a wrench in my plan! Now if Nikon would sneak out a cinema camera ...

    • @mirrorlessny
      @mirrorlessny Před 2 lety +2

      huge indeed, speaking of size many ppl will be put off by it, but they should consider if RAW recording is a priority because most cameras need external monitor(+wires/batteries/settings) - Z9 eliminates the need for all that mess

    • @sctm81
      @sctm81 Před 2 lety +1

  • @andrewjones-productions
    @andrewjones-productions Před 2 lety +1

    This is fantastic to see Nikon presenting a very capable and robust camera to the marketplace. Nikon is in a very unique position in that it does not have dedicated cinema or video cameras. It therefore has free reign to jam pack their flagship camera with high end features. Limited only by what the body style and size can allow. I would even like to see them introduce a cinema camera into their lineup. Just one. Although I doubt that will ever realistically happen.

  • @omarknowsphotos

    Incredible move by Nikon. I'm expecting Fuji to do all of this minus maybe internal prores with the X-H2, but even that I wouldn't rule out. Nice to see some real innovation in the mirrorless space for video shooters this year.

    Fantastic camera. As a Z6 II user I am really looking forward to this piece of technology as I mainly shoot video with it. It would be a real game changing feature if they design also ND filters in it or an electronic version of ND filters. The lack of these filters is the only reason for not going fully for these camera's!!! Now on the Z6 II I use standard the Case Clip Filters, also protecting the sensor from dust. These Z camera's are really dust magnets on its sensor. Hope they found a decent solution for that as well?

    Huge z6 for video shooter here - I have found that the electronic VR in the Z6 is a "Virtual Tripod" where any kind of movement is fought aggressively, But the Lens and In Body VR are great for smoothing out Bumps and bonks. So If i Want my Hand held to look like a locked off tripod, I use both stabilization methods. I still use a gimbal if there is any sort of great movement though, and I like the In body VR on in that circumstance.

One aspec that you did not cover is the DYNAMIC range, which is in my top list. I'm really happy to see the video features in this camera. Being a hybrid a hybrid freelancer this would be a great tool to upgrade to from my current Nikon DSLR's (D810+D800). The only feature I wish it had is a digital hotshoe to attatch an XLR-unit for professional internal audio capture (like Sony and Panasonic have had for ages, and now even Canon has).
    For many years now I've been using a Canon cinema camera for video and Nikon DSLR's for stills and I would really appreciate to be able to leave the cinema camera at home more often. I will still need to keep using it as having internal ND-filters and servo zoom lenses are essentual for ENG and documentary work. BUT... Now that Nikon has a really excellent 8K video sensor it would be really cool if they also put it in a cinema camera body with internal ND's and on body XLR-ports. That way I would be able to invest heavily in Z-glass and also use it for my video camera.

    It would be neat to have a camera where you can just shoot 8K video and be able to pull 33 MP stills out of every single frame.
    The only downside is the slow shutter speeds of those frames if you're using a 180° shutter angle.
