I understand Carol and why she called him. A year or so After my divorce I did the same thing. My ex husband did some horrific things while we were married. It was hard on me and our children. I played my part even if my part was holding on too long. I called him to say I forgave him and hoped he would forgive me. Even though he at that time did not apologize ( he did later) I felt such a sense of freedom and a weight lifted. As a believer, the word says to forgive others if you want Gods forgiveness.. it does not say you ever have to let them back into your life. She did it for herself not him. High 5 Carol I get it!

We had children together & I said to him I forgave you for your stupidity years ago is why I was able to enjoy my life. I would have never called him!!! Agreed. I think it's tough to have perspective when your name is mentioned in a tawdry situation like this. I wish Carol had talked to a friend instead of writing that email and kept it in a diary. I agree-the forgiveness is for her. Been there, done that after being traumatized and having a hard time letting something go. The forgiveness helped me. It didn’t change what happened but I was able to stop thinking about the trauma and move on.
