  • As a bonus this week I decided to revisit one of my older videos which really did not make this amazing place justice. This is a tour of the old and scrapped Hellfire Peninsula. It is a zone which got scrapped early in vanilla and was never available to players. Enjoy!

    Every time I see scrapped content from early WoW, I marvel at how ambitious the early developers were.

      @randzopyr1038 Před 9 lety +41

      DrPluton They intended so much for Vanilla - in part because they wanted to cover all of their bases since subscription games didn't have a great track record. It does look a lot like how Outland was portrayed in WCIII, which is also probably why it was going to be in Alpha. I'm glad they made an expansion around it instead.

      Its crazy what they were able to achieve in 5 years of development. Meanwhile what they achieve in 2 year expansions now.... It really feels like maintenance. Bring back the passion!

    • @senbonzakurakageyoshi662
      @senbonzakurakageyoshi662 Před 5 lety +11

      5 years of development have been needed to simply create the whole game, with no patch, no expansion and with full bugs and an online connection manager for internet of the time (battle.net was not existing in this early time), and so then only 4-5 servers were ready to get people.

    For some reason I like the layout of this hellfire better its more random then the final version and it doesn't make sense how things feel symmetrical in final hellfire like how honor hold and thrallmar are pretty much perfectly alligned.

      Developers often reuse as much as they can in order to limit the amount of resources it takes. That changes over time as computers become more powerful and hard drive space gets infinitely larger, but it was an important element in the development of a lot of older games.

    It feels more like Draenor (The Red World) from Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal than Warcraft III: FT Outlands thou. In W3, Hellfire was much more scattered and already composed mostly of flying rocks, while in W2 Draenor was already strongly desolated, yet still lite, with water and enormous mushrooms forests remaining. And that random Silthid hive and troll ruins next to it... kinda unfitting, it is somehow looking like directly copy-paste from Tanaris.

    I much rather have the BC version of Hellfire. This zone has the piercing high natural borders that much of Azeroth has and it makes u feel caged in. Also, troll like ruins and silithid caves were a terrible idea. I feel they did a much better job with the retail version as it was so much more inducing an idea of entering an entirely new world. Great job on this video tho Hayven, love your stuff.

    would the ogre empire be possible for you to explore, or that a no go? I know you can see some kind of land mass at the bottom of the draenor map that from what I understand is it. think it would be cool to see since I have a feeling we wont see it. still love seeing your vids they are awesome!

    • @CtrlAltDlt68
      @CtrlAltDlt68 Před 9 lety +2

      Sylvanas WindRunner I don't think they ever actually implemented any sort of land mass for the Ogre continent. It was drawn on the map yes, but they never really put in any actual land for the continent in alpha/beta. They did however at one point put in land for Farahlon, and even had an alliance naval base with an ICC-style citadel slapped into the middle of the landmass, but it was removed right around the time they took the Iron Docks and moved them from the eastern portion of Gorgrond to the North. That was also when they decided to take out the rail network that ran all across northern Gorgrond. The Grimrail Depot 5man just feels out of place after they removed the railroad, as you can't see any sort of rail network anywhere you go in Gorgrond.

      Sylvanas WindRunner That land mass at the bottom of draenor is exactly just mass of land. There is totally nothing there. It's just a flat, brown rectangle. You can easily go there by yourself. Just use aviana's feather on a hill in southeastern end of shadowmoon and reach it before fatigue kills you.

      DaDude1987b yeah, no, this one is messy, environment has textures of blasted lands and its color/texture doesn't fit the architecture style at all.

    Hi. Thanks for giving us this bizarre looks of the World of Warcraft. It leads me every time to the question: "why they put content or "stuff" in the live game? why not just delete?" *g*
    Although your videos are made on private server, the "outland test area" or the undone Naxxramas were exploited on live servers, too. :) Anyway: i love your videos and subscribed your channel. Best, Freakyboss

    it looks like they wanted to create it as a raid and then they decided it to do expansion instead.

    That troll ruins and slithid cave... was it supposed to be... definitely not Azuremyst or Quel'Thalas. Maybe early AQ? Or Uldum, perhaps? There is an unfinished quest there in classic WOW

    I see elements of Zangarmarsh in there (minus the gloom).

    Silithid cave and a serpent ruins? Early ideas about Zangarmarsh, I guess.

    Those floating trees...were they standing atop... giant apexis crystals? Apexis trees? In old Hellfire ,which was made years ago, Draenor's Tanaan Jungle, the mother of apexis crystals ? Coincidence? Or destiny?

    It looks better, altought obviously not finished. TBC hellfire peninsula is too barren. its similar for Durotar in WoW too. Remains of the Pitlord are more realisticly sized too, TBC ones are just stupidly huge for sake of it.

    Is this a later version of pre-TBC Outland? It's just watching other videos I remember the Dark Portal resembling the one in Azeroth pre-TBC and other changes

      Dabbo100 No. Sadly many people don't know this, but actually in original wow beta (2003-2004) they wanted to put hellfire peninsula as level 58-60 zone.
      That would have been the here shown zone.
      Later they decided to include more into Silithus and eastern plaguelands instead and put this zone here under Deathmines.
      Then with TBC they redesigned hellfire peninsula and we never actually should see this version.
      Some beta players maybe know the zone, but I think it was never filled with npcs if I remember correctly.

    Thnx for video but it looks like an area dumped full of different zone biology and geology. Like a test area for different models etc.
