  • Valvetrain Engineer & Group Manager Billy Godbold talks about turbo cams in this latest tech video. While every turbo engine combination is unique, there are some general rules that apply to a camshaft grind designed to work with a turbo. For cam grind recommendations for your turbocharged engine give us a call at 1-800-999-0853.

    Isn't every cam a turbo cam ?

    • @AmritGrewal31
      @AmritGrewal31 Před 2 lety

      Yes and no.
      Turbos increase pressure, density and temperature of the intake air, and hence changing viscosity. Therefore, to accommodate for new flow characteristics, you can optimise the cams

    This might sound a bit stupid. But what could happen if you created a sub pump fan in the exhaust creating a vacuum sucking effect. Wouldnt that lower optimize the pressure in the cylinder head?

      Why would comp cams recommend a btr cam?

    I have turbo comp cams in my motor I just recently purchased. I was wondering if that would be an Issue since I'm running a paxton novi supercharger? Would I lose power?

    • @mikeeagle2653
      @mikeeagle2653 Před 4 lety

      Yes supercharger cams are definitely different and you will lose hp with the wrong cam

    Is it possible to run the turbo cam n/a for a while without boost?

    • @Compcams1976
      @Compcams1976  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes it is! While it will not be the best NA cam, you will still pick up decent power over stock.

    • @jspilly82
      @jspilly82 Před 4 lety

      yes otherwise it wouldnt start up without the turbo spinning fast enough to create inlet pressure.
      think about it like this. When you car is idling and when its coming up in revs the turbo is not really playing any role on how the engines combustion process happens. the turbo wheels are slightly restrictive to the inlet and exhaust flow but the engine is basically naturally aspirated until exhaust gases are flowing through the turbine wheel fast enough to spin the compressor side of the turbo up to a speed (spools) that it creates positive inlet pressure (boost).
      the waste gate opening decreases the exhaust turbine speed slowing the compressor wheel speed and
      the bov opening also decreases boost also creating a similar situation to a naturally aspirated engine.
      so probably a big technical explanation for a simple YES answer but i hope this helps you understand a turbo engine always runs naturally aspirated some of the time.
