      FYI I have two Dynam PT-17's (they were on-sale for like $180 late last year). One, just like your Spitfire, the tail wheel collet was not drilled out. NOT.AN.EASY.FIX. Grayson sent me a replacement collet kit. Guess what? Replacement kit (sealed in Dynam bag) also not drilled out. I'd bet the collet is the same part across a few models, like your Spit for one. I had to cut the tail of PT-17 off about 1.5-2" to start repair, but like I said, the replacement not drilled. I have a carbide bit, but no drill press, so it is difficult-to-impossible to get a perfectly drilled hole. I'm ok with minor fixes, especially at Dynam price point. But this seemed a little much - especially having to cut the airframe on a new plane. I left if for now. Hoping Grayson would come through with a proper replacement. So far, no. So the other PT-17 - like you, I also programmed an AR637T for SAFE/AS3X. I was satisfied with the result compared to out-of-the-box SAFE/AS3X. And not having done it before, I read a lot. And then read some more. And after that, I read some more. So with that, out for a maiden, I am a novice and nervous flyer, so up, a couple of patterns, quick SAFE on/off and back down. Minor ground loop on landing, almost completely stopped (wheels hit divot) so no damage, but heavy fake radial engine is loose now. I suspected that would happen, based on how it was mounted. First tail dragger. Flies "graceful" I would say. Field I fly is not optimum. Multi use sports field full of divots and what not. I'm comfortable on STS Apprentice, and oddly Twin Otter. Few others in the hangar, but I need a few more months under my belt (and nice weather) before I take those or PT-17 out again. Crashes will happen, just don't want unnecessary crashes for getting ahead of my skis!... Great channel! Great team!

    The Supermarine Spitfire is such an iconic warbird. Many Canadians flew Spitfires during World War II with the No. 1 RCAF Squadron and the 242 Canadian Squadron, as well as among more mixed Commonwealth squadrons. A number of Americans defying the US's neutrality before Pearl Harbor flew with the RAF as well. So when you fly a Spitfire, you honour the brave pilots who flew them from both of our countries to battle fascism. And not just men! Many women pilots were part of the Air Transport Auxiliary that flew planes, including Spitfires, from their assembly plants to various airfields in England.

    All warbirds with the tail wheel have that nasty left pull because of the motor torque. More right rudder and ease into it. Easier said than done. I always struggle with it too after flying my edf’s for a while. That twitch sound is AS3X though, SAFE is just an auto level feature that levels the plane. I would recommend putting these on a 3 position switch. Safe and AS3X on 1, AS3X on 2, and everything off on 3. I set all my planes up this way so my son can learn to fly them as well.

    I've got 4 BNF warbirds and I use a CC3d in each of them and "SAFE" mode is always enabled until I get comfortable with the plane or whenever I want an easy flight with a warbird that acts like a trainer. I'm sure there are more sophisticated options than my cheap CC3d FCs but I know how to tweak them for my needs so I feel a lot safer with them. I just know what to expect. However I also have 2 planes that came with Spektrum radios with SAFE and I have no complaints.

    I've got a Phoenix Models' Spitfire Mk.II. I've got it "built", and the retracts installed. Still need to put on the motor and get everything balanced and trimmed. The retracts on yours look MUCH better. I don't know I'll ever get these working correctly. Good flight. Spit's are hard for ground handling because of that gear config (so close to the fuselage). It was even CLOSER on the full scale. I could hear the anxiousness in Abby's voice during that first flight

  • @andycraig8610
    @andycraig8610 Před 3 lety

    Hi, andy in UK.
    Just my own opinion, but I have been flying for about two years and have several dynam planes and several war birds. Firstly I have nothing against dynam. I love the dynam waco, stearman and geebee, but the dynam spitfire was my first warbird. It was also my worst. I have the durafly seafire (spitfire in blue colour scheme), avios spitfire and arrows corsair. They all have a very positive feel, but i find the dynam spitfire very floaty and underpowered. To make it fly in a stable configuration you need to put the cog right at the furthest forward recommended, which makes it very prone to nose overs. If you don't it feels very tail heavy.
    Just my opinion , but hey everyone has one.

    I've been flying Tactic radios for the entire 3+ years I've been in the hobby, but recently put one of the new Spektrum NX8 transmitters on pre-order. I'm happy with my Tactic system, but the available options on new Tactic transmitters and receivers has been shrinking, leading me to suspect that Horizon may be working to phase out the Tactic line. It'll be a learning curve equipping a plane with the Spektrum system, but it will open up new options for my flying. The newest warbird in my hangar, is the FT Mini Zero, which had its Maiden and second flights last weekend. She flew beautifully right off the bat.

    Nice Maiden,
    I bet the tail gear alllen screw was deep in the tail gear mount shaft. I had that issue. I was able to loosen the allen screw and get the tail gear in. I am finishing up the airplane now. For safe I am using a Reflex V3. The plan is to just use safe for take off and landing. The 40amp ESC should work well with a 4s 2000 battery.,
    For a Dynam airplane I have to say all the pieces fit together and screw holes lined up fine. I'm using some loctite blue on the surface control nuts. I'll post the maiden on my channel and post it here. I am using a Reflex V3 and a Lemon 7 channel receiver. I figured if the maiden goes well I will take the time to apply the decals. Do you have any tips on the control throws / rates ?

      Get the RealFlight 9.5 (RF 9.5) simulator and fly some of the Horizon Hobby planes in the simulator like the Apprentice, Aeroscout, etc. Start flying in SAFE mode and after you master take offs and landings, progress to INTERMEDIATE mode and then finally to AS3X (Expert) mode. Then buy either the Apprentice RTF or BNF or the Aeroscout RTF and go to an RC flying field.
      Have one of the nice guys there help you with checking everything on the plane and either take the plane up for you and trim it OR "buddy box" with you so that you can fly with him at the same time. Then, just about GUARRANTEED, you will become a member of the "RC FLYING" Club.....FYI - Jesse Dusa - Aerobatic RC Pilot Champion practices on RF 9.5 EVERY other day and I practice maneuvers on RF 9.5 myself 😉👍

      @@TheRcSaylors ya I'm itching to get out on the field. Almost every weekend we been getting hit with snow. I actually have a quick question about pnp. Can you use any reciever with any brand? I was looking at spektrum, some receivers have different ports. (I've only ever flown bnf)

    • @TheRcSaylors
      @TheRcSaylors  Před 3 lety

      Not all transmitters will work with all recuevers, but PNP usually means it needs a receiver and a battery. The one we have linked is that way. Always be cautious though because some companies refer PNP as needing ALL electronics, including servos, motor, ESC.. So just double check the requirements area on any plane before clicking purchase. Hope this helps!

    It just didn't ever seem to have that locked-in look, like it was tail heavy. Very pitchy. 1800 MaH battery? should be more like a 2200 or even a 2600. Could be the problem. Check your CG.

    Given that you are using a smaller battery than recommended it is quite likely that the plane is tail heavy. Did you check the CG? That could be why you had to add so much down trim.
